Shape Up for the New Year

“A Novel, in the end, is a container, a shape into which you are trying to pour your story into.”
~Helen Dunmore

I do admit I was very resistant to getting a new shape last year because I’d had mine forever and I love it and it was MEEEE and yadda yadda yadda.

But then, I tried on my shape made by Hybie of Savoir Faire (and our newest contributor here at IOF) and I fell in love. It’s amazing what a difference a shape made by someone with a brilliant eye for proportion and a great fashion sense can make. Continue reading

Merry Christmas, Reverie!

reverie_009

Reverie Boucher is a blog reader whom I met when she im’ed me with some good suggestions for outfits I might like to blog and introduced me to a store she liked in Second Life. Since then we have become friends and I have come to appreciate her suggestions as she has a great style of her own. Like me, she is happy to mix and match and showed that it todays’s outfit, taking the top of one dress from Baiastice and mixing it with a skirt to great effect.

The bold black lace and silver lines in this outfit made me want to shoot in China, though that alpha-ridden environment holds challenges for photos, but eventually everything was under control. Especially after she put on these hot shoes from N-Core!

Grazia Horwitz: A Fangirl Tribute

It doesn’t matter how many posts you get under your belt (according to WordPress I have 1037), those who were veterans and went before you remain the people you look to from time to time as not only a touchstone, but as a reminder of how to do it.

I met Grazia Horwitz when I mis-creditted a skin once a long time ago when I was a new  blogger.  She feared her friend Hart Larsson had been ripped, recognizing his work, and immediately contacted me.

I was TERRIFIED OMG GRAZIA IS MESSAGING ME AND OMG I MADE A MISTAKE OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG.

She wasn’t terrifying at all, actually, but I was so scared and embarrassed at the time. Continue reading

Collabor88tors

Dec10_001

Gidge and I did a bit of shopping yesterday morning with running stops at Fifty Linden Friday stores and ending at Collabor88 where we both felt like doofuses when we saw the second building full of items. I said, “How many times have I come here and never noticed there were two buildings? What a dork!” and Gidge, like me, said, “I never noticed it either.” While we both pondered what wonderful creations we may have missed in our neglectful visits in past months, we busily ran around picking stuff up. Of course, later we learned that it’s just this month that there’s the second build and we have not been missing out on half the collection every month! That makes me feel better. I saw a couch and Christmas tree there that I absolutely adored and wanted so much and for only 88 lindens I thought i could splurge – even though I don’t have a house to decorate. So I put it in my little photobox and slapped on a couple textures from Distressed Textures to make it look like i have a house and voila, there it is! There are five sits on the couch and three on the floor with a nice mix of feminine and masculine poses.

This tree made me laugh. It reminded me so much of this fabulous dried tree branch I used to have that I painted white and potted in a vase with some cement. It arched over my couch at a nice safe height, just high enough to not snag your hair even in an updo. I left it mostly plain except for a few epiphytes, but at Christmas would string it with white lights. I loved it, unfortunately, so did the dog my former roommate babysat for her boyfriend. In the epic battle of dead tree versus 185 pound rottweiler, the tree lost.

My Morning Puzzle Was…Where Is My Shirt?

This morning I was confused. I knew exactly what shirt I wanted. I couldn’t recall having WORN it though. But I knew I had it, and it was perfect for a half day at work and I had it all planned what I was going to wear.

As I stumbled around in the early AM it came to me. This shirt was from Miamai.

Kismetomatic

dec04_003

The Second Life Kismetomatic aligned this weekend with Kunglers releasing a top that was clearly destined to be worn with the newest pantsuit released by Baistice. Could those colors be more perfect? The Kunglers top is just the merest hint darker. It’s one of the things about Second Life that just makes me smile.

Feeling Nostalgic

dec01_003

This is the fourth annual Peace on Earth hunt. Blogging about the Hunt makes me remember my first year in Second Life and the POE1 was the first gridwide hunt that I had participated in. I remember reading about it beforehand and wondering how they would do a gridwide hunt – did that mean I had to look everywhere? Yup, I was that doofus! It was fresh and exciting and so much fun to hunt with Gidge, running all over the place, cracking wise and having good times. I remember how we would go to lucky chairs to wait and actually talk in chat. We even had lucky chair parties! This made me remember Digit Darkes and how much Gidge and I looked for her every new release, racing to be there to see what was new! She’s left the grid and I have packed up almost everything, but not everything. For this post, I pulled out a couple favorites to mash up with a dress from 1 Hundred for the 4th Annual Peace on Earth Hunt. The dress is adorable, but it’s chilly and I have been battling a head cold and for some very bizarre reason, I want my avatar to be nice, warm and comfy, so I didn’t want to wear a sleeveless mini – no matter how adorable. I decided to take off the skirt and add some pants and a jacket.

Walking in a KittyCats Winterland

nov30_014

Oh yes, the season is upon us. That wonderful season of peace on earth, goodwill toward man (so long as he isn’t between you and the two dollar waffle iron). In Second Life, it’s the season for the Peace on Earth Hunt, advent calendars and wintry sims full of joy and generosity. Today the Peace on Earth Hunt begins with over 200 participating stores crafting delightful surprises that they have cleverly hidden in their stores. Because it’s such a massive hunt, stores were required to place the hunt item within 40m of the sign and hints are provided on the official blog, so rest assured that you can make your way through the hunt while still keeping the wonderful seasonal spirit of joy and celebration.
