The Second Life Kismetomatic aligned this weekend with Kunglers releasing a top that was clearly destined to be worn with the newest pantsuit released by Baistice. Could those colors be more perfect? The Kunglers top is just the merest hint darker. It’s one of the things about Second Life that just makes me smile.

There was this three-sheep pileup
How did this happen? Should I call 911? I know tornadoes do strange and mysterious things, but I don’t see any other storm damage at Empress & Hierophant, but wandering the hills I came upon a three-sheep pileup and stopped to help. However, the sheep seemed immovable and I eventually left them there – stacked and waiting for rescue from someone with proper perms.

Money Can't Buy You Class
One of my favorite people from my childhood was the local piano and music teacher who gave lessons in her home. She had the unfortunate name of Mrs. Hole. Such was the esteem in which she was held that no one would ever think to make fun of her name. In fact, that aura of class and dignity was so integral to her being was strong enough that the unfortunate quality of her name never occurred to me until it was pointed out by a friend recently. I mentioned her fondly to a friend who remarked on her name and even with that prompting, it took me awhile to see the humor.
That is class – having an aura of dignity that outlasts death by decades. I was reminded of her by this dress from Silver Rose Designs for Vintage Fair. I am sure that Mrs. Hole had articles of clothing that were not made of silk and crepe de chine and not embellished with embroidery, beads and sheer layers of tulle, but I cannot remember any. She always dressed for teaching as though for a performance, it seemed. She gave it majesty. Of course, her students were required to wear dress pants if they were boys and dresses if they were girls, as well. She thought music mattered and she honored it with her formality and respect. I didn’t take lessons from her myself, but she was a good friend of my mother’s and I spent a lot of time with her and she taught me embroidery. Mrs. Hole would wear this dress. She would delight in the sheer bodice overlay and the many rows of beading and the fitted, tailored elegance of it. She was a rather large woman, but she never fell for the trap of wearing clothing that was loose and large. She wore tailored, well-fitted clothing that made her always the best-dressed woman in town
She was not a rich woman – no widowed woman supporting herself by teaching a few hours of music everyday is going to be. Her clothes were old and from another era and were carefully and vigilantly maintained. But she had class. When I think of her in contrast to the so-called Countess who wrote the song with the title Money Can’t Buy You Class, the truth of the title is more self-evident than the Countess could ever imagine. Despite her wealth, the Countess is as déclassé as they come. I kind of wrote her off when she was all atwitter that another housewife asked someone about plastic surgery, insisting that gossiping behind each other’s backs is so much more polite. Anyway, with all her money and privilege, more than one person has joked about her name and title, at her expense. She does not project that aura of majesty and dignity that my small-town music teacher did. If anything, she projects an odd mix of contempt mixed with anxiety – as though she knows she is a fraud, but thinks a veneer of condescension will obscure her failings.
1962 and 52 Years of Music
It’s 1962 at The Velvet tonight. Velvet Musicologist Maht Wuyts has set off on a year-long revue of the last half-century of music from 1960 to 2012. Every Wednesday evening from 7 to 9 SLT, Velveteers will travel through time. I had a blast at 1961 and wanted to let you all know about this fun and exciting dance trip through the history of rock music. 1962 was a momentous year in fashion and in society. The body-conscious, figure-hugging silhouette with the tight sleeves and the hem just below the knee was still popular but by the fall was being replaced with A-line dress and high and relatively loose waistlines. Marine blue was a hot color in the fall and prints often combined one bold color with black and white making this dress from Sonatta Morales seem a perfect fit. Gloves and hats were still part of the costume de riguer though hats were becoming less fantastical than in the past.

A House at EverSea – Accessory Fair
EverSea is a wonderful sim created by Grace Loudon who has built some amazing sims including Steiglitz for Fashion For Life, Rivet Town and of course, EverSea and EverWind. I poked about one of the houses for rent and if I were in the market for an historic home from the pre-industrial era, I would definitely look there. It sure is a fun place to take pictures – such as these shots of some new releases for Accessory Fair and a dress from L’Abel.

Back to the Jersey Shore
The Jersey Shore is such a fun sim, I had to run back for some more shots. As you can see, I am standing by The Hammer on the Midway – waiting for some guy to come along and impress me. Sadly, the sim was noticeably man-free that day. I guess I will have to hit the Hammer myself. So long as I don’t get any grease on my summer white little skirt from Whippet & Buck. It’s amazing how filthy those hammers get when they aren’t hitting anything other than the game.

Honestly, the Duck Hunt is more my speed. I always liked the Duck Hunt even though I understood the game was rigged and there might not even be one winning duck in the mix. That doesn’t matter when I have such winning shoes as these square-toed shoes from G. Field. With a touch script to change the trim and to turn off the version 1 invisiprims, these shoes are style and inventory win!

Mechanical Toy Factory
I love it when folks send me a landmark for a new place to explore. Sissy Pessoa of Baiastice knows my love of exploring since I frequently offer to TP her to see this or that place I want to show off. The other night she sent me a LM, and before I even got to exploring, I found this little alcove in front of the Mechanical Toy Factory store. I got so engrossed in shooting pictures, I forgot to go into the store until the next time I logged in.

The dress is a silver leather dress from Pequ with gorgeous zipper piping to add visual interest.

52 Weeks of Color – Plum
I don’t know about you, but my first impulse when I put on a sleek and silky dress is to rush right out in the snow for picture-taking. I am not alone in this as you know if you, like me, enjoy looking at all the pictures from other bloggers.
When I put on this gorgeous plum colored gown from Donna Flora, I immediately had to ask the seals at the lovely Winter Solstice sim what they thought of the riotous roses on the sleeves and shoulders. They approved.

Cecilia
Cecilia, you’re breaking my heart
You’re shaking my confidence daily
Oh, Cecilia, I’m down on my knees
I’m begging you please to come home
The heartless Cecelia of Simon & Garfunkel’s lyrics could get away with running off with other men because she was so fascinating. If she were wearing the Cecilia gown from Azul, that would not hurt either. In this photo, I ran off to the Old Abbey at The Looking Glass – a gorgeous sim from Marcus Inkpen that is a delight to explore.

Guest Stylist Trixie Bumbo
Trixie Bumbo gamely volunteered for a shoot as guest stylist last weekend. I asked her to share a comment about her outfit and she said, “When Cajsa and Gidge asked me to be a guest stylist I must have tried about a thousand outfit combinations trying to find something that felt right. Finally I gave up and went with my “go to” outfit. I love the soft, warm textures, graceful lines and subtle sexiness of this dress. It goes almost anywhere – it always works.” The dress is called Desiree and is from Kunglers.
Something about it made me think of classical togas – even though it is a collared shirtwaist – so I decided to shoot it at the ruins at The Looking Glass. While exploring after the shoot, I discovered that the ruins are a set piece that you can purchase there on the sim.
