And the Fabbie Goes To… Achariya

It's Only Fabulous

This post is a Fabbie!

Achariya Maktoum began blogging just a week after I joined Second Life®, well before I even knew there were fashion blogs. When I began reading the blogs, her posts always stood out for several reasons. The creativity of her styling, her distinct voice and the quality of her writing. Never content to be good, she also actively worked to learn new skills in editing her photos and developed a photographic vision as distinct and powerful as her writing.  Today she posted her last post as she has decided to focus her talent for writing in real life pursuits. While that is sensible in terms of career and in life, I know we will all miss her imaginative vision and her unique voice.

Acha invited friends to show up for a last post picture. It's a testament to her that so many people were thrilled to come, even if not thrilled at the reason.

Achariya’s blog became a favorite of many readers for several reasons. Primarily, she offered something different. She loved alternative fashions and skins and readers could never predict what she might come up with from one day to the next. She also had a lot of common sense. For example, an old complaint about fashion blogging has been that bloggers blog the same things.  As she pointed out in her Same Damn Thing Challenge, that even so, they would look very different. She also was a firm supporter of content designers and a sensible voice in the controversy over how to respond to content theft, doing a series of posts highlighting creators and asking their experience and thoughts on content theft. And of course, Boy Acha has been appearing in this blog for the last few months as she jumped in to help keep this blog active while I was so sick. Because that’s what she’s like, ready to jump in with both feet when she’s needed.  So, the Fabbie for today and for always goes to Achariya. Good luck with your new ventures.

PSSSSSST! I HAS A SECRET!!!!

Shhhhh! I am not supposed to be saying this! But some of you may have seen the drama Elusyve and I had with our store mascots over at GESTICULATE! Well – we had NO choice but to simply let them all go and hold auditions for new store mascots.

As that excitement grew, we realized that the gnomes were never EVER going to let us go – so we did the only thing we could. We completely rebranded and moved everything. As a matter of fact, the gnomes don’t know we’re gone. They’re still sitting around listening to the lucky chair call letters at the old place. Continue reading

Quick Look:Adam N Eve New Tattoo Eye Makeups!

I happen to know that Fantasy Faire is coming up (or is it Fantasy Fest? – too many Faires and Fests and what not I can’t keep them all straight) – REGARDLESS, Adam N Eve has just released some delicate and beautiful eye makeups that I think Faeries, Sprites, and various other creatures of the Seelie or Unseelie Courts might find attractive.
Plus, I really like them too. Continue reading

Chills…They're Multiplyin'

mar27_008

and I’m losing control. It’s electrifyin’. There is an electrifying piece of news for those of us who love Tres Jolie designs. Iota Ultsch, the imaginative designer behind the Tres Jolie curtain, has released a new dress. This is a woman who can take a tired tread and turn it into a hot and sexy dress, so it’s always exciting to see what she’s blended up for us. Crucifix does not disappoint. With a complex duotone pattern, the dresses are in enticing colors that draw your eye. The sexy bounce of the skirt prims just adds to the allure.

Iota doesn’t just make clothing, though. She is an architect and makes bold modern homes and fabulous furniture and art. Here I am posing at my new Abode home just a hop, skip and a jump from the Tres Jolie store.

Cyber Geisha – More Than a Web Cam Girl…

That’s right. Cyber Geisha is a spoiled digital girl. As soon as I saw her at the Another Fundraiser 2 event I knew she was a girl after my own heart, and she had to be mine.

If you haven’t been/heard of the event yet, this is a fantastic fundraiser which is benefiting the Red Cross Relief for Japan. You can pick up skins and tattoo makeups all for 50L and the variety and choices are outstanding. Everything from traditional faces to this very festive Cyber Geisha. Continue reading

Saturday Night – Loving Baiastice Hair Attachments

I was always so skeptical of hair attachments as a fashion statement until I really found good ones I liked. Amacci and Baiastice always come right to mind when I think of them (ok If I’m leaving you out calm down, I’m blonde and forgetful).
Sissy Pessoa recently released a new set of attachments and also offers hair bases at her shop so you can be SURE of a perfect match up.
I decided there wasn’t anything better than to just slather myself in Baiastice which continues to be one of my favorite stores around. Continue reading

In love with fabrics

mar24_003

Today’s outfit highlights two items that are so artfully done you can feel the fabric against your avatar. The top is from Gizza, a lovely sheer chiffon with beautiful puffy sleeves and a ruffle. The pants are from Studio Sidhe and I have worn them before. I have had them some time now and still love their linen loveliness. Far superior to real life linen, Second Life® linen does not wrinkle and its little nubbins don’t ever get itchy either, giving you the cool, crisp elegant look of linen without the bother. I love linen, but it’s a bother.

I snapped the pics in a little nook in the river canyon at Dark Moon. It’s a beautiful sim and this pic does not show off any of its highlights such as floating pods of coleus and such. However, the flowers were so beautiful, I opted for their simplicity.

Does This Make My Ass Look Fat?

mar23_004
Possibly one of the most dangerous questions in history, Second Life fashionistas know that system skirts can prompt the question “does this make my ass look fat?” For whatever technical computer-y reason, system skirts seem to float above the body mesh, creating what Phaedra of Real Housewives of Atlanta calls donkey booty. You can prevent donkey booty with a skirt shape. There’s some resistance to this idea, I think folks feel it’s too much work, but really, it’s a short and easy one-time effort.

mar23_009
Here you can see that with my regular shape, there is a bit of a donkey booty. The best made system skirt in the world will give you a bit of a donkey booty unless you already have a very small bottom. Of course, the larger your bottom, the more donkey in the donkey butt there will be. So, you can see there’s reason for making a skirt shape and saving it in your inventory so you have it on hand for all future system skirts.

It Was a Dark and Stormy Night

mar22_002

It was a dark and stormy night in Borobodur. I had come unprepared for the wind and the rain and desperately wished I had brought an umbrella and was not wearing open-toed sandals. My feet were wet and my shoes slipped on the rough stone stairs. I shivered as sheets of rain poured down soaking through my clothing.

mar22_009

Then I changed my windlight settings. The outfit I wore to Borobodur was a cotton candy confection of pastels and springtime inspirations. It all began with the delicate floral Spring Forward tank from Ingenue. It’s beautifully made with excellent attention to details that we have come to expect from Ingenue. The minty color make me think of these leggings from Bubble that had sat in my closet waiting for their moment. I added the sweater from Tuli because springtime weather can be unpredictable. I was prepared for breezes, but not for downpours.

Whimsy At Fashion For Life

mar21_005

I thought this would be a whimsical final post for my exploration of the Fashion For Life event. It’s the Nyte’N’Day Pop Dress and it’s been a hit and been featured in several posts. However, everyone has a different approach to styling, which is what makes fashion so interesting. With styling, ten people can wear the same thing and still have very different looks. For me, I added some capri length leggings for a more casual look.
