The Fashionista Achievement Awards: Haters Gonna Hate Sweepstakes

This is the third in our ongoing coverage of the Fashionista Achievement Awards.

The simple truth is “Haters Gonna Hate” is true in every walk of life, including the AO-enhanced walks of Second Life’s Dedicated Followers of Fashion. In this round, the competition focuses on your ability to inspire absurd accusations to explain your success. After all, the explanation could never be so simple as hard work and skill, could it?

150 BronzeThe Bronze Haters Gonna Hate Achievement is when someone says you only receive review, preview or promotional items because you are an ass-kissing, brown-nosing suck-up. This happens often enough that it’s practically a medal for showing up.

150 SilverThe Silver Haters Gonna Hate Achievement is awarded when your success and hard work result in accusations of trading pixel sex for review copies. You get a special bonus if your success inspires Secrets and Anonyplurks from the jealous, unshod, unmaned, and undressed.

150 GoldThe Gold Haters Gonna Hate goes to a very select few who inspire such jealousy that you are accused of having enslaved a creator with your wiles to the degree said creator no longer works for themselves and now works for you, creating content for you. Few succeed in unlocking this achievement because it is hard work finding haters who are that unhinged.

Cajsa Fast Five: April 7th

Fast Five I just finished up my set at The Velvet. This morning’s set featured the greats of West Coast Jazz – Miles Davis, Dave Brubeck, Chet Baker and Eric Dolphy and others. Such a mellow way to wake up. The Fast Five are not mellow, though. Anything but mellow…

  1. No Booze in General: Ciaran Laval notes there seems to be a crackdown on alcohol and cigarettes on Marketplace.  What struck me as ironic is that the article was prompted by a Stella Artois ad in the Google AdSense ads for the forums. Makes me wonder if Second Life® is not actually following that policy with the AdSense ads. It’s even stranger, because Google AdSense’s TOS prohibits blog content that promotes alcohol, smoking or drugs, but will then run ads promoting alcohol.  Continue reading

Cajsa Fast Five: April 6th

Fast Five Today is the final day of AVENUE Fashion Week and I will be heading in-world to watch the shows soon. There are five shows today, so lots to see.  OF course, there is also a lot to to see on the blogs.

  1. Challenge Gallery 33: Watch – The Single Frame Stories photos inspired by the challenge word “Watch” are gathered together. It is so much fun to see who different people run with their ideas, all in different directions.
  2. The Grey-haired Librarian: Dim Sum runs into another cat! I love this series and today’s picture features another beautiful cat.
  3. 1000L Cash Prize: Caduceus Lorakeet writes about a 55 question meme with a cash prize for the one with the best answers and other random prizes. It’s totally funny and the pics Caduceus took to comply with the secondary contest – a very random contest – are great.
  4. Fashion Week: Tanaquil looks gorgeous in the fabulous picture. The styling is great and I must have that dress.
  5. 054: Yukachoco Magic looks beautiful and I totally love the tops she is wearing. The styling is fantastic and so is the setting. I wish I knew where it was.

Too Much Fun at Fashion Week

apr05_005

I have had a lot of fun watching and lusting for all the fabulous fashions at Fashion Week and will be perched on a comfy chair watching today’s shows, too. If only my budget matched my enthusiasm. I picked up this fabulous swing jacket from Ladies Who Lunch in the Retail section at Fashion Show. It came with flats and a coordinating dress, but I decided to mix it up, adding a swimsuit top from Sn@tch and pants from Goucci.

