What City People Think Country Folk Wear

jul08_002

The Real Housewives of New York traveled to Missoula, Montana, because nothing pumps up the drama like making a bunch of women who can barely tolerate each other travel together and be in each other’s company for days on end. Normally the women of New York are impeccably dressed for wherever they go, but with a few exceptions, the RHONY crew did not pack well for Montana. They were more Ralph Lauren New West than the real West. When they went to the rodeo, more than one wore a white prairie skirt. Rodeos are dusty and dirty events — and let’s not forget port-a-potties — where white skirts are downright silly. Watching, I realized I was seeing what city people think country folk wear. Either that or they all wanted to be Laura Ingalls once upon a time.

Bohemian Spirit

Everyone and their mother is probably going to be blogging this dress this weekend and for good reason, it’s fucking gorgeous. I’m not often inspired to find my inner bohemian spirit but this outfit certainly channels it.

The dress and headband are from Zenith and can be found at the new round of FAMESHED. I love how it gathers at the bottom, like, you found the dress in your grandmother’s closet and she was a a little bit taller than you but you didn’t care because it’s so gorgeous.

A Nip in the Air

Dec06_005

There’s a nip in the air today that asks for a big, comfy sweater. And you can find just the thing at Zenith for the With Love Hunt. This is a nice, tunic sweater with a beautiful snowflake pattern on the bottom. It also comes with a big woolen scarf to wrap around your neck that is edged with round puffballs of yard. The scarf even has a color change HUD to let you choose among the different colors in the sweater to coordinate. It’s not cold enough, though, to haul out the scarf today.

It’s 3PM So It Must Be Zenith

sept26_003

Chic Management’s new monthly showcase FAIR has a clever organizing framework. Each monthly showcase is limited to twelve designers each of whom are assigned an hour of the day to serve as their inspiration. It’s a lovely conceit and for many of the items, I could see how the time of day inspired their design immediately. It is fun to walk the clock and try to figure out if I can follow their train of thought. Some were less successful than others are making an obvious connection to their time of day, but I like the challenge and seeing their efforts to meet it.

Miffyhoi Rosca of Zenith was assigned 3 PM and coincidentally, I am typing this very sentence at 3:01 PM. I can’t quite make the connection between the time of day and the off-shoulder sweater, but I certainly can make a connection to the sweater. It comes in three colors and also has matching socks that I did not put on. It’s comfy and cozy and so chic at the same time.

Can’t Orkney firbkkk phone

Zenith June

Can you believe Gidge posted this morning before heading off for surgery? She also live-plurked her way through much of the pre-operative process of drugs and painkillers preparing her for surgery, until her last pre-surgery message, “Can’t Orkney firbkkk phone.” Orkney is where mommies go to nap.

Bragging Rights

jul27_024

The Leona dress from Zenith - Each color set comes in sold and print versions. The dress is by Miffyhoi Rosca - who is among the first dozen friends I made when I joined Second Life four years ago. PS. I hate the new iteration of the SL viewer. I have anti-aliasing on and all my settings are right I still get some raggedy edges.

The Vicious Family

When I first joined Second Life and was rescued by Gidge from the vicious stairs that had me trapped and began working with her (she was my supervisor) I was welcomed into this crazy “family” of folks at Vicious/Hypnoz, a club and shopping mall she managed. I started out cleaning prim trash and translating announcements into Spanish and graduated into helping plan and publicize events. It was a big family that included Miffyhoi Rosca. Miffy introduced me to pillow fighting and crazy gestures. I introduced her to horseback riding and surfing.

Miffy's first creation - a belt and armband

And then she decided she was going to make clothing and launched the Zenith brand. I can remember sitting with our mutual friend (and Gidge’s adopted daughter) Hatchy and one of Hatchy’s loves on a giant pig while watching Miffy spend hours and hours on her first creation – a candy belt and arm bands.  Well, that was 2007 and her style has changed over the years as she has grown from college student to adulthood but her meticulous attention to detail and her love of fashion remains the same. My appreciation of her fashion has grown over the years. Candy belts were never my thing, perhaps being diabetic played a role in that, but how can I resist a lovely flowing floral frock like this?

Deth For Free:Gogo's NEWBIE Style Challenge

posted by Gidge Uriza

OH MY GOD DO YOU KNOW HOW HARD IT IS TO DO A GUY LOOK FOR FREE? WHAT THE FUCK?

Deth hasn’t logged in forever, so I made him let me run his avatar around to do Gogo’s Newbie Style Challenge.  And now that I’ve felt the pain that the guys go through, I gotta say, crap, you guys all just oughta run girl AVs and let it go. Guy fashion is too hard.

HOWEVER………I did it. But it was hard. Continue reading

Hot Summer Nights

On really hot summer nights, there’s nothing better than a pair of loose cotton gauze palazzo pants so light you can feel the breeze flow through them. I took the pair from a Zenith pantsuit and paired it with the bodice of a Zaara summer dress for a nice cool summer night casual look. Adding the fab leather & lace belt from EarthStones put me in the mood for more EarthStones so I popped over there and picked up the matching shoes.

Suspenders

Miffyhoi Rosca of Zenith is one of my longest-known really good friends in Second Life. For fear of showing favoritism, I think I might end up blogging her clothing less than other designers – it’s been over two months since I showed you anything from her.  However, when I was cleaning and sorting inventory and put this outfit on, I had to show you. It’s just so chic and sort of reminds me of a coupld of my idols, Marlene Dietrich and Katherine Hepburn, two women who showed just how sexy women can look in men’s clothing.

Apocalypse Chic

When Miffy came over to the new It’s Only Fashion Blogging Headquarters and Day Spa (a photosphere on the bottom of the ocean in Glookbone back where we began MDR 18 months ago) I asked her if I could shoot her outfit for the blog. Sometimes I can really admire how someone styles herself – even if would never opt for that style – simply because of the utter commitment to her concept.  That’s what engages me with this outfit – that, and the quality of the components beginning with this amazing backpack from Tonktastic.
