Whimsy at Linden Endowment for the Arts

LEA13

I put on this dress from Donna Flora and loved the whimsical fabric choice. This inspired me to leave my box and head off in search of a fun, whimsical place to shoot. I started at Linden Endowment for the Art by opening my map and entering LEAin the search window starting with 1. By the way, LEA1 is gorgeous, just not whimsical. Anyway, I ended up at 13 where I fell in love. I was so excited I mass broadcast a SLURL to everyone  online telling them I found a great sim if they wanted to check it out. Several folks showed up for a peek, enough to make me crash.

And some of us danced! Yay for mesh skirts that skipped along with us. As you can see, Gidge and I, completely by coincidence, wore the same dress – and look very different. She’s wearing a much more classic feminine style while mine is casual and playful.

Third Time Is the Charm

Arcade & Collabor88

It’s so funny that Acha, Gidge and I all independently decided to blog these gorgeous shorts from Ingenue today. I feel like I need to pull out a timestamp and say, b-b-b-but I shot them yesterday. But you know what? It doesn’t matter that we all wore the same shorts, if you look at these three posts they are all so very different. From Acha’s high camp to Gidge’s casual chic to my classic style, we all took a different approach to the same shorts and came up with very different looks. You can find the shorts in several colors at Collabor88 and they are a don’t miss item.

Quietude 2

Sept12_016

When I was wearing that gorgeous purple dress yesterday, I thought this fabulously chic coat that will soon be released by Drift would go so well with it. Certainly, I would wear the two together in a heart beat. The pumpkin of the coat is complementary to the wine in the dress and they would be a natural color combination. Alas, even pairing a large coat with a XS dress, parts of the dress came through in the back and in the elbows. Sure, I could shoot pictures with straight arms facing forward, hiding those flaws, but then as soon as you wore, you would know that the pics were misleading. So the coat needs to be worn with system clothing – a good reason to save the best of your system clothes despite the switch to mesh.

Quietude

Sept12_005

My downstairs neighbor is up to something! I don’t know what but it involves implements of sonic torture — hammers, electric drills and power saws. I tried to distract myself with television and music, but if noise is what’s bothering you, more noise will not cancel it out. It just creates a cacophonous clash where the beauty of the music and the thread of the story are lost. I held my cat for awhile, his upper body resting on my shoulder sheltering one ear with the comfort of his purring, but the electric drill sent him scurrying to hide in the closet. I finally decided to log into Second Life® and shoot some pictures. I had picked up this gorgeous leather dress from MichaMi at The Dressing Room and needed to get it in the can. Because I wanted to shoot it with a coat, I wanted to find a fall sim and checked out Izzie’s – and that is where the magic happened.

A Unique Problem Tinting My Skin HUD

sept11_004

The minute I saw the vendor ad for her newest release on Milla Michanga’s timeline, I knew I had to have it. I hurried to the store and picked it up in a couple colors because it is such a flattering style and one that looks like it might layer well with jackets. It has a beautiful bodice and softly ruffled skirt in a nice light cotton knit with a snug torso in a waffle knit of the same color. The contrasting fabrics give it a slightly sporty look, but that does not mean you can’t dress it up with accessories if that’s your whim.

The Crazy Cat Lady of Second Life

Play With Me Kitty!

Look, I still like my Kittycats. I stopped caring a long time ago about their value or rareness of whatever whizbang trait they have. What I have left are special to me, presents from loved ones from the past or present, or from events like the SL bday events or holidays or something. I kind of quit collecting them except here and there, but truly what’s left, I love. Continue reading

That Top Is a Dress

sept09_002

I am wearing one of the many options for the new Nico dress from Maitreya. It comes in several colors and prints and has an easy summer style with its loose and breezy shape. It is, however, impossibly short for me. Of course, that makes it so very flexible. I could wear it with leggings as a dress or with pants as a top.

You Should Do the Harvest Hunt

aug31_005

Anyone who knows me knows that I do not like hunting for things. Not in RL or SL. I have labeled folders in both lives, labeled drawers and a place for everything and everything in its place. Even my clothes are hung in the closet in ROYGBIV order so I NEVER HAVE TO HUNT for things. So, when I think something is worth hunting for, you can count on it being worthy. And believe me, the skirt from Bilo for the Harvest Hunt is worth hunting for.

It was so worthy it motivated me to get out of my box and go look for a setting as pretty as it is. I found Water Horse. I think it’s worthy.

Paperwork

Aug31_012

Any regular reader of It’s Only Fashion knows that I am in love with playing with light and projectors in Second Life. I have also adopted the amazing PhotoTools skins from William Weaver that make the controls for Windlight, Depth of Shadow and other photo interfaces so much more accessible. He’s launched a new web site to share photo resources and tutorials all in one spot. If you’re serious about Second Life photographer, you should check out Paperwork Shows.

William Weaver has also made a few builds using projectors to create fabulous light effects. With extraordinary generosity, he has put four of those builds on Marketplace for free. This set was shot in his Edward Hopper build. They use a lot of prims, but they are placed with a rez box, so you can simply derez them when you are done.
