Pink Shirt Day:How Bullies Made Me Gidge

posted by Gidge Uriza

When I was in High School, I was plagued by being smart enough to take classes ahead of my own grade level. My sophomore year I ended up in a Senior Level biology class, and had this misfortune to take a seat in the midst of three jock bullies on day one of class.

I should’ve known, should’ve switched seats when I heard one of them whisper “This chick looks smart, let’s get her at our table she can do all the work.”

And our teacher, intimidated by the fact that at 17 years old these mongrols were man sized – turned the cheek as week after week they harrassed and bullied me.  They would steal my work and copy it, break anything of mine they could get their hands on. They’d pull stools out from under me so that I’d fall when I tried to sit down, poke me with pins so that I would move my arm that they could copy my work.

But the most annoying thing they’d do, believe it or not, was call me Gidget at first and then after weeks passed – Gidge. Oh my god their neanderthal brains thought that this was hilarious – as my RL name is Bridgette. THE SHEER WIT OF IT NEARLY COLLAPSED THEM WITH LAUGHTER. Continue reading

Sascha's Waterfall – No Need to Chase It

posted by Gidge Uriza

Sascha Frangilli of Sascha’s designs dropped her gorgeous WATERFALL ball gowns on me like two weeks ago, but my ongoing pregnant sloth has kept me from bringing them to you in a timely manner.

So – I thought I’d start by showing you the gorgeous limited edition GOLD color that made me drooool when I put it on.

I can actually hear the rustle of this fabric – and if you ever wore a big girly formal to a dance I bet you can too. There is a sound, a whooshing rustling sound that taffeta, chiffon and even silks made when you are wearing yards and yards of them. The weight of them as they brush past other dresses, or while you dance, makes them give off a sound that is probably indiscernible to anyone but the girl wearing it.

It’s kind of fantastic. Continue reading

Not Quite as Big Hair

Well, Gidge beat me in the Big Hair Olympics – but I think this is a contender.  It’s a style I love from Detour and is called Torrid – a good name because it does seem to just scream torrid, doesn’t it? I like it because it’s full enough and curly enough that it obscures some intersections that inevitably happen and it’s just plain sexy. With it I am wearing a great little top/dress I picked up at the Clothing Fair from Morea Style.

In Lieu of Baking a Casserole…..

posted by Gidge Uriza

Where I come from, when someone has a death in the family, their friends, neighbors and family come with cakes and casseroles to stock the pantries and fridge so that the mourning don’t have to even consider food -it’s just there ready and waiting.

If you follow me on Plurk you know that over the past month I’ve dealt with the ongoing drama of a 18 year old 4 legged feline member of my family who I loved more than I realized. But as things progressed Silo and I did everything we could do to keep her with us – and in the end, Tuesday to be exact – her 18 years caught up with her and now we’re left to mourn that little ball of fur.

5th and Oxford dropped me the Jori skirts and shirts that same day I plurked about my loss an grief, with the kindest note – saying she knew that some digital threads wouldn’t make up for my loss but that she was thinking of me.

I think it’s a great testament to the community we have amongst one another – we Fashion Mafia members. (yeah you’re a member, don’t act innocent. I see you). Continue reading

Spring Comes Casually

posted by Gidge Uriza

Sascha Frangilli of Sascha’s designs dropped this festive pack of corsets and pants on me a while back, and I’ve been holding out till it warmed up in my RL and I could FEEL the spring fun when I wore them.

Yesterday, that day arrived!  The tops come with a layer option which has straps, but since gravity requires straps in RL – I chose STRAPLESS in my Second existence – ROCK THE FANTASY GIRLS! Continue reading

A Trip Around the World

Can I just say I love, love, love the themes of this year’s Relay for Life Clothing Fair? It was wonderful to travel round the world from New Delhi (shown here) to Paris to London and Tokyo and on to 8 of the world’s great cities. I also liked that the fashions more or less suited the locations. Lots of punk fashions in London, silks and saris in New Delhi, swimwear in Rio and so on. OF course, not all the clothes are location-specific – people often design a wide array within one clothing line. Nonetheless, the subtle changing fashions from sim to sim were wonderful to see.

My outfit came from different stores on different sims, but I thought New Delhi was the perfect place to wear it. It’s a mix of Indyra Originals and INDI Designs and in the folder of items I purchased at the Clothing Fair happened to sit next to each other alphabetically. How fated is that?

A Universe in Your Hand

As the Accessory Fair opens on this beautiful Saturday morning, I am thrilled to be featuring the Hera Earrings and Cocktail Ring from Abraxxa Anatine of EarthStones. I remember some several months back that she told me she was going to do something really crazy, that she always wanted to do. Abraxxa is one of those who doesn’t give hints, though, so it was not until she finished the ring that she shared the story of seeing this amazing ring that she fell in love with and lusted for. Like most of us, though, the $26,000 price tag made her jaw drop and made that dream unattainable – until she decided to make it for herself in Second Life®. Luckily for all of us, she has also made matching earrings and not only are these gorgeous, extraordinarily detailed masterpieces available they are not $26,000 or even 26,000 lindens. As you can see, the pieces consist of five constellations of diamonds around a central clusters of gems and  inner suns of citrines and topaz – a veritable cluster of solar systems – an entire universe to adorn yourself.

Mix N Match Fun:Inspired by Fun New Hair from Simply Britnee

posted by Gidge Uriza

I got this fun new hair from Simply Britnee – Bday 2 – and after trying on every single colour I was feeling the brunette within me. Plus, I had this sudden urge to dig in my inventory and see what shook out.

I AM Able To Wear These Boots Clothed, Also

The high waisted skirt from Luck Inc put me in a piratey sort of mind and it was a short walk to a piece from Indyra Originals – part of her Armada outfit. I just needed the blouse.  I was going to wear the jacket but I was in more a poofy shirt kind of place. Continue reading