I stopped by a new-to-me shop the other day and fell in love with the foyer before I even saw one piece of clothing. When you look up Goucci in Search, you teleport into the perfect spot, as though you have just stepped off the elevator. So clever.  That’s where I picked up these adorable pants. Bargain hunters, add Goucci to your list. The clothing is beautifully made and more-than-reasonably priced.  The flat you see are the ones that came in the Fashion Week set from Ladies Who Lunch.  Continue reading

What Is Black and White & Short All Over

The Alexis Print dress from LIV-Glam, of course. That’s not actually accurate. The thing with LIV-Glam outfits is they are usually come in a fat pack for the price of a single dress. This particular dress is at The Designers Showroom and comes with the unique LIV-Glam packaging that I love. It comes in a HUD package that you wear. First you specify the size, so you are only getting the pieces you need and not filling your inventory. But don’t worry, if you are wrong, you can ask for a different size. One you put the pieces on, you can click on the hud to change the textures for different outfits. For example, this dress comes in three striped options and three floral options. When you consider that her prices range from 99 to 275 L, you can see that you do get a fat pack of dresses for the price of one. It is important to wear the HUD, not rez it. If you rez it, you will think you have an empty box.

Cajsa Fast Five: April 5th

Fast Five Today we have a new episode of The Drax Files, a magazine feature of The Velvet where I work as a DJ and some cute styles that are colorful and cheery. There’s also news about the new CHUI in  Second Life®. Am I silly for reading CHUI and thinking Star Wars?

  1. The Velvet: Where Music Matters: Compe Lockwood and Sabbian Paine give a lovely introduction to The Velvet for BOSL Magazine. It’s the best club on the grid, and of course, I am not the least biased by DJ’ing there two days a week. Not at all. The article is on page 190.  Continue reading

Cajsa Fast Five: April 4th

Fast Five So one of my sisters has a birthday today and another has a birthday on the 11th and if you add the 4th and 11th, you get my birthday. For some reason that always seemed so significant when I was a kid. Now, not so much.

  1. Delicatessen – Meta Body II: Hybie Mynx revisits Delicatessen and discovers it has changed dramatically. Be sure to check out her post about the beautiful new changes and the second iteration of Meta Body Continue reading

Think of All the Stories That We Could Have Told

Apr03_002

The ottoman is a pose prop from Lost Angel for Pose Fair. The shopping bags come with the ottoman.

One day baby, we’ll be old
Oh baby, we’ll be old
And think of all the stories that we could have told
One day baby, we’ll be old
Oh baby, we’ll be old
And think of all the stories that we could have told

One Day Reckoning by Asaf Avidan

We aren’t old yet; and there’s no reason not to tell our stories now. I think one way we tell our stories is through fashion. What we wear signifies so much about us. as we walk down the street, complete strangers can learn how daring or conventional we are, how flashy or restrained, how forward-looking or how nostalgic. Of course, that is an incomplete picture since we can wear something avant garde one day and something waiflike the next. After all, we contain multitudes.

Cajsa Fast Five: April 3rd

Fast Five It’s Fashion Week, so I hope you are heading out to the runway shows. It can be dangerous, I spent nearly all my money yesterday and there are still more shows to come. But don’t forget to check out the Fast Five after the show.

  1. An Event to Remember: Harper Ganesvoort employs her writing skills to create a fun short story illustrated with Second Life photos. I love to see creative and singular approaches to blogging and that is what she brings.
  2. Meet This Sim: Memenot Mori with Finns: I almost did not click on this title in my reader because we have all seen Memento Mori so very many times. However, guest photographer makes it new again in this first post of a new series from Leda Carter.
  3. My SL Pet Peeves Meme: Strawberry Singh has a new meme. People are sharing their pet peeves. This can go two ways – into a spiral of negativity or into a storm of catharsis. Let’s all try and make it the latter.
  4. Spread Your Wings and Fly: Carthalis Rossini brings to life another amazing alternative avatar – an avian being this time. More than anyone, he consistently makes alternative avatars appealing.
  5. Loovus Dzevavor for AVENUE Spring/Summer 2013 Fashion Week: Mokatana Boa does a fabulous job highlighting some of the collection. I went to the show yesterday and was blown away. I spent way more than I can afford, but if you look at these pictures you will understand how that happened.
