About Cajsa Lilliehook

Santino Rice's little ditty "It's only fashion" seems a perfect title for my little fashion blog as you and i know that fashion means the world to him. Co-founder of It's Only Fashion and Blogging Second Life.

Anatomy of a Blog Post

I don’t know about other bloggers, but for me, the final outfit that I blog is often different from where I begin. That sure is true of this one. I really wanted to do a festive getting in the Christmas spirit sort of outfit, but not with a Christmas Tree Sweater or a Snowman Dress, but with combining the colors of the season. I started out with a pair of green pants – however, they were too low cut for me and showed more butt crack than could be covered by this sweater. I suppose I could have put a bodysuit under, but I really like this sweater with it’s subtle argyle pattern – so I decided to try other options – including contrasting the argyle pattern with some tartan tights I had in my inventory. Showing off the tights meant wearing shorts or a skirt, so I started trying on skirts. Perhaps 6 or so would have worked, but they were a bit too dark or they had this that or the other little issue that I quibbled with, so off I went in search of a green skirt.

The Best Event of the Day

Sixteen hours down and ten to go! A record in SL DJing is being set today with a 26.2 hours single set by a single DJ. I know it’s a crazy idea, but it’s for a good cause, building the bottom up economy of Uganda by providing cows and goats to poor households who will, in turn, pass on the offspring to additional households. It’s the Uganda Umbrella Project of Heifer International.

Maht Wuyts is my favorite DJ and he’s playing at my favorite club, The Velvet. He plays a great mix of indie and rock music – danceable and fun and he puts together a witty playlist.

The event has several sponsors who have provided lovely gifts for all donors. In the spirit of the project, Shiryu Musashi of Musashi-Do has made a polo shirt inspired by the Uganda flag and Adelaide Ade has made everything the Heifer beekeeper would need, including the bee’s nest. The gifts are fun and eclectic – just like the music set. The largest donor also gets a free photo session with Maht Wuyts, co-founder of MDR Photo Studio.

Chicly Shiki

There are lots of good reasons to enjoy Shiki Designs clothing, but my number one reason is designer Shinichi Mathy’s bold use of prints and uninhibited mixing of patterns. Like Ulli from Project Runway, Shinichi can blend bold colors and patterns flawlessly and isn’t afraid to do so. While this dress has a more subdued color palette, the patterns are bold and work perfectly.

Blue Ice

One of the places I most want to visit is Antarctica. There are lots of reasons, fascination with Scott’s doomed expedition and the heroic self-rescue of Shackleton’s expedition are a major part of it. You can see the Scott expedition versus the Amundsend expedition as the conflict between romanticism and modernity writ small. There’s such great literature of the expeditions – from the harrowing personal narratives of  Byrd’s Alone, Cherry-Garrad’s Worst Journey in the World and Shackleton’s South to the wonderful fiction like Antarctic Navigation and the current travel writing and scientific books such as The Crystal Desert. I am certain I have read the vast majority of books about Antarctica – it has such a strong fascination for me.  So far, my Antarctic adventures have been solely armchair traveling, but there’s one phenomenon of that frigid continent that can only be seen and experienced in person – the amazing blue ice which is pure ice from pure water. The purer the water, the bluer the ice. I have seen photos and it’s so beautiful it makes your heart hurt. For me, there are few things more beautiful or entrancing.

So when I say that this lovely gown from Sascha’s Designs by Saschi Frangelli makes me think of blue ice,  it’s because I think it’s incredibly beautiful. The delicate silver tracery makes it sparkle like the ice in the light – and the intense blue with that lovely tracery is entrancing. I particularly love the three bands on the back to give it visual interest.

Tropicalia

I love that the fabric in this lovely blouse from Kunglers is called Tropicalia, I assume after the Brazilian music movement that incorporated the sounds and rhythms of Brazil with the psychodelic rock of the United States, most notably the music of Jimi Hendrix.  It’s a small reminder of the power of music – so powerful that the Tropicalistas were actually imprisoned for their music. You can read a little about the movement and list to a couple samples here.  The actual design of the blouse is quite sweet, with short puff sleeves finished with ribbon bows and a gentle ruffle around the collar. I paired its softness with the much more structured highwaist skirt from Maitreya that gives the traditional pencil skirt a new contemporary form.

Will it go round in circles

I’ve got a song, I ain’t got no melody
I’ma gonna sing it to my friends
I’ve got a song, I ain’t got no melody
I’ ma gonna sing it to my friends

Will it go round in circles
Will it fly high like a bird up in the sky
Will it go round in circles
Will it fly high like a bird up in the sky

I love the fun dotted fabric in this playful Beetlebones dress and could not resist playing with the dot motif to the nth degree by pulling in the target tights from Veschi and even a circle in circle jewelry set from lucas lameth.

Belleza y Moda

Belleza y Moda! Beauty and Fashion! Love of beauty and fashion energizes much of the passion of Second Life creators, bloggers and fashionistas. It is what sends skin creators back to their tablets to develop ever more beautiful skins. It’s what motivates creators to play with sculpts and textures to find new forms and to explore to the fullest what SL fashion can be.

Today I am wearing some of the boldest explorers who most fully realize and expand the boundaries of SL beauty and fashion. From MiaMai whose textures are stunning, to Mimikri who knows no bounds in finding new ways to form and shape clothing. From Stiletto Moody who has been at the vanguard of SL footwear development, to Truth whose energetic and playful explorations of hair sculpts send weekly tremors across the grid and finally, to Belleza whose stunning skins are at the apex of SL skin creation.

Creator, Preserver & Destroyer

Annyka Bekkers just does the most stunning work. So stunning, she actually got me into a shirt with a picture on it. I love prints and all, but abstract and geometric prints – not representational. So it takes something really special to make me want to wear it. However, this shirt of Devi, the Great Goddess – the trinity of Creator, Preserver and Destroyer did the trick.  I love the colors, I love the artwork and how it is not lost in the expansion and contraction of the fabric over the shape. That is quality texture work, something that you can depend on with anything from Blowpop.

Dispatches from the PXL Tanning Booth

I wanted to share the new July skin in tan with you. It’s a fabulous tan, bronzed and healthy without a hint of orange. Blue looks gorgeous against a nice tan, so I put on this gorgeous hemp shirt from Phoenix Rising. How exciting that even in SL, sustainable fabrics are gaining in the market. The pants are from A-Bomb and about as fun as pants can be, based on the traditional seaman’s pant, they have been modified to make them more feminine and flattering.
