Queen of Hearts:Part 2

posted by Gidge Uriza
The problem with blog-partnering with someone creative and talented is that sometimes, when you pick their brain – they send up more than one good idea. Aztec Queen of Eating Hearts was one great idea of Cajsa’s. But she also tossed out DOLLY! As in ….Hello……Dolly, Well Hello……Dolly.
Because, if you KNOW the story…….Dolly is the beloved matchmaker and mover and shaker of her day.

So Cajsa thought it might be fun to do an updated version – what would the modern Dolly look like? Well, first off – she’d have a hat. A great big flippin’ hat.  This hat from the Ethereal gown set of Sascha’s Designs is just the ticket. Continue reading

Feeding My Addiction

Addiction, a new gown at Sascha’s Designs, is another great formal gown by my favorite ballgown designer. With beads and gorgeous details this gown, as with almost all of Sascha’s works, comes witha  variety of skirt options so you can take it from the Cotillion where you dance with gentlemen of genteel natures to a modern formal event. It’s the SCD Prom tonight and I’ve chosen to wear Allure from Sascha’s Designs if for no other reason than I can change skirts about 52 times throughout the night. Ok, not 52. But several.

Shall We Dance?

Ok that’s a lie. Memorial Day weekend I’ll be recovering from surgery. BUT – in my mind I’ll be relaxing with a mimosa on Buffy’s yacht while Chad sales out for a lobster bake on the beach.

Cuz,that’s how real people live -right? Continue reading

Modern Mourning

This uber modern look (I enjoy using the word UBER without the umlauts to annoy others) was exactly the look I wanted to honor a friend and colleague who recently died in a car crash.

He was studying fashion design and my little hobby here eventually was outed by our frequent fashion and styling conversations as he was learning to create digitally for school.  Thus, a nonSLer became one of our readers because he was fascinated at the creations and how we styled them. Let Me School You:An SL Bug PSA

See that picture above? Now really look at it. Really look at it. Do you see what is wrong? No? How about now?

Nice Uber Modern Gloves?

Nice Uber Modern Gloves?

Sooo, what’s up with these gloves? They’re a little, whacky.

My initial thought was “hmmm weird gloves” but I really like Sascha the designer and thought well, she’s doing something wonky with gloves. Whatever I’ll go with it.

Then, after seeing my original post she was horrified, and let me know this dress does NOT have gloves. Seems I’d been hit by an SL bug, but Sascha had the fix. Continue reading

Date Night Pretty

When I was still little enough to play with Barbie’s, THE Barbie to have the year I was about 10 was SUPERSTAR BARBIE. Swathed in pink with ridiculously girly gown, flowing blonde hair and diamonds, SUPERSTAR BARBIE was THE ONE. Malibu Barbie was good. But she couldn’t hold a candle to the joy of unwrapping that 11inch doll box and seeing that pinky goodness swaddled in carboard.

YEAH I GOT ONE! WHAT’D YOU THINK THIS WAS SOME STORY ABOUT ME PINING FOR THE BARBIE I NEVER GOT? PFAH! AS IF!

What's in a name?

What’s in a name? That which we call ciabatta by any other name would still smell as tasty and wholesome when hot out of the oven. Okay, I confess I am so confused by the name of this gown from Sascha’s Designs that she will be releasing in several colors this week? It’s called Ciabatta and the only ciabatta I know of is the wonderful Italian sourdough bread.  This dress makes me think of many thinks, lakes, moonlight, flowers and romance. It does not make me think of artisan breads.  Okay, maybe a toasty brown version of this dress could be called ciabatta.

Don’t get me wrong. I love ciabatta. It’s soft and delicious and flavorful and has a hard, crunchy crust.  Yummy! But the bread is rustic and this is elegant. The bread should have a hard crispy crust, this is soft and satiny.  Ciabatta is light and airy and full of holes….aha!!!! That must be it!!!
