This Is How I Dress When I Want Stuff from I.T.

posted by Gidge Uriza

The creator of elegance, Sascha Frangilli, stretched your formal ball-gown’s possibilities with this suit jacket styled blouse for your YOUP gown. I suppose you MIGHT want to put a shell under it if you attended a conference……..or WOULD YOU? Continue reading

A Sure Touch

There’s no sure touch with separates than Iki from Dutch Touch – whose newest release of casual separates will not disappoint. For me the highlight is the striped sweater – which comes in many different color combinations including the lovely  pink/raspberry sweater above. The skirt is Baiastice and comes with that bright silver belt right on the glitch pants layer

The Start of Something Big

There’s more than green beer to look forward to on St. Patrick’s Day this year. At 5 pm that day, Ryker Beck will release her new Genesis Eden skins to the general public.  Many of you know Ryker Beck for her outstanding photography and her jewelry line. She has always been generous with tips and tutorials on her web site for those seeking to improve their SL photo skills. As a photographer first – I think she has brought a special understanding to the art of skin creation.  And for those of us plurkers, we have followed the process of creating Eden from alpha to omega. Today you will probably see the 8 different shades this skin comes in all across the fashion blogs – because it’s an exciting new skin.

Casual Sn@tch Friday-and a Hair Story

posted by Gidge Uriza

I think Ivey Deschanel is one of those creators who cares too much.  She has this big heart, and wants everyone to be happy. I believe that it is this character flaw  that causes her to do things like this.

Like what? Like create pants and ankle boots that can be worn together with minimal borking.  I stay away from ankle boots because they always look retarded with pants a LOT (poking through the bottoms of flairs etc) so I don’t bother.

The length on the pants and the height of the boot - JUST miss each other

These metropolitan boots are also a great buy because they contain my favorite versatility feature in accessories – color change. That rocks.

So let me tell you about the hair. Yes I have a short HAIR story. Continue reading

Afrophilia

The new issue of Vanity Fair suggests that the explosion of leopard, zebra crocodile and python in fashion is the byproduct of Afrophilia. They offer many examples of clothes and accessories in the trend – but I don’t know if that proves their point.

I was thinking it was nostalgia for the Abba and disco. 8)  To illustrate my suggestion, I went for it big with leopard and palazzo pants and hair that might be a bit over the top – but it sings “I Will Survive” at the top of its lungs. Not only will I survive, but I will wrestle wild animals to do so.

An Ode to the System Skirt

With all due apologies to Mrs. Browning:

How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.
I love thee to the depth and breadth and height
My hem can reach, when looking out of sight
For the ends of Fashion and PXL’s Grace.
I love thee to the end of everyday’s
Fashion Feed, by Default and Windlight.

Sometimes when I see a dress that draws my eye, I realize that it is a twofer. What I mean is that it can be worn off the rack, so to speak, as a dress or it can be worn as separates, the skirt being worn with other tops, the bodice being worn with pants or a skirt.  Often when I decide to mix it up, I try a system skirt first because they often have higher waists and the blouse-waist transition is less problematic.

Spring Into Pink

posted by Gidge Uriza

Clio’s Blooming Flower dress was the perfect choice to pair with the real flower jewelry from Petal Meg. Spring is just popping up all around me, and I couldn’t resist the tulip inspired skirt that ornaments this festive dress.

And of course I had to add the hair from Elle F because you know. I gotta do that brand new thing! 🙂  It’s cute. Continue reading

Lotería

I used to love playing Lotería – a graphic bingo/keno game very popular in Mexico. We played it in Spanish class on the days when our teacher was tired and really would have rather been home with a blanket and a good book.  She pretended it was in the lesson plan, but we all knew better. What made Lotería so funwere the fabulous and, to us, bizarre illustrations.  You cannot play without wondering how those particular items were chosen to be the magical 54 illustrations. Whatever it was – it was genius and so are the lovely Lotería earrings and other jewelry produced recently  by Halfpint Pennel from the Stokame Artist Colony. It’s so great to find something new and different and fun. I have to say the same thing when I mention the scarf shown here. From Vette’s, this scarf is a clever combination of prim with your choice of undershirt, shirt or jacket layer options that makes it look nearly flawless.

Cajsa Went Gonzo, I Went Showgirl

posted by Gidge Uriza

The Pearls and Amethyst Showgirl Costume from Reasonable Desires is possibly one of the nuttiest things I’ve ever put on. Great big huge flexi prims waving in the wind…..flipping and flopping as you move……

They’re sort of great. But then I wasn’t the one taking pictures, so love to Cajsa for sorting through it. When you are moving, though, vs trying to find a pose, you don’t really run into these issues quite so much.

Before you start shrieking about a seam on my neck, this is a body stocking. Yes, just like a REAL Vegas Showgirl wears if you’ve ever seen one. Continue reading

On the Sunny Side of the Street

The sunshine yellow in this joyful spring skirt and blouse from Mimikri made me think of the joyful and exuberant song “On the Sunny Side of the Street.”  This is the yellow of sunshine and springtime.   That song is particularly interesting in that many believe it was written about the experience of “passing” – the practice by some light-skinned blacks of passing as white to increase their opportunities.

Grab your coat and get your hat
Leave your worries on the doorstep
Life can be so sweet
On the sunny side of the street
