Etheria

I know Gidge blogged this lovely combination for Etheria just the other day, but I did choose a different color – going for Copper all the way. The dress is Fae from Lark and the coordinating jewelry from Dark Mouse is also called Fae.

The fun thing is that Faery Sola who knows a thing or two about fae, just sent me some new poses from her Studio Sidhe and I just had to shoot it all together. By the way, if you’re like me and don’t know much about faery realms beyond what’s in the Harry  Dresden books, I asked how to pronounce Sidhe and will let you all now that it’s pronounced like she which strikes me as really cool for some reason.

Wingless Fae

posted by Gidge Uriza

The Collaboration between Lark and Dark Mouse brings us FAE in gown and jewelry – a gorgeous set that truly screams for me to put on some wings.

And did you know I used to be a Fairy? I did!

But none of my wings matched.

And I’m lazy.

So I didn’t go wing shopping.

But Lizzie did.

The gown and jewelry come in multiple tones each complimenting the other – I chose to wear gold because I was having a very blonde day and my blonde girl likes gold.

These two pieces are offered at the Etheria event which is still going on until the 20th . Continue reading

Water Baby

Astrologically, I am a fire sign – an Aries. But I have always been a water baby at heart – I grew up on a lake, spent untold hours canoeing miles of rivers in the NorthWoods and love the sounds of water. I have been blessed to hear the breaking up of the ice on the lake as the waves smash it into ever smaller shards on the shore – creating the sound of thousands of glass wind-chimes ringing as the shards clash against each other and the rocks on the shore. I love the sound of waves, the roaring of waterfalls and the lonely cries of loons resounding over the water. One of the joys of Second Life is replicating the sounds of my childhood – though I have yet to find anyone who has recorded the ice breaking up or the snap and growl of the ice in winter.

Chloe in Etheria

posted by Gidge Uriza

The Etheria event is a perfect melding of girly goodness in my world. Gorgeous clothes and jewelry – really? FABULOUS.

The collaboration between Carolines and Ingenue brought together vintage styling with some gorgeously imagined jewels to enhance them,in coordinating or complimentary  colors.

I love the realism of the boning textured into the bodice of this gown. Hoists the girls up – just like in RL! Continue reading

When the World Has a Broken Heart

Offshore Oil Rig in the ANWR sim of Second Life.

I have found myself fast-forwarding or muting the coverage of the British Petroleum oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico because if I see those pictures of dead fish, dying birds and a mortally wounded eco-system I start to cry.  I am not alone, many people are unable to watch without falling into despair. Usually in a disaster, people react with urgency and energy – full of things to do to help, but this time we are in over our heads – literally and metaphorically. We are dependent on the expertise and equipment of unreliable people – a company with a proven record of lying to us and to the government.  Even the best experts in the field don’t know how to fix it quickly and so we watch this strangling of our southern shores with helplessness and broken hearts. It is our helplessness that makes us despair and for our own spirits we must find things we can do to help. That’s why I am excited about Operation Squeegee.

In addition to changes to the regulations that govern off-shore drilling, stronger and more active oversight, development of clean-up and disaster expertise within the government and prioritizing alternative energy sources and conservation, we can support with the sisyphean efforts to cleanup and restore wetlands. Many SL merchants will be participating and events are being planned.  For more information, go to the Operation Squeegee website.

The Secret Garden

Happy Mood is such a delightful store. It’s hard to describe because it sells such a mix of items, but if you want one word,  it’s a store that sells whimsy. Whimsy is the defining word for the secret garden at Happy Mood – a multi-level mixture of culvert tunnels, trees, flowers and fun. When I put on this fun Vive La Bohome dress from Modern Gypsy, I immediately though of whimsy and that made me go to Happy Mood for the photos.

The Wheat! The Wheat!

Long ago and far away I read a book  called The Octopus by Frank Norris – a story of the exploitation of the wheat growers of California. It’s central truths, though, were as applicable to the farmers of the Midwest that I knew and their history that lead to the creation of the Grange and the Farmers Union – so I have a soft spot in my heart for that book, even though it is not very well written. One of the most memorable things about the book for me were the occasional bits of expository meanderings that began “The Wheat! The Wheat!” I saw those four words and knew it was here-we-go-again time.  “The Wheat! The Wheat!” has forever been able to send me into a fit of giggles ever since. So, of course, this post featuring the lovey butterdish sim and this glorious combine has that phrase running through my head.

You might wonder what wheat fields and countrified clothing have to do with Adam n Eve’s glorious gold metallic skin  with the face a motherboard must love, but I posit that for a wheat farmer, the techno-riffic skin is a better match than the League’s booty shorts – no matter how cute they are with the paint splatters and the too long pockets. Threshing is dusty scratchy work and anyone operating a combine in their right mind would wear long jeans. Farming, on the other hand, demands an immediacy of information that makes farmers some of the most wired people you can find and that skin is wired.

I Knew A Girl Named Ysenia

posted by Gidge Uriza

I used to work with this girl named Ysenia who was Cuban. Except, I lived in Tampa – and in Tampa you say SPANISH when you mean Cuban.

So let’s start over. I used to work with this girl named Ysenia who was SPANISH. She wasn’t very girly, she had long straight hair that she pulled back, and she wore her brothers old clothes and really, she made butch girls look girly. I liked her a lot and ate lunch with her frequently, and during lunch she’d taunt me about being such a girly girl and the fact that at that time, I changed my nail color more than some people changed their mind. Mènage á Trois

Well, don’t tell their spouses and partners, but I think that Saschi Vixen of Adam n Eve, Sissy Pessoa of Baiastice and Chance Greatrex of DARE must have had at least a mental mènage á trois because their creations work together so perfectly. When I saw the Adam n Eve Chrome skin I immediately thought of Baiastice more avant designs with a futuristic edge. Putting them together, I knew I wanted a different aesthetic for the poses than the usual and pulled out DARE’s magnificent homage to the art of Robert Longo. I love what the three create together in the pictures I shot at Omega Point. I shot most of the poses in the set if you care to click through to see the rest.
