As a former resident of the white sands of the Gulf of Mexico I’ve watched in horror since the Deepwater Horizon exploded. Were it not for the loss of life, both human and sea creatures, it’d be comic. With no plan and no quick resolution available, we have continued daily to watch the mess unfold and to listen on the radio to the communities of the Gulf beg us to please come spend our tourist dollars there.
There are jokes about the Exxon Valdez. I guess some day there will be jokes about this. I can’t imagine them, but they will exist. Maybe this all won’t seem so bad by then. I doubt it.
We lack the alchemy to reverse what has happened, and the science to swoop in and just STOP The leak.
But what we do have is the ability to contribute in our own way. On the grid a fundraiser has been set up, which by now you probably have heard of – OPERATION SQUEEGEE.
The bikini I am wearing is available from one of the kindest creators on the grid – SYSY and is her item that is raising funds for OPERATION SQUEEGEE. If you go to the website, there is a list of events, bloggers who will be blogging the stores donating as well as lots of other good info.
If you don’t feel comfortable donating to an SL Fundraiser because OH MY GOD I KNOW THAT GIRL AND SHE SAID SHE HAD CANCER AND THEN SHE CAME BACK or whatever….you can ALWAYS donate to the American Red Cross. Also, remember DAWN dish soap is what is favored to use to clean the animals and sea life. Every bottle of DAWN you purchase is good for a one dollar donation – see here for details. All you have to do is activate it.
We don’t have a lot of power. But we have some. And I’m always so proud of us when we use it for good.

And yes, you can surf in the Gulf. When it’s not covered in oil. And usually only when there is a hurrican coming………..
