Bandana Day 2010

sep16_006.jpg

It’s Bandana Day – when we remove our hair and don bandanas in a show of solidarity for the many people who lose their hair during chemotherapy. If you have not got a bandana, pop over to Hair Fair and pick up one of the many innovative and fun bandanas created to raise funds for Wigs For Kids, the charity for which Hair Fair is raising funds.

Bandana Day 2010: Dedicated to QXI Gears

posted by Gidge Uriza

My Bandana Day post today is dedicated to my beloved friend QXI Gears who has just walked the path of chemo and radiation, hopefully for the last time. I do not see her enough or talk to her enough, but I love her dearly and think of her often.

Which isn’t enough.

Beauty isn’t on the outside. And it doesn’t reside in our hair.

Bandana Day 2010 is here to remind us.

Paper Couture Is Srss Fashn:Special Guest Gabe Bookmite

posted by Gidge Uriza

It was kismet, fate, meant-to-be and fortune all rolled up into a nice little ball of coincidence.

I had noted a plurk announcing that Paper Couture had released their fall collection for sale just moments before I logged in that day, so thought “What the hell” and ported over. The place was crampacked with A-listers, some of whom were naked for some unknown reason (my TPV seems to leave people naked a long time for me, so OHAI I’ve seen a lot of you naked lately). I waded through the sea of matte grey individuals for a spot in the room and then began the slow process of camming about. Continue reading

Magpie

sep11_013.jpg
I swear I am like a magpie sometimes. Flash some bright color my way and I am there! That certainly is how the Landa dress from Anubis caught my eye. I was walking through the boutique stalls at Modavia Fashion Week and a splash of lime caught my eye. Then it dragged me over and made me buy this dress. After being forced to buy the dress by a color, it’s a good thing I like it! The sweater details over the lime top are spot on.

I decided to hang out at the record shop and show it off. It’s an ideal dress for music and dancing, so the record shop at Virtual Decay made sense to me.

Now You See It

sep10_013.jpg
AlaFolie is one of the wonderful stores features at Modavia Fashion Week. The magnificent Farfalla dress set is an amazing collection with one dress, three skirt lengths – each wearable with or without the jacket for six options, and incidentally (or accidentally), with one of the jacket prims for a total of nine possible looks. This picture shows you the tea length version with and without the jacket.

Taking off the jacket system piece and sleeves, but keeping the remaining jacket prim gives me a baby doll tea length dress. On the right, you can see the short dress length.

Props for Poses

sep08_003.jpg
I love furniture and houses that have some poses built in and wanted to show you some of the lovely poses in Y’s Omake house and furniture. I am wearing a casual outfit featuring elements from Project Donate for UNICEF, Designers United and Hair Fair – a few of the events that are going on now.

I want to give props to the poses in Y’s houses and furnishing. I could not resist the beautiful windowseat full of poses that make the Omake house such a wonder.

Echoes & Mirrors

sep08_017.jpg
The myths of Narcissus and Echo have inspired a tremendous outpouring of art throughout history and now and exhibition of the creative arts of Second Life with Designers United. The majority of the work at Designers United is fashion – such as this dress I am wearing, but there’s also posemaking and home building. The mirroring bench I used in these shots with their poses is an outstanding example of that creativity and craftsmanship.
sep08_014.jpg
The genius is that the poses in the bottom bench mirror the poses in the top and a semi-sheer prim separates them to give the effect of water. Taking two photos and putting them together is a relatively simple task and with the bench designed to create the mirrored effect, it was an easy thing to do.
