Why Get Dressed?

Slips seem like relics from the ancient past to me. I can’t remember the last time I wore one or owned one in real life. I might have to actually buy one, because strolling around in this slip dress from THE ICING the past few days has made me totally nostalgic for the more delicate types of lingerie, the opposite of the Fredericks Catalog. Etheria has Returned, This Time With Painted Ladies

The ETHERIA Event has opened up as of yesterday with a theme of PAINTED LADIES to challenge the creators participating. Think, old west harlots of the elegant sort.

Ladies to the manner born, as it were. Continue reading

New Year's Eve Eve

Alicia Chenaux had a New Year’s Eve EVE party and I had a new outfit so I went over. Between the talk of wieners and what we’re looking for in them (my vote, tasty) it was a great time and so I thought I’d shoot what I wore since you still have time to snatch it up for yourself for a proper NYE party.

Look at this bird. WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON WITH THIS BIRD? I have no idea I’m kind of scared of it. Continue reading

Thinking Of A Reason

Sitting on the doorstep of the house I can’t afford
I can feel you there
Thinking of a reason well it’s really not very hard
To love you even though, you nearly lost my heart
How can I explain the meaning of our love?
It fits so tight, closer than a glove Continue reading

Shape Up for the New Year

“A Novel, in the end, is a container, a shape into which you are trying to pour your story into.”
~Helen Dunmore

I do admit I was very resistant to getting a new shape last year because I’d had mine forever and I love it and it was MEEEE and yadda yadda yadda.

But then, I tried on my shape made by Hybie of Savoir Faire (and our newest contributor here at IOF) and I fell in love. It’s amazing what a difference a shape made by someone with a brilliant eye for proportion and a great fashion sense can make. Continue reading

Donna Flora released some beautiful gowns before Christmas that may have stuffed a few stockings since they were transferable. The gowns are called Faith and come in five fabulous colors. This one is Argentina – with its splashes of silver.

Merry Christmas, Baccara Rhodes

Baccara Rhodes_006

In Oregon, there are all sorts of buildings, streets and villages named after our pioneers. If we did that in Second Life, surely there would be many towns, sims and maybe even an ocean named after today’s guest stylist. Second Life launched on June 23, 2003 and just a little over a month later on July 10th, Bacarra Rhodes rezzed in-world for the first time.  In the book, Second Life: The Official Guide she is even designated The Grid Queen.

When I saw her gorgeous purple ball gown I wanted to shoot at Wanderstill on the Ode sim which reminds me so much of Monet with its lush abundance of flowers. I also used Elysium Elide’s windlight settings to give me that saturated rich purple sky.

It's Too Big

1216_006

Gidge has had been having me help around the store, hauling stuff over from the old one, dusting, doing some touch up on the walls where movers scraped the paint and helping with the unpacking. It’s a messy job with lots of running in and out of the building over to where her merchandise was piled up in the snow. It made sense to dress for the occasion in this warm and snuggly fleece from Aitui. I tossed on some old jeans from Zaara that I know are a few years old and all, but hey, when you are bending down and hauling crap around, you need comfortable jeans with some give, the kind of give that only comes from wearing them for a few years, right?

But then she traipses off to ride a pink turtle or pig or elephant or some such thing leaving me to manhandle the last few items into place. Seriously, did she think I could move that globe by myself? It’s Too Big!!! So, I got on the phone, so to speak, and called up Hybie who, good friend that she is, came over to lend a hand no questions ask. She helped wrestle that globe from the crate into the store and didn’t even complain about how cold she must have been feeling in those sandals. She was wearing the new dress from Maitreya. It was the first I had seen it in-world. It so lives up to expectations. As you can see, my feet were far more cozy in these wonderfully warm and dry boots from FIR & MNA.

Grazia Horwitz: A Fangirl Tribute

It doesn’t matter how many posts you get under your belt (according to WordPress I have 1037), those who were veterans and went before you remain the people you look to from time to time as not only a touchstone, but as a reminder of how to do it.

I met Grazia Horwitz when I mis-creditted a skin once a long time ago when I was a new  blogger.  She feared her friend Hart Larsson had been ripped, recognizing his work, and immediately contacted me.

I was TERRIFIED OMG GRAZIA IS MESSAGING ME AND OMG I MADE A MISTAKE OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG.

She wasn’t terrifying at all, actually, but I was so scared and embarrassed at the time. Continue reading
