With Love Hunting

Dec 19_006

If you are on a budget for your Christmas spending and still want a luscious, sexy ballgown, you should spend a little time on the With Love Hunt and search at Vogue – where this gorgeous black lace gown is hiding, waiting for you to find it. It’s a yummy formal gown good for any dressy occasion – well, except for a White Ball, and easy on the pocketbook.

Nulla dies sine linea

Dec17_004

Dear Grazia,

Happy birthday! May your day be joyful, full of the love and companionship of friends and family, overflowing with laughter and camaraderie this year and for many years to come.

I titled this post with Pliny’s description of the artist Apelles, admiring his steadfast devotion to his art. While it literally translates as “not a day without a line,” it is generally read as “you’ve got to keep at it.” I hope you do. You are the exemplar of the single photo that says it all sort of fashion blogging. Your photos are captivating and beautifully executed. You are a rara avis and I hope you go on, not a day without a line.

Guest Stylist: Poly Pistachio – BABY IT'S COLD OUTSIDE

I am so excited that I’ve shot my first Guest Stylist for December and it’s Poly Pistachio (nee Polynesia Resident) who is a lovely person I’ve met on Plurk.  I was in the mood to shoot someone besides me and I was busy being a cloud most of the night anyway (THANKS LINDEN LAB YOUR PRODUCTS ROCK) so I said, POLY! WATCHOO WEARING?

I was able to perform a  very VERY important service to our community also. Poly was trying on shapes Both of which were riding invisible horses. I was able to say “OH MY GOD NO THOSE ARE HORRIBLE NEVER NEVER NEVER BUY THOSE” or something LIKE that. Continue reading

Maxine, Maxine, Maxine

jun08_006

I fell for the Maxine dress from District even before I knew its name. I love the fabric that seems inspired by kente cloth patterns in a subtle cream and beige print. When I saw its name, it was case closed. My former roommate had a cat named Maxine who really liked me a lot and constantly competed with my cats for lap space. She was a black and white ragdoll, adorably cute in that long-haired lap cat kind of way. She was also quite possibly one of the most neurotic cats on the planet.

Damn, My Skirt Got Wet

may13a_029

I went over to see the Worldview of Crie Style – a newly designed and really gorgeous installation at Crie Style and really should not have worn this long gown. It’s Nereide from the new collection at Baiastice of gowns named after dryads and nymphs. My first time wearing it and I soaked the hem.

Especially when Sissy Pessoa of Baiastice provided three options for the skirt including this mini.

The sim was so beautiful, though, it knocked all those practical considerations out of my head.

Emerald Green Squared

apr03_001
It’s certainly not original to wear an emerald green dress like Jeanie from Azul at the Emerald Green sim, but I had to do it anyway. The dress is stunning with layers of soft, sheer and ethereal panels that give flirtatious glimpses of the legs. Boldly bedazzled with silver roses, it is a stand-out-in-the-crows sort of dress. I shot it on the forest floor, a beautiful setting.

Beyond Black and White

mar18_004

One of the pleasures of Fashion For Life has been seeing how creators have responded to the theme. Most obviously are the amazing greyscale builds that remind us all that black and white has a power all its own. Most wittily, SarahtheRed Aubierre of Vanitas Vesture focused on red, green and blue – the RGB color mixing that is literally beyond black and white. Some did not incorporate the theme into their clothing, guided by their own inspirations. Some, like Mami Jewell of Azul – adopted the theme fully and created black and white masterpieces. Canna Sombra is a powerful statement in black and white. You’ve seen the gown before in other colors, since Gidge and I did a shoot together. The dress is so stunningly beautiful we fell in love with its shape and flow. At FFL, you can find this lovely dress and help support cancer research at the same time.

Scarlett Always Dreamed of an Hourglass Waist

Clessidra

Ah! The hourglass waist! The fashionable ideal for centuries, it has never been more fully or literally achieved than in the Clessidra gown released by Squinternet Larnia, the genius behind Donna Flora. There are many joys in shopping at Donna Flora where dresses, suits and jewelry are created with such a range of style and imagination unrivaled in Second Life. Even among the exuberant cornucopia of offerings, Clessidra stands out as uniquely imaginative. With its whimsically eccentric styling, it seems to give a nod to Steampunk influences with its clockwork adornment and jewelry.

Windlight Play , posted with vodpod

I had to rush over to the Spencer Art Museum and shoot this among the Flux of assembling and disassembling mechanical parts that occasionally gave me shove and a nudge. I could not resist trying out several Windlight settings after reading a blog post discouraging bloggers from using Windlight, insisting that facelights were preferable for shooting photos. Folks have every right to give advice – even bad advice. Yes, facelights are intrusive on other people’s enjoyment and experience. However, we can turn off attached lights and those annoying lights won’t render for us. There’s no need to get mad at facelight wearers, we can just ignore their lights. Anyway, if turning off Windlight and running around with a beacon makes people happy, it doesn’t harm me. Even lousy photo-shooting advice is harmless, but I do think it’s disagreeable and unnecessary to suggest that people using Windlight are ugly, take lousy photos and can’t get a date. I mean, if you’re going to write a long essay full of bad advice, at the very least you might try to be polite about it. Okay, my mini-rant is over. Here’s my response, shooting my avatar in a range of Windlight settings and feeling very happy with the results.

Regal

sep29_015.jpg

Monica Outlander’s Black Label collection for her dazzling Spleen and Ideasm show is full of stunning and amazing outfits. The range in mood from the outrageously avant garde to the sedately regal. The Indrith gown is one of the most regal gowns in the collection with its rich colors, its fleur-de-lis textures and its massive panniers that give it majesty.

A dress of this scale deserves a setting that is also majestic – like ChouChou V – Memento Mori with a staircase made for long gowns.
