It's Raining, It's Pouring

The Old Man Is Snoring!

It’s a bit chilly today with the rain and the wind, so I decided to wear something toasty. The lovely fur jacket from COCO is just the thing. Adding the high-waisted tuxedo pants which are a nice wind-resisting wool will keep me comfy and still chic.

We Seek the Dark Tower, Thankee Sai

posted by Gidge Uriza

Baiastice’s new release of the CAGE TOP was an on the fly inspiration to do a shoot together and Cajsa knew just the place to go – IMMERSIVA.

To me it was extremely GUNSLINGERISH – and I kept expecting Roland and company to come rolling through chasing the Man in Black.  Well – like UltraModern Gunslinger – just as parts of the book are quite anachronistic, the sim reeks of both primitive and ultramodern tones. It is, not to put too fine a point on it – extraordinary.

With bold and futuristic design this top has two options, one modest – as we’re wearing so you can’t see ALL of our goodies, and one NOT so modest, with your goodies on full display. We’ve also added Baiastice’s LEATHER RIDE pants because if we’re going to chase the Man in Black – we need sensible pants. Continue reading

The Future Is Now & Then

Those physicists who employ the chronology protection conjecture to assert that one cannot travel in time have never been in Second Life where one can travel from Stonehenge to Ancient Greece to newly imagined cyber-futures in mere seconds. That such travel is restricted to the digital world at the moment is merely a factor of our technological limitations, but our imagination has no such limitation. Imagination was set free for the Rezzable® event @ Greenies Home. Called The Future Is Now, it features the fashion imagination of some of Second Life’s most well known and most experimental designers.

Event organizer Winter Jefferson gifted me with one of the lovely gowns from the collection by a designer who foresees a future that still has time and space for romance and frills. From Bliss Couture, the futuristic Xennah gown is an exuberant homage to romantic finery which inspired me to do some time traveling back to the ancient ruins of Stonehenge on the CAM1 sim.

Ok I Admit It,I'm a Cybertease

What are YOU gonna do about it – anyway?

🙂

This gorgeous dress is from one of my favorite designers, one on the short list of places I’d always shop no matter what – Indyra Originals. This and many other amazing pieces were shown today at the 2010 THE FUTURE IS NOW show at the Greenies Home.

What is brilliant about cyberfashion vs. RL fashion is that while watching RL experimental fashion design we can all say “That’s cool, too bad no one could actually WEAR it anywhere” and in our little pixel world – we can simply wear it where ever we like.

Such as this piece, which I suspect I might not take off any time soon. I think it should have a weapon. Or Two.

This dress makes such a powerful statement, I feel like I’m about to seduce someone – or kick their ass. Or both. I’m not sure which one would come first.

Style Notes:

**Bold R Indicates a Review Item**

  • Shape – Gidge Custom Shape by Hatchy Mills
  • Skin – KA  Skins – Bardot – Sally Sunkissed R

I bet you thought I could only style Barbie Dolls – didn’t you Fucker?

Monster Jackets

There are some statement jackets in Modern Gypsy’s Fashion Monster collection. For example, this jacket from the Zhora pants outfit is an amazing piece of construction with shoulders that could conquer the universe if they set themselves to the task. Coincidentally, Newreem Waffles styled the same two jackets in her blog today, too – in a very different way, demonstrating how versatile these jackets are.

The jacket that comes with the powerful Hecate leather dress makes and equally strong statement – one of surprise and delight at seeing such a jacket chosen for such a noir dress. After all, when you hear black leather dress, a houndstooth wool jacket is not what pops into mind, but then Hecate is a dress of surprises.

Rainy Days Are A-Bomb

posted by Gidge Uriza

I shot this a few days ago, when it was still about 12 degrees in the Atlanta Metro.  At that time, I couldn’t fathom when I was going to be feeling rainy but here we are this morning with rain pouring down and it’s the perfect time to pull on a cableknit and these Wellies from A-Bomb. Tain't What You Do

Tain’t what you do, it’s the way that you do it.
Tain’t what you do, it’s the way that you do it.

Tain’t what you do, it’s the way that you do it.
That’s what gets results!

We would all benefit if we took this song to heart, wouldn’t we? I think when you look at Sissy Pessoa, you can see she has. I have been enjoying her designs since 2007 and have loved watching her learn new skills and expand her line. When I first started shopping at Baiastice, she made beautiful clothing. Then she made some purses and sunglasses. She was prolific and you had to hop all over the grid to her different stores to see her entire output. Then she finally got a sim and you could see everything in one place – and she started making shoes. Amazing shoes! And then she started to make skins – and always, getting better. Her clothing also got stronger and better as she began to experiment with sculpts and new shapes. She has never rested on her laurels and has yet to plateau. You can see that constant striving in this gorgeous gown and her lovely new skin line – Casting.

Fierce Fashion

Maleficent from the Fashion Monster Collection by Micah Kanto for Modern Gypsy

I know I have been featuring a lot of Modern Gypsy lately, but I think it’s clear by now that we are guided more by our tastes and whims than anything else. I love fashion that is fierce and uncompromising – that takes risks, that is sometimes outlandish. I love the avant garde, design that pushes the boundaries of form and function, but not the boundaries of taste.

PAndora from the Fashion Monster Collection by Micah Kanto for Modern Gypsy

Modern Gypsy is all that. Micah makes beautiful gowns and dresses. However, some of Micah’s collection is more than clothing, some are sculptures. You can see that quite clearly in these two very stylized pieces.

I Used To Rule The World…..

posted by Gidge Uriza

…..seas would RISE when I gave the word……

I know, lotsa fashionistas have blogged this dress. But it’s totally festive and I wanted to wear it too. I just had this whole pirate thing going on the second I saw it. So I went exploring and found this nutty build of pirate ships. And a guy apparently role playing a hanged man behind me. (Yeah that’s a person not a part of build). Continue reading

Shape, Shape, Shape Your Bootie

I don’ t know if any of you have been watching Bravo’s Launch My Line, but I have. It’s been enjoyable, but Dan and Dean are no Tim Gunn and they don’t offer advice at all, just eye rolls and jaw drops. They fall between the genuine mentorship of Gunn and the rude bitchiness of Mizrahi in that miserable Fashion Show, but really, what’s wrong with being helpful and supportive? Now that I began with an off-topic tangent, let get back to the point. Recently Vanessa was dropped when she added some pockets to accentuate the hips. It was probably her most commercial dress of the competitioion, so the lesson she learned was if you listen to the judges and take their advice you get axed.  The judges said no woman ever wants to accentuate her hips. Well, that’s just wrong!!! And to prove it, look at how luscious this dress looks. You just have to do it right. Micah Kanto knows how to do it right.
