A la folie

A la Folie was my budget buster at the GLAM Expo. It was not just the variety of dresses, the sheer femininity of the designs, their movement and whimsy. It was also the wonderful textures she explored from pop prints to the most romantic of white on white embroidery as in this dress she named Josephine.  I don’t know if she gave it that name after the Empress Josephine whose great contribution to fashion was the empire waist, but it seems likely as the layered skirt over another skirt is another style the Empress wore a lot.  Empress Josephine is a favorite character of mine from history, not just because she was an elegant woman with a solid head on her shoulders, but also for her amazing contributions to rose cultivation – she popularized and spread rose cultivation and it’s questionable whether roses would be so common today without her influence. How appropriate then, that the embroider on the underskirt is white on white roses.

Tweed: Fabrics of Fall

I miss Gidge, don’t you? She’s been offline a lot for a very good reason, all her energy going into making a baby so she’s sleeping and napping and sleeping some more. And that’s all good if it means a happy, healthy baby in April. But I still miss her and the blog really misses her posts. She’s so funny and so much fun to pal around with.

And you know she would come up with some clever title to highlight the name of the store for this gorgeous jacket/dress. It’s a lovely tweed with frog toggle closures running up the front. Other great details include the slightly puffed sleeves and cuffs. Though the skirt prim is not open in the front, making it a dress, not a jacket, I decided to squint and think of it as a jacket anyway and wore it with the great tweed pants from Zona Cero.

Sweet Sunday

I love how wildly you can change your entire persona by merely changing clothes and hairstyles. Take off some black leather and put on some batiste and tulle. Comb out the teasing and put in some pigtails. Change the boots for some sandals and in a few minutes you can go from biker chick to girly-girl. In real life, most of us don’t have a broad enough wardrobe to dress in a dozen personas, but in SL – there seems to be no limit. It’s one of the real pleasures of our new world.

And speaking of girly-girl. Is there any place more girly-girl than Hal*Hina? Just look at the lace on that sleeve. Yummy!

Gold To Me

I am a Ben Harper fan. Seriously. He’s a prolific musician who performs a variety of genres defying classification so is the perfect fan-obsession for a peripatetic music lover like me.  One of his songs that I really love is Gold To Me and this dress from Donna Flora made me think of it immediately. The rich gold color is laced with black and luxurious black netting at the neckline and the hem give it this a glam look that is perfect for evening.

You look like gold to me, and I’m not too blind to see.
Oh, you look like gold.
Said, you look like gold.

And you make me want to sing with all the joy you bring.
Oh, you look like gold.
Oh, you look like gold.

Like the rays down from the sun when a new day has just begun.
You look like gold.
You look like gold.

Amber Waves of Grain

I dropped into 6Pi the other day –  a beautiful sim for the Fall into Decay store and just fell in love. I saw a picture of it in New World Notes – the SL news blog. There was an article highlight Koin-Up SL Explorers group and there were these stunning photos that made me write it down for exploring when I logged in.

I know the Donna Flora pantsuit is a touch dressy for exploring, but that’s one of the lovely things about SL. I don’t have to worry about cockleburrs and dry-cleaning.

Girl Next Door Goes Clubbing.

I was out dancing all night long in this outfit and really love the look for dancing, but I do have to share my date’s description. He said, “The girl next door goes clubbing!” I don’t know what that means, but he was particularly chilvarous, so it must be good. The lovely girl-next-door skin is Lily from Exodi and the dress is from Redgrave.
