May Flowers

may12_002

Those April showers have brought May flowers, which you can clearly see in the closeup of the jewelry I am wearing today, but first let’s enjoy the lovely ombre skirt from Boom that is aptly named Horizon – a nod to its bands of color. The camisole top I am wearing with it is another from Kunglers recent release of casual separates.

I love the pose – one of many I use time and again from Adorkable. I am heartbroken that Adorkable is closing. I love the mirrored poses and the simplicity and grace of her poses. However her poses will still be on marketplace, so I will keep on using them. Meanwhile, she is having a 50% of closing sale – so get thee hence.

Color and Contrast

may04_004

I love the new casual releases from Kunglers. The top and pants I am wear are both from their newest release which included three tops and one pair of pants, all in a range of colorful prints that are the Kunglers hallmark. The soft blue and green print in this top is so subtle and subdued that it made an easy and elegant pairing with the boldly patterned pants.

Why I Blog Meme

apr24_005

Strawberry Singh in her seemingly infinite curiosity has a new meme asking people to explain why they blog. I figure that is something I have to be able to answer.

How long have you been blogging? Since January 1, 2008.

Why did you start blogging? For all the free stuff, of course. Joking!!! I blogged for months before I ever received a single preview copy from a designer. People who blog know that even with promotional copies, there are all sort of expenses since there is more to an outfit that a piece of clothing. There’s the shoes, the hair, the jewelry, etc. I am sure a few people start blogging with that moment and they are the ones who quit blogging in three months. For me, I love fashion and love styling outfits. I also wanted to challenge myself as photographer. And clearly, I have to be a bit of a show-off to holler “Hey, Look at me! See what I’m wearing” once a day.

How many times a week do you post an entry? I try to post daily. I like to imagine my readers checking once a day and I don’t want to disappoint them by not having new content.

Apr24_004

How many different blogs do you read on a regular basis? I read hundreds of blogs. I check the several feeds, but I also have use a reader for blogs that aren’t on feeds. Besides Second Life blogs, I read fashion blogs, news and opinion blogs and online magazine sites.

Do you comment on other people’s blogs? Not as often as I should. I would comment more if CAPCHA died in a fire.

Do you keep track of how many visitors you have? Yes and no. When I think of it, I do. However, I have not added Google Analytics or anything to really get a complete view of my visitors. I just look at the built-in WordPress stats. I would love to get an aggregate count of blog and feed views.

Did you ever regret a post that you wrote? No. I am pretty judicious in what I blog. Most of it is about fashion. Occasionally I have addressed one or another issue that is roiling the community, but I think I am able to bring a fair analysis to them. I do not expect to please everyone. That would be banal.

Do you think your readers have a true sense of who you are based on your blog? A bit, not a complete sense. I don’t discuss politics on my blog, so there’s a big piece of my personal interests and passion left out.

Do you blog under your real name? Not my real name, but my real Second Life pseudonym. My blog is pseudonymous, not anonymous.

apr24_006

What is the theme/topic of your blog? The main topic is clearly Second Life fashion. I also write about my life, what I think about things and sometimes I do tutorials.

Do you have more than one blog? If so, why? Yes. I also have Blogging Second Life, Second Sites and Single Servings. The first is not so much a blog, but a directory of Second Life stores and blogs. Second Sites is a place anyone can post a pic and slurl to create a collection of SL sims. Single Servings is a recipe/cooking blog. I also blog about Second Life art and photography at Shopping Cart Disco, though I have been slacking lately on that one. I feel like I have said everything and am just repeating myself.

What have you found to be the benefits of blogging? It’s a method of self-expression. More importantly, it provides structure, discipline and a focus objective in Second Life – something to do. It has connected me to the broader SL community. It’s fun, probably the most important benefit.

Pop vs. Soda

apr16_005

The Soda Pop Dress from Deco for April’s Collabor88 reminded me of the ancient cultural struggle between those who say Soda and those who say Pop and the outliers who say Coke. It’s a conflict that has been mapped and researched and will probably continue long after we all are gone. DECO’s designer sidestepped the controversy by called the dress the Soda Pop dress, showing a keen instinct for diplomacy.

59th Street Bridge

apr10_003

Retro prints make me happy and I could not resist trying to make a thoroughly modern look out of the gorgeous Kitsch leggings from Tableau Vivant for Collabor88. Adding a very modern bodysuit and capelet from Molichino, this look may be feeling groovy, but it’s hippie chic not hippie chick.

Slow down, you move too fast, you’ve got to make the morning last
Just kickin’ down the cobble-stones, lookin’ for fun and feelin’ groovy

MiaMai Makes Magic

Apr 07_003

I am loving the spring/summer collection from MiaMai that was released for AVENUE fashion week. These are great casual pieces and comfy resort wear that suit the season. With romantic florals and flirty hems, the entire collection is full-on feminine. This is the Sagi dress which comes in several print sleeveless asymmetrical dresses worn over a lace system layer blouse.

The Cure For Fashion Ennui Is FASHION WEEK

Shopping Therapy_003

Cajsa rousted me from my sloth by taking me to the Avenue Retail room, where the fashion houses of SL are putting for sale the items they’ve shown on the runways. As the room began to rez, directly in front of me stood a pink dream.

So I had to have it. Continue reading

Think of All the Stories That We Could Have Told

Apr03_002

The ottoman is a pose prop from Lost Angel for Pose Fair. The shopping bags come with the ottoman.

One day baby, we’ll be old
Oh baby, we’ll be old
And think of all the stories that we could have told
One day baby, we’ll be old
Oh baby, we’ll be old
And think of all the stories that we could have told

One Day Reckoning by Asaf Avidan

Apr03_011

We aren’t old yet; and there’s no reason not to tell our stories now. I think one way we tell our stories is through fashion. What we wear signifies so much about us. as we walk down the street, complete strangers can learn how daring or conventional we are, how flashy or restrained, how forward-looking or how nostalgic. Of course, that is an incomplete picture since we can wear something avant garde one day and something waiflike the next. After all, we contain multitudes.

Sassy at Fashion for Life

Mar11_003

There is so much that is smart about this lovely dress from Sassy! for Fashion for Life. For one thing, it is made in two pieces, as a top and a skirt so it can be worn separately and mixed and matched. For another, the chevron shape of the band is flattering and sexy as all get out. For another, the weave of the fabric is gorgeous and I love the light and dark threads. Continue reading

Day to Night

Mar09_003

When we can change clothes with a click of button, carrying our entire closet with us wherever we go, we aren’t burdened with the challenge of trying to dress for the office and a date with one outfit. However, I thought it might be a fun thing to try anyway. I will concede the skirt is short for the office, but overall, I think this made a fairly good office look. I wore a lovely structured jacket from Elate with a snug waist that flows into a petal-like near peplum. I added a big fluffy bow from Yummy! to add a touch of modesty to the bodice. The bow was a pale mint, but I tinted it to limit my shades of green to two, not three. Both of these finds are from the March Collabor88.

Mar09_004

But when five o’clock rolls around, the jacket is coming off and that fluffy bow is being rotated to hang over the shoulder, so the gorgeous and sexy bandeau style bodice on this fabulous mini from Cracked Mirror is visible in all its glory. You can find this dress at faMESHed.
