It Was a Dark and Stormy Night

mar22_002

It was a dark and stormy night in Borobodur. I had come unprepared for the wind and the rain and desperately wished I had brought an umbrella and was not wearing open-toed sandals. My feet were wet and my shoes slipped on the rough stone stairs. I shivered as sheets of rain poured down soaking through my clothing.

Then I changed my windlight settings. The outfit I wore to Borobodur was a cotton candy confection of pastels and springtime inspirations. It all began with the delicate floral Spring Forward tank from Ingenue. It’s beautifully made with excellent attention to details that we have come to expect from Ingenue. The minty color make me think of these leggings from Bubble that had sat in my closet waiting for their moment. I added the sweater from Tuli because springtime weather can be unpredictable. I was prepared for breezes, but not for downpours.

Whimsy At Fashion For Life

mar21_005

I thought this would be a whimsical final post for my exploration of the Fashion For Life event. It’s the Nyte’N’Day Pop Dress and it’s been a hit and been featured in several posts. However, everyone has a different approach to styling, which is what makes fashion so interesting. With styling, ten people can wear the same thing and still have very different looks. For me, I added some capri length leggings for a more casual look.

Beyond Black and White

mar18_004

One of the pleasures of Fashion For Life has been seeing how creators have responded to the theme. Most obviously are the amazing greyscale builds that remind us all that black and white has a power all its own. Most wittily, SarahtheRed Aubierre of Vanitas Vesture focused on red, green and blue – the RGB color mixing that is literally beyond black and white. Some did not incorporate the theme into their clothing, guided by their own inspirations. Some, like Mami Jewell of Azul – adopted the theme fully and created black and white masterpieces. Canna Sombra is a powerful statement in black and white. You’ve seen the gown before in other colors, since Gidge and I did a shoot together. The dress is so stunningly beautiful we fell in love with its shape and flow. At FFL, you can find this lovely dress and help support cancer research at the same time.

Man, I Feel Like A Woman

So I was bored a few days ago, before the SICK really took hold and knocked me into the RL bed. I went wandering and traipsed through THE ICING.
First of all, THE ICING is officially a store I LOVE HARD. And unlike some places, the freebie wardrobe closet in the store isn’t full of crap I’d never wear (pro-tip I don’t want a tee with your store logo). I had the other two dresses but for some reason this Pizzicato Poppies is new or NEW TO ME.
Which is just as good. Continue reading

Things My Brother Taught Me

mar12_039

All my siblings were married by the time I was four years old and for some of them I was a sort of “practice child” that they spoiled with attention. My elder brother and his wife often had me spend weekends with them where I learned to play horseshoes, shoot pool and throw darts. I also learned how to shoot a rifle, hand load bullets and even aim and fire a cannon. He and his wife taught me ballroom dancing, poker and craps. When I was older, he taught me how to drive his stock car. He took me deer hunting, fishing and taught me to swim. He introduced me to dozens of books and encouraged my love of reading. So much of who I am comes from my siblings, not just him, but all of them. But my other siblings will be around to teach their grandchildren and great-grandchildren and my brother won’t. He died of cancer a year ago last July. Too may children lose the gifts of grandparents and family elders to teach them. The work of the American Cancer Society to find cures for cancers is invaluable. And it’s working, Four times as many people survive cancer as did forty years ago. So, let’s keep supporting this good work with events like Fashion For Life – and if support means wearing a rocking hot outfit like this one, how can you resist?

Obscenity

mar08_006

Gidge shared a list of censor bait from her workplace IT staff yesterday. It’s a long, long, long list of words that will alert the censor sharks to eat emails and make them disappear. There’s a number I have never heard of. In fact, Google® has never heard of “blue vein nose flute” either. Oddly, the word “girls” made the list. Even in naughty e-mails, it’s not the word “girls” that’s naughty, but the surrounding words. The list made me think of my mother who was a fierce and hyper-competitive Scrabble® player. She kept a notebook with the game score of every game she played with people and calculated handicaps so whether the player was a novice or an expert, the game should be a close one. She played to win, which meant that no one should have been shocked to see her use the word “fuck” while playing with the pastor of the Baptist Church. But we were.

No obscenities were harmed in the creation of these photos, though I wonder if any of the designers swore a bit. Whenever I admire the fine detail work in jewelry such as this lovely set from Kunglers, I imagine manipulating those teeny tiny prims and recall how sometimes my cursor slips and prims start flying off into the wide, wide world and feel certain that some words from Gidge’s list might get taken out for a walk. Incidentally, I used no poses in this shoot – because the Baiastice skirt comes with its own AO and thought you might like to see what it does. I am not fond of skirts with AO’s myself – and it’s a simple thing to remove the AO if you’re like me and prefer your own AO, even if you do put your hands in your skirt once in awhile. However, if you want to be sure that your hands are where they should be, the AO will keep your hands where they belong.

….As Long As You Love Me

Although loneliness has always been a friend of mine
I’m leaving my life in your hands
People say I’m crazy and that I am blind
Risking it all in a glance
And how you got me blind is still a mystery
I can’t get you out of my head
Don’t care what is written in your History –
as long as you’re here with me Continue reading

Skin, Skin & More Skin

PXL Linda NAT Gold Lips smoke_001

Vanity Universe Skin Fair got off to a busy start – with a full sim of excited skin shoppers delighting in the new releases and swimming in a sea of demos. PXL Creations newest release for the Fair is Linda Gen3. Hart Larsson released it before the Fair, so many of you may have seen it. I was sick, though, and only got to unpack it until Sunday. I had to blog it even though it’s been blogged several times because it’s such a beautiful and elegant skin. It’s exactly the sort of skin I love, luminous and elegant with many options to allow us to get the exact look we want.

PXL Linda NAT Rose Lips_003

It’s not just the elegant makeups that make me fall in love with PXL Creations skins, it’s the soft and tender sexiness of the body. The tummy and the derriere are delightfully sexy. Special touches are a few stray moles. There’s also a full body tattoo of freckles and cleavage tattoo layers for those who want more uplift.

Scarecrows & Navajos

feb06_014

I have no words of wisdom about scarecrows or Navajos, but Navajo is the name given to this luscious top from Peqe and, well, there is a scarecrow in the photo. I just liked the sound of the two words together. The top is really luscious, isn’t it?

A Weekend In The Country

I decided to take a weekend in the country just to relax and rest. So after going horseback riding and breathing the fresh air and enjoying the scenery and the like (that’s a lot of ANDS)….I was at a loss as to what to do. Continue reading
