For the past four year my friend, Harper Ganesvoort, has put on a fun photo contest focused on the true highlight of the Academy Awards – the fashion. This is a very different contest from most in Second Life. It’s a contest sponsored by an individual out of enthusiasm for the art and fashion of Second Life, not by an event seeking to build interest or a store promoting its business. There’s nothing wrong with those contests, but there’s something tremendously right about a contest just for the pleasure of it. You can post entries on Flickr or KoinUp and the rules are very simple. Whether you enter or not, you should definitely take a look at the fabulous fashions.

C is for me…
A friend game me my initial letter for Christmas, so I had to take it out for a spin. It seems just camp enough for this fun little outfit I put together with the new bodysuit from Chantkare and the mesh mini from Mon Tissu.
Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me
I can’t light up no more of your darkness.
All of my pictures seem to fade to black and white.
Oh, I’ve grown so tired and time is standing still before me.
It froze up right here on the ladder of my life.
My Morning Puzzle Was…Where Is My Shirt?
This morning I was confused. I knew exactly what shirt I wanted. I couldn’t recall having WORN it though. But I knew I had it, and it was perfect for a half day at work and I had it all planned what I was going to wear.
As I stumbled around in the early AM it came to me. This shirt was from Miamai.
WRONG LIFE. Continue reading
Remember That Time I Blogged Things?
Cold weather does nothing but inspire me to skin pixel animals and wear their furs and hides for my own comfort. In RL I don’t believe in wearing any animal I don’t eat – that seems reasonable to me, but in SL I’d skin your baby unicorn and wear it with glee.
Now, someone make me a unicorn leather jacket. Baby Unicorn please. and like, make the buttons out of the horn or something equally horrible. Continue reading
SL Weekly Words Challenge – AUTUMN
To me autumn always means the launch of the spookiest time of year, in the month of my birth. It’s absolutely my favorite time of year. I cannot get enough of the macabre or creepy and am constantly drawn to everything haunted and spooky. Continue reading
Getting out of the studio
Having spent the past week watching runway shows and snapping pics mainly in my Glow Box, it was fun to get out of the studio and snap pics in-world again. You will be seeing them soon, these were shot on the 4th before Modavia Fashion Week and busy, busy, busy days. I love the casual outfit and the gorgeous top from Malt and have been eager to share it with you.
Modavia Fashion Week 2011.14
One of the reasons I love Modavia Fashion Week is that the process of preparing a collection for a show is far different than preparing weekly or monthly releases. Releases can stand on their own and how one outfit relates to another is immaterial. A collection however demands that the pieces work together to form an integrated whole. Strangely enough, by adding the constraint of making the clothes work together as a while, we get more innovation and imagination from the designers, not less. Sometimes, it take limits to free the imagination. That’s why we often get such fresh and extraordinary designs in runway shows. The designers’ imaginations have been set afire by the need to create 12 designs that express a singular vision.
Monica Outlander, the genius behind MiaMai, is perhaps the best exemplar of this at work. Her runway shows are highly anticipated and filled to capacity because everyone knows it will be a show, an extravaganza of art, music and design coming together synergistically. Synergy is such an overused term, but only because people use it recklessly as though cooperation and coordination were synergy.
Modavia Fashion Week 2011.12
I love the new collection from Gizza released at Modavia Fashion Week on Thursday. It’s full of great fall pieces and my favorites are the swing coats such as this one and the one below.
Modavia Fashion Week 2011.10
Applonia Criss of Chantkare knows prints and can match them better than anyone. She has a bold palette and paints with an assertive, confident brush. This gorgeous skirt and top are perhaps the most subdued in her collection for Modavia Fashion Week, but the quiet details won my heart. I love the skirt sculpt with the the ribbon edging and trim and the gentle gathers. And green is my favorite color!
