Do Androids Dream of Electric Shopping Carts?

I dreamed I went to Shopping Cart Heaven and woke up in Utopia03 – another of the five World Expo islands. This island is an art installation by Bryn Oh and is called no colour. Similar to the other installations in the series – that name is at once extremely fitting and extremely ironic. The android dreams of the shopping carts are of metamorphosis into the natural and so – with time shifts – the sim comes alive with lysergic-laced dreams of color as the shopping carts morph into fantastical plants and trees.  Alas, their dreams are short and they wake up again to their colorless existence. However, I think there is more beauty in their natural state of detritic decay than in their exuberantly colorful fantasies.

The sim’s monotonal color scheme is a perfect setting for the limited tones in the top and skirt I wore – and the tribal stamp print fabric is echoed in the terrain textures.  Both the top and skirt are from Lelutka – though not produced as a set. The construction of the top is amazing. For example, the main bodice color is achieved by layering the printed texture sculpt with a sheer blue sculpt over it – giving the color depth and luster that is only achieved through the interplay of two separate textures. The details such as the skirt belt and rivets are also extremely well made and add stunning elements of design and precision.

I’m layzeee. I’ve had this dress for days and I know the whole planet blogged it by now.

I also don’t care. Because there is no such thing as too much of a good thing, except maybe booze, as there is certainly a point that is too much of THAT. But since pixel fashion won’t poison you – I thought I’d still share this beautiful cocktail gown just in case you’ve been asleep a few days. You need a new cocktail dress anyway. Go get this one.

Fabulous Florals

I used to have a dress very similar to this – a fitted bodice, short sleeves, full skirt with the fabric a glorious garden of orange and yellow flowers. I loved it and wore it and wore and wore it – until I wore it out. It was not a lovely silk challis like this one, but a very light-weight cotton and was just loved to death. Poor dress! I miss it. So what a joy to discover a dress so similar – and with a much more durable and luxurioius fabric.

Jeans No_29

I went shopping with Cajsa some weeks ago and cleaned out my Linden balance buying this and that at the cutest shopping area she’d found.  But being me, I didn’t write down what I bought properly,and obviously I didn’t do anything logical like put them all into a particular FOLDER or something. Fsssss.  Not bloody likely.

What this means is over the past few weeks…….I’ve been trying to find things.

Like, these jeans.

I love these jeans. And I literally ended up typing the word JEAN into my inventory search and going through every pair of jeans I own until I found these.

It is from a shop that to the best of what I could tell from the creators pics, is called VERONICA. If you like them, drop me a NC in world and I’ll toss you what I BELIEVE Is the landmark. Helpful aren’t I?

Creators – help us out. Product names should include your store name. Somehow, even in abbreviation. And – PUT YOUR STORE IN YOUR PICS CLEARLY. It’s fine if you also list how your pool boy is your slave but the Master of your dog-eared boy Friend who is the slave of the owner of another store….

but, help us with the naming so that when we do go to reference you, you stick in our minds and we don’t have to puzzle you out.

Here Be Colors

Micah Kanto is an adventurous designer, exploring shape, color, texture and ranging from sweet floral femininity to avant garde exploration of the extremes of fashion. With the three short summer dresses recently released by Modern Gypsy, the avenue for exploration was color and pattern. I love the bright summery boldness of the batik print with tribal inspirations. And sure enough, while looking at other constructions by the SL sim artist Glyph Graves, I found a sculpture installation that is almost the kinetic expression of the dress.

The title of the exhibit is Here Be Creatures and it’s a constantly moving, shifting light show that can entertain and mesmerize. You can find it Arachnod here: Here Be Creatures.

There Aren't Enough Squeegees In The World

As a former resident of the white sands of the Gulf of Mexico I’ve watched in horror since the Deepwater Horizon exploded.  Were it not for the loss of life, both human and sea creatures, it’d be comic. With no plan and no quick resolution available, we have continued daily to watch the mess unfold and to listen on the radio to the communities of the Gulf beg us to please come spend our tourist dollars there.

There are jokes about the Exxon Valdez. I guess some day there will be jokes about this. I can’t imagine them, but they will exist. Maybe this all won’t seem so bad by then. I doubt it.

We lack the alchemy to reverse what has happened, and the science to swoop in and just STOP The leak. Continue reading →

Inis Caiseal

It’s so easy to find beauty in Second Life – and not just in fashion, but in the landscapes, the art, the music and the friendships. If you look for beauty, you will find it. If you look for wonder, you will find it. It’s that kind of seek and you shall find sort of place. Inis Caiseal is one of three contiguous sims that make up the Alchemy Immortalis archipelago.  Despite knowing it makes me sound inane, I have to confess I love the word archipelago. It has such a funky sound to it. Raise your hands if you like how some words sound irrespective of their meaning!

OKay, to the business at hand – showing off the gorgeous new jacket from L’Abel.  More accurately, it’s part of a suit that includes some quilted knee-length shorts. I am not a great lover of shorts or quilted bottoms of any sort, but adore the structure of the jacket. This is a must have in every color – it’s beautifully formed and carefully made and I love it! The only thing that would make it more perfect is to have the option of a prim for the jacket’s bottom in addition to the system skirt. Then it could be worn with system skirts or with pants. Flexibility is always a win in my book.

Party Dress

Gidge & I had a party on Saturday and we really need to have parties more often. It was a lot of fun. I wore this gorgeous new dress from  L’Abel that is perfect party wear. It’s got that frilly skirt that is perfect for dancing since it covers up all the funny dance positions our animations can bring us to, but it’s nice and short to show off the dancing shoes.
