A Busy Weekend for Fashionistas

Night Wish

This is a busy weekend for those who love fashion in Second Life. There’s so much going on my head spins. Thankfully, Evelyn Hartshon who works on Blogging Second Life with me has compiled a directory of events to help keep track. Of course, if you click that link you run the risk of spending all your lindens.

On Sunday Chic² opens to celebrate the second birthday of Chic Management. I stopped by the bloggers preview and was wowed by its simplicity coupled with the overwhelming variety of offerings from the 150 designers who have come together to celebrate this milestone.

Hope Is the Thing with Feathers

Hope Is the Thing with Feathers

I uploaded this windlight setting. The download link is further down in the post.

Avenue’s Couture of Hope fashion extravaganza for Relay for Life opens today at noon SLT. The 40 participating designers were asked to create a piece that embodies their vision of a “season of hope.” Entre Mares created this stunning piece that immediately brought Emily Dickinson’s beautiful poem to mind. Hope is the thing with feathers...

B&W Rock Opera?

Aug02_002.jpg

The Niven Collection by Scarlett Niven is primarily an exploration of the vast possibilities of black and white. Yes, there are a few items in the store with color, but by and large, the entire collection is a symphony in black and white. Actually, maybe rock opera is more accurate because the designs are very a la page. Symphony, Rock Opera? What do you think?

This dress I am wearing is called BodyCon and I am not positive what Con stands for but Body Conscious would be a good option. The always fashion forward styles of N-Core make a perfect alliance with Niven Collection clothing.

Another study in black and white is the romantic and stylized China sim – where visitors find themselves within a Chinese watercolor and ink painting.

An IOF PSA: How to Request Customer Service

aug01b_006.jpg

The BabyDoll Dress (Vintage) from House of Fox is a playful, fun summer dress.

I first saw this gorgeous BabyDoll Vintage dress on  the feed. I jotted down the name of the store (House of Fox) and when I next logged in I hopped on over there to get the dress. I am a sucker for vintage floral prints and the print is not only lovely, but I love the way the shape of the skirt and the beautifully made belt. I easily found the store in search and also fell in love with a few other things like the dress you saw yesterday. I was a happy camper until I put the dress on to go shoot photos for the blog and noticed there were no glitch pants and my cheeks were showing. More than my cheeks, but that’s what lingerie is for. However, lingerie did not provide the coverage I needed.  At that precise moment I was feeling a bit wrathful – particularly with the blogger for not pointing this out – but I have learned long, long ago that it’s never wise to ask for a repair or a fix in a wrathful mood, so I decided to wear something else and ask for a fix when I was less agitated. Sure enough, after a time I was calmer and realized that both the blogger and the designer may have been looking at and shooting the dress on a pose stand and not run around enough to see the flaw. And that, dear readers, is the first rule of requesting customer service. Always wait until you feel calm and collected before contacting the store. This is as true in the virtual as in the corporeal world.

Frolicking at the Akasha, Lost Paradise sim.

The pictures in this post were shot at Akasha the Lost Paradise – a lovely sim full of flowers and graceful ruins. So, now you can see from all the quite active Lost Angel Dance and Spring Fever poses I used in this post and the other pictures of the dress on my Flickr, this dress now has glitch pants. That’s because the next time I logged in I calmly and politely asked the creator to send me some. That’s the second rule of requesting customer service: Always make your request clearly and politely. Not Gollum

Agnes Finney makes deliciously glam clothing, but I confess that her store name To My Precious makes me think of Gollum. However, is there anything in the world less Gollumish than this gorgeously glam red dress with the thigh-high slit in the pencil skirt and the glorious butterfly sleeves?

Old Friends…New Ventures

This outfit actually highlights the work of two people whom I have known since my early days in SL two years ago who have struck out in new directions since then. The dress is made by Shinichi Mathy who was one of Maht’s first clients when we opened MDR in November 2007 – nearly two years ago. Back then he was modeling as was his business partner Jeckie Hax who was another of Maht’s clients. Now they own Shiki Designs and this dress is one of their stellar designs.  The skin is from Kira Paderborn whom I met two years ago as well after I was told I had a terrible shape. I felt discouraged, but Kira whipped me into shape (literally) in nothing flat. Her business, Shapes by Kira, is one of the most respected shape stores on the grid and is very popular. Now she is making skins and this is her second skin, called Eva and it’s just luscious. It’s great to see folks moving in new directions and developing such great skins and showing so much creativity. Now let me pull up my rocker so I can rock and say “I knew them when…”

99

Every once in a while I take a peek to see how many posts Gidge and I have done using one designer or another. Some of course will be in nearly every post (eyes and eyelashes) and some may have been featured a few times only. I ran into Saschi Vixen at the Shape/Skin Expo and just for fun took a quick peek and saw that we had done Adam n Eve 98 times. We chatted for a while and then her partner dropped a pair of the new Yehaw boots on me and I know what would be in #99.  I told Saschi that we were 2 posts away from 100 and she said we ought to have a party. That may be fun, but I ran out of patience and decided to whoop it up with the kickass Yehaw boots and number 99.

It's Not Nice to Fool Mother Nature

But who would want to when Mother Nature is as luscious as this gown from Staged for the BlackSwan Swansong – the month long requiem for the Rezzable sim. With a brilliant fuschia bikini and pants and floral bodice covered with sheer wisps of organza and trailing fallen leaves – the falling leaves and elegiac reminder of the fallen sim.

Girl From Elsewhere Goes Clubbing

Well, if that last outfit was the Girl Next Door Goes Clubbing, this one is definitely the Girl from somewhere else.  I got more compliments and propositions wearing this in one day than I usually get in a month. I think it was the combination of everything – the dress, the hair, the skin. Whatever, this dress which is also from Redgrave certainly is hot.

Like the other outfit from Redgrave, this one comes with some key essentials including the stockings and the brilliant gold bangles. There are two bangles on each wrist – using the hand and forearm attachment points to give this more verisimilitude.
