1964

1964_005

Every once in a while social, cultural and political events converge in a year that changes everything. 1964 was one of those years. It was the year of the Civil Rights Act that prohibited race and gender discrimination. President Johnson said it would cost the Democratic Party the South for a generation. Seeing that it’s two generations since then and the Southern Strategy still dominates electoral politics, he gave people too much credit. 1964 was the year America began bombing in Vietnam. Contrary to the stereotypical Archie Bunker, the majority of the working class was opposed to the war which was most strongly supported by economic and cultural elites – a natural byproduct of the college exemption from the draft that placed the risks of war solidly on the poor and working class, just as they shoulder the majority of the risk today.

Dear Sachi I Was Wrong

It’s LOVE-LOVE.

Adam N Eve have a new skin that will be released very soon and I’ve had it on for three days. Sachi asked me to try it on just to see what I thought of it, and I liked it a lot at first. She said “but not love-love eh?” And I floundered. I couldn’t decided.

I was wrong. I’ve had this skin on three days. I’m a skin chameleon excitedly changing from one to the next. This skin is so gorgeous and feels so comfortable on Gidge, I’ve left it on outfit after outfit.

I simply cannot wait till she releases it. And if you are on Sachi’s TL on plurk, you know it has really nice boobies too.

So put aside your lindens girls, there is a gorgeous new skin coming your way soooooon. Continue reading

Fun With GOS Boots or HOW THE SHOE POLISH WORKS

One of the things I’ve learned in four years, is that you can never be sure that everyone GETS everything. I’ve been asked a couple of times recently if I knew how the boot polishes at GOS worked, so I figured HEY BLOG POST.

Cuz I have a blog.

So first off, take yourself to GOS and buy yourself some boots or shoes that have the boot polish system available. For my example I’m going to use the 8 hole DOCS.

They look like this, only smaller. Continue reading

Bandana Day

bandana day_006

One of the great elements of Hair Fair is that it asks for more participation from us than just shopping, blogging or building. Each year, it asks all of us to take off our hair and don a bandana in solidarity with those who are going through cancer treatment and losing their hair. Hair is very precious to us. Most of us when asked to describe ourselves, start with our hair color Our hairstyles are our signs to the world, communicating our interests, tastes and values. When people lose their hair, that signifier that said they are chic, or sporty, or rebellious is lost and replaced with a new signifier – Cancer Patient.
Bandana Day 2011
That is why Wigs For Kids is such a critical support to children who are going through cancer treatment. Children are already struggling to establish their identity, to individuate – and when cancer treatment robs them of such a critical signifier as hair, it’s important to restore that as best we can.

Hair Fair Long Hair Styles

ContactSheet

There’s a lot of wonderful styles of long hair at Hair Fair. Here’s a sampling of what you can find. You can see the full size pictures in a set on my Flickr.

After shooting all the long styles, I ran over to Silent Hill, a role-playing sim, and popped on an OOC/Visitor tag to snap some pictures. It’s a gorgeous, moody retro Americana sim that looks like the perfect setting for something scary.

Indy & Co Farouk_001

If you have already gone to the Accessory Fair and think you have seen it all, you haven’t. Indy & Co. just released Indyra Seigo’s contribution to the Accessory Fair as she was ill. You are probably more familiar with her clothing for Indyra Originals, but she also has a shoe line called Coquette Noir and the jewelry line called Indy & Co. The Farouk Necklace and Earrings are a bold addition to the many Egyptian-inspired pieces at the Accessory Fair and make an elegant transition from ancient to modern fashion.

I will be showing you several pieces in this post, so I wanted a perfect dress to highlight jewelry. I chose the Rosalie gown from Miao as it’s a perfect foil for jewelry with v-neckline and classic shape. It has a modern touch with a wide beaded waistband. Coming with a sculpt or flexi-skirt it allows you the option of the movement of flexi or the photographic charms of sculpts.
