Shape Up for the New Year

“A Novel, in the end, is a container, a shape into which you are trying to pour your story into.”
~Helen Dunmore

I do admit I was very resistant to getting a new shape last year because I’d had mine forever and I love it and it was MEEEE and yadda yadda yadda.

But then, I tried on my shape made by Hybie of Savoir Faire (and our newest contributor here at IOF) and I fell in love. It’s amazing what a difference a shape made by someone with a brilliant eye for proportion and a great fashion sense can make. Continue reading

Merry Christmas Alicia Chenaux

Alicia Chenaux_003

I met Alicia Chenaux on Plurk, though I had read her blog for a long time before that. I should say blogs since she has a fun journaling blog where she chronicles her Second Life adventures as well as her fashion blog. I first began paying attention to her blog when she began her 365 Project which was such a huge commitment. I don’t know if I would commit to blog for a full year even after blogging for four years. For me, it’s so much easier to do something than to say I will do something, because then I really have to. I admire people who have the will to make that kind of commitment up front. I also admire the kind of openness and vulnerability that journaling blogs require. It, too, requires a commitment beyond what I would do.

I was looking forward to seeing Alicia’s outfit because she’s a former model and I knew that work history would translate into an impeccable outfit that was perfectly fitted. And I was right from every Elikatira hair on her head to the GField shoes on her feet, everything is perfectly fitted. Her outfit seemed perfect for sightseeing and wandering the streets in the fashionable city of Venice which you can find on the Prada sim. I could see her modeling skills at work as she positioned herself on the dock by the gondolas while I was flailing around in the river after falling off the dock a few times. In fact, I had to run inside one of the stores and dry off while she patiently waited.

Merry Christmas, Reverie!

reverie_009

Reverie Boucher is a blog reader whom I met when she im’ed me with some good suggestions for outfits I might like to blog and introduced me to a store she liked in Second Life. Since then we have become friends and I have come to appreciate her suggestions as she has a great style of her own. Like me, she is happy to mix and match and showed that it todays’s outfit, taking the top of one dress from Baiastice and mixing it with a skirt to great effect.

The bold black lace and silver lines in this outfit made me want to shoot in China, though that alpha-ridden environment holds challenges for photos, but eventually everything was under control. Especially after she put on these hot shoes from N-Core!

Hey, Everybody, Have You Heard?

nov12_002

I bet you thought I was going to mention Vintage Fair, didn’t you? Well, you are mostly right, but there is that old traditional song that has been revitalized and covered by everyone and their sister. Unfortunately, I don’t think there’s anyone “gonna buy me a diamond ring” right soon, so turn that soundtrack down in the back. Yes, I admit it, I am going to slather and drool all over the Vintage Fair, but I think that’s okay, I slather and drool over vintage all the time and this is the first exposition of vintage designs I can recall. One of the wonders I found at the Fair is this sweet and lovely day dress from Paper Doll. Yellow is such a tricky color, but I do love this pale lemon that is just about the shade of washed butter or shaved lemon ice. It’s such a delectable color it makes me think of yummy foods, I notice. I will confess that my avatar build is not even close to the build this dress was made for, but it’s modifiable and with plenty of stretching I finally got it big enough to go around my waist. As you can see, once fitted, it looks good in many positions.

Vintage Fair: Featuring Donna Flora, Curio and Me

Donna Flora brings us a gorgeous cocktail dress with a dramatic deco inspired collar. It was only natural to pull out the gorgeous shoes from MiaMai which clearly are designed with the same nod to the classic lines of the modern Deco movement. Continue reading

The Sky in a Bottle

nov05_019

This is the 4th and last of the Bit of.. necklaces at Balderdash that pay homage to the elements, earth, fire, water and air. This last one reminds me of a song that always makes my sister get quite weepy.

If I could save time in a bottle
The first thing that I’d like to do
Is to save every day ’til eternity passes away
Just to spend them with you

If I could make days last forever
If words could make wishes come true
I’d save every day like a treasure and then
Again, I would spend them with you

But there never seems to be enough time
To do the things you want to do once you find them
I’ve looked around enough to know
That you’re the one I want to go through time with.

It is a wistful song and there is a wistful thread to these bits of elements – a sense of collection for remembrance as well as for any mystical properties of protection or power.

The Five Oceans in a Bottle

nov05_002

Down she came and found a boat
Beneath a willow left afloat,
And around about the prow she wrote
The Lady of Shalott

When I saw the Shallot pose boat at Balderdash I had to jump in and take it for a test spin. Thankfully, I got out safe and sound. I was running around the water at Oubliette looking for a good place to shoot this great mesh dress from DCNY. The boat is nice and will suffice.

I am wearing the third of the Elements necklaces from Balderdash. This one is called Bit of Water – but really, we know it the seven seas and the five oceans captured in a little bottle of magic.

The Sun & Stars in a Bottle

nov04_006

Saigye Lotus didn’t just put the world in a bottle with the necklace I highlighted yesterday. She gathered the sun and stars and bottled up their fire as well. This is another necklace with the amazing detail anyone with a passing acquaintance with Balderdash jewelry has come to expect. I am wearing it with a lovely striped sweater from Baiastice.

nov04_004

It’s a bit chilly, though, and luckily Baiastice released a poncho just this week. I tossed it on over my sweater and I am as snug as a bug in a rug. Probably more snug, since bugs in rugs can still get stepped on or zapped by insecticides.
