From Crucibles to Rainbows

Linden  Labs has made me very happy recently. They seem to have solved the infamous system skirt issue. Now I have been struggling with the system skirt problem since last November and according to the Linden who dealt with me on this issue time and again, the very first to report any such problem. I don’t know about that, but I sure know I was not the last. There are thousands of skirt glitch sufferers. But back to the happy news that system skirts are working again! Continue reading

Hunting for Apples @ Lemania Indigo

I know I posted only a little over an hour ago, but wanted to encourage you to join in the hunt for this luscious winter coat with the wonderfully vintage 40’s look. You have to find all 15 apples, but they are of a good size, easy to spot and she very kindly placed them more or less in numerical order so if you are missing one, you just need to focus your hunt near the numerically adjacent apples. It took me less than an hour and that included taking a swan boat ride – which ends with another freebie and a few trips on the ferris wheel.

I Have Gone Positively Dotty!!!

Conference participants tend to take one of two distinct fashion paths when attending a conference – the hyper-casual or the dressed to kick ass and take names approach. Last night seemed the time for the latter, so I chose a vintage style dress and added a bolero because it was a bit chilly. I truly accentuated the positive in this outfit with the hat, though. Mayan Hawaiian

It was a hot day today so I wore the lovely cotton Hawaiian print skirt from the O’Brien Goes Hawaiian set from Ingenue.  A nice crisp cotton can be so cool in hot weather and a vintage print like this one just says summer all day long. The set comes with a lovely short sleeve white cotton blouse, but I wanted a bit more spice than that. Lots more spice!

Looking through my tops, I found a few camis that would work, but still not spicy enough so I started trying on some of the dress tops in my orange folder, thinking that would really pop and sure enough, this top from SeVan’s Isabella dress was what I was looking for. Maybe I’m crazy, but I like it. Continue reading

Berry Big-shouldered Broads

Do you love old movies? One with powerful women playing important roles? Some of them are cruel, some are vicious, some are downright wicked, but they fight and they struggle and they are tough. Man, are they tough, those big-shouldered broads like Joan Crawford and Bette Davis. I love those big-shouldered broads! When I saw Chai’s Ginger Crush skin on my shape, I immediately thought of Joan Crawford and all those tough women and this outfit just naturally flowed from there.

I chose the Ingenue dress, Bonnie in Berry, because it had a strong vintage professional look like something Rosalind Russell would wear in His Girl Friday. The artilleri hair continues the vintage “We Can Do It” sentiment as to the sensible, though chic, shoes from Shiny Things. The jewelry from Chey’s is slightly too modern, but simple enough to squeak by. You can see more photos on my flickr

Big Yellow Taxi

When I heard AOHARU had a 50% off sale, I rushed to the store and bought the fat  pack of their leather rider’s jacket that I had been drooling over and then I had to wear one right away. A necklace would lie under the jacket, so I decided to wear a VOGART Pucci-inspired scarf with it. It had the same attachment point as the jacket collar, so i made a copy and attached it to the spine instead and then did some adjusting. Well, a LOT of a adjusting.

The scarf suggested my burnt orange cigarette pants from Ingenue and Storm Schmooz’s funky Rubba ankle boots. Some earrings from chicoco and the trusty bangles from Fresh Baked Goods and I was ready for a stroll through the Cannery.  I thought I might take a cab, but the cabbie was nowhere to be found.

Vintage Flowers

By Cajsa Lilliehook

I love orange, i love flowers and I love that soft retro blue – so how could I not love this dress? Ingenue specializes in vintage clothing and creatively uses some gorgeous retro prints. This dress has that lovely soft retro blue – like those old melmac plates my parents used for camping trips. I love that blue. It’s possible that if spiders were that color blue, I might even like spiders.

I put it together with wonderful stone earrings, necklace and bracelet from Swallowtail. If you love big jewelry with natural stones, simple and organic jewelry, Swallowtail is a must. They also have adorable felt dresses unlike anywhere else. Besides, it’s so much fun to shop there. Be sure to give yourself time to wander out and see all the animals. I added the lovely Periquita shoes that always suit a retro dress.

Paper Couture Challenge #2

Gypsy Silk by Paper Couture

Posted by Cajsa Lilliehook

When I learned that Free Spirit’s hair was free, I tp’ed over to take a look and found this striking angular cut hair – sleek and contemporary and oh-so-chic. Wanting to wear this hair, i decided to build my outfit around the hair – exactly backward from the way I usually think about what to wear.

I immediately thought of the fabulously sleek Paper Couture ball gown Gypsy Silk, but the formal gown was too dressy for traipsing around the grid – particularly as i was in an exploring mood — and that train would have gotten caught on the rose bushes. But darn it, I wanted to wear that top…see the rich textures and details and how sleek and slim-lined it looks – so perfect with that hair. Then there are those gorgeous puffy sleeves – that miraculously look right in pose after pose.

I added Kraftika’s #112 which is fast becoming my favorite set of necklace and earrings and the nice silver bracelet from +plus..and i was set if you didn’t look below my waist. <grin>

And then i began putting on pair after pair after pair of black and grey pants trying to find the perfect ones. I wanted smooth, tight and sleek pants, no bells, no wrinkles, no big zippers and seams. Before i got completely frustrated i remembered the cigarette pants from Ingenue and sure enough, they were perfect. To complete the them of sleek and chic, the well-crafted Florence boots were an absolute must.

So, here it is – a look based on a hair style – and another example of using Paper Couture’s lovely clothing in new ways – refuting the criticism that their clothes are not practical once more.

Ingenue’s wonderful Tricky Little Wicky in Watermelon found @ RFL. Irresistible as watermelon is my favorite fruit and one of my favorite colors, too. Soft, feminine and floaty – a perfect spring dress. All due respect to Torley for his dedication and his hard work making Second Life better for all of us, but I have to say this. Torley!!! this is watermelon!!! That color you call watermelon. It isn’t watermelon.
