Gidge sparked discussion the other day when she asked “Whyfor bloggest thou?” The general consensus is that people blog because they like it. That’s my reason for blogging, too. That’s also the obvious answer. Why would people spend hours on an unpaid hobby if they didn’t like it? However, I thought I might dig a little deeper and ask why I like it. Where are the rewards that make it worthwhile and pleasurable.

Government Housing Redux: Spruced up for Summer
I’ve spent the past few months making my government housing abode comfortable and in keeping with my need for a cozy and welcoming atmosphere. I like where I’ve landed, at least for a minute or two. I’m always on the lookout though, for that amazing low impact item that I just MUST HAVE. 117 prims is not a lot to work with. Thank the Lindens for Mesh.
So then, let’s come inside.
I did add walls to my Linden home. My bedroom is directly off the entry way. I’ve spent a long time picking up the 1 Land impact items to tweak this room I’m pretty happy with it. Continue reading
Form & Function
There are some things in SL that just strike my fancy. The dress form is one of them. I love dress forms. I love that creators are whimsical enough to create dress forms. This month has seen an abundance of them. Allegory Malaprop of Schadenfreude and Julliette Westerburg of Tres Blah both released dress forms as part of their Arcade Gacha items. Sienia Trevellion of Lark also released a lovely dress form and I pulled an older version that I’m particularly fond of out of my inventory, one by Theosophy’s Trace Osterham.
It Was A Dark And Stormy Night – In Paris
If you aren’t a 20 something and you hearken back to your youth, you’ll remember that back in the day in the Peanuts cartoons, Snoopy was often working on his book. His book always begins “It was a dark and stormy night…”. What you might not know is that there is an entire, long running fiction contest centered around this premise – beginning terrible fiction with the phrase IT WAS A DARK AND STORMY NIGHT.
I actually once purchased a compendium of the Bulwer -Lytton contest entries and laughed for days reading it. It’s one of the seminal phrases in American faux literature, and when I rezzed Barnesworth Anubis new skybox for Collabor88 – my first thought was OMG IT WAS A DARK AND STORMY NIGHT. Continue reading
Both Sides Now
Bows and flows of angel hair
And ice cream castles in the air
And feather canyons everywhere
I’ve looked at clouds that way
But now they only block the sun
They rain and snow on everyone
So many things I would have done
But clouds got in my way
Wee Little Me
I stopped by at Avatar Games this morning and got to feel like a wee little tyke. The back wheel of the velocipede dwarfs my avatar.
Luckily I was dressed in some casual clothing suitable for climbing mountains of books. The casual tank is from Pink Outfitters. I was tempted by the cuteness of this purse from MiaMai for The Critter Society arcade. With pandas, fox, raccoons and other critters in a rainbow of colors, even the Grinch would find one to tease out a smile.
An Ingenue in the Forest
The new top from Ingenue features a lovely retro print with a white Peter Pan collar, a style perfect for an ingenue. You can find it in fifteen different colors at The Arcade. Continue reading
There ain’t no V-day on station Insilico
It’s true, aliens hate valentine’s. Something to do with mushy cards and expressing your feelings, it makes them angry. I didn’t want to upset anyone so I threw away my pink lace panties and opted for this cyberpunk outfit from Blue Blood called Beatrix.
Exuberance or Sunday Go to Meetin’
When I saw this dress from Nylon Outfitters for Collabor88, I decided to wear it for my Mardi Gras set when I DJ’ed at The Velvet. It has that flamboyant exuberance with which the last day before Lent is celebrated in many parts of the world. For someone raised in a religious tradition stripped of anything approaching exuberance, it is a fascinating spectacle. There is an element of the opera bouffe in the decadent and wildly flamboyant celebration of music, life and the sensory pleasures for that last Fat Tuesday before the penitent and solemn Ash Wednesday and the month of sacrifice for Lent. As an outsider to the faith, the rituals are like a play, a passionate, loud and beautiful play of extremes – melodrama in its highest form.
I Lerve You
So my look of the day includes wonderful new mesh items from Dilly Dolls and Magika. I’m so happy to see Oriana of Dilly Dolls making new mesh items. The hard work and patience that it takes to learn mesh and rigging and applying textures, well, my hats off to people who do it and do it well.
