Merry Christmas, Baccara Rhodes

Baccara Rhodes_006

In Oregon, there are all sorts of buildings, streets and villages named after our pioneers. If we did that in Second Life, surely there would be many towns, sims and maybe even an ocean named after today’s guest stylist. Second Life launched on June 23, 2003 and just a little over a month later on July 10th, Bacarra Rhodes rezzed in-world for the first time.  In the book, Second Life: The Official Guide she is even designated The Grid Queen.

When I saw her gorgeous purple ball gown I wanted to shoot at Wanderstill on the Ode sim which reminds me so much of Monet with its lush abundance of flowers. I also used Elysium Elide’s windlight settings to give me that saturated rich purple sky.

Merry Christmas Alicia Chenaux

Alicia Chenaux_003

I met Alicia Chenaux on Plurk, though I had read her blog for a long time before that. I should say blogs since she has a fun journaling blog where she chronicles her Second Life adventures as well as her fashion blog. I first began paying attention to her blog when she began her 365 Project which was such a huge commitment. I don’t know if I would commit to blog for a full year even after blogging for four years. For me, it’s so much easier to do something than to say I will do something, because then I really have to. I admire people who have the will to make that kind of commitment up front. I also admire the kind of openness and vulnerability that journaling blogs require. It, too, requires a commitment beyond what I would do.

I was looking forward to seeing Alicia’s outfit because she’s a former model and I knew that work history would translate into an impeccable outfit that was perfectly fitted. And I was right from every Elikatira hair on her head to the GField shoes on her feet, everything is perfectly fitted. Her outfit seemed perfect for sightseeing and wandering the streets in the fashionable city of Venice which you can find on the Prada sim. I could see her modeling skills at work as she positioned herself on the dock by the gondolas while I was flailing around in the river after falling off the dock a few times. In fact, I had to run inside one of the stores and dry off while she patiently waited.

Marketing 301 For Bloggers

Probably the most controversial subject for bloggers and blogger marketing is the relationship between bloggers and designers and review or promotional items that they may feature in their blogs. This is a topic fraught with misconceptions, angst, resentments and drama, so let’s just jump right in.

Let’s start with one of the most widely held misconceptions about bloggers – that they are motivated purely out of avarice, blogging solely in order to rake in free stuff from designers. As with any misconception, there’s a few grains of truth out of which people have made a whole loaf of error. It’s likely some people start blogging in hopes of raking it in, but they don’t last. Once they realize how much work and expense is involved in blogging, they quit. That’s why so many feeds, events and store review policies have a requirement that someone have blogged for three months or so – it winnows out the ones who are not motivated by love of fashion and blogging. You can look into Ful.io to get more ideas about how to make your blog stand out from rest of the others. Continue reading

Merry Christmas, Heidi Volare!

Heidi Volare_006

Heidi Volare may be familiar to blog readers as the author of The Fashionable Heart, but she graces us today as Guest Stylist. She has an easy, casual style that ranges from jeans and t-shirt to super-sexy club dresses, or as she referred to it, “the hoochie.” I don’t know, myself, I think she looks a bit too elegant for hoochie. She’s the perfect femme fatale.

Heidi Volare_001

Everybody knows that femme fatales haunt moody, eccentric and atmospheric nightclubs, so we went to Flashman’s, where Art Deco meets idiosyncrasy and one can imagine a thousand stories. I can imagine the “Lost Generation” idling here while arguing the finer points of  a sentence or Weimar Republic spies passing maps or world-class thieves planning their next caper around the hookah.

Merry Christmas, Mae Tabak

Mae Tabak

I did not know our blog was read by goblins, but it is. One of them even volunteered as guest stylist with all her goblin-ey goodness. So, gracing our pages again is the ungrinchified goblin Mae Tabak. According to the Uncyclopedia, Goblins like boggy areas so I thought it the fens at Zone might be a good place to shoot so we headed off to Zone where the giants walk. I figured if they got feisty, having a goblin around might be an asset. Mae was seasonally festive in a red and black dress from Sn@tch – the store where all the most discerning goblins shop. The textures are rich and the dress has those details that show care and imagination like the row of embellishment right under the bodice and the gracefully curving lines that flatter.

Merry Christmas KymSara

snowglobe

KymSara Rayna is our guest stylist today. I first met KymSara in-world at Ivalde where she works as a customer service representative and has for a very long time. I have come to appreciate her generosity with praise and comments on Flickr.  She dresses with a classic and simple elegance which is epitomized by the outfit she chose for this post.

Marketing 201 For Bloggers

In the ever-evolving landscape of online marketing, growing businesses are increasingly recognizing the significance of Search Engine Optimization experts to boost their visibility and reach a broader audience. Just as bloggers seek to enhance their blog’s exposure through social network marketing and other strategies, businesses also realize the value of SEO in improving their chances of reaching potential customers and generating leads. Partnering with skilled SEO professionals can help businesses implement crucial methods that will elevate their rankings in search results and drive organic traffic to their websites. Embracing the advice shared in this insightful post, bloggers can cultivate consistency, engagement, and authenticity while navigating the digital landscape with enthusiasm, patience, and positivity, if not you can still turn to SEO experts. So, dive into the world of SEO and watch your blog soar to new heights!

A few months ago, Gidge did an intro to marketing for bloggers seeking to get the world out about their blog on different social networks. That social network marketing is a critical portion of marketing your blog, particularly in its first few months before it gets added to any feeds. Once you have some history, though, it’s time to start taking additional steps.

Blog Consistently

People will get in the habit of checking your blog regularly if you blog consistently. This does not have to be everyday. It can even be just once a week, but then make sure you do blog once a week, not once this week and four times three weeks later. Make it habitual so people can count on you. If they visit your blog three times without finding new content, they will quit visiting.

Getting Syndicated.

Once you have been blogging for three months or so, it is time to apply to be added to feeds.  A feed aggregates posts from multiple web sites so people can look at the single feed instead of going to multiple websites. Most feeds will not add a blog that does not have 6 weeks or longer of sustained, regular blog posts.

Merry Christmas, Reverie!

reverie_009

Reverie Boucher is a blog reader whom I met when she im’ed me with some good suggestions for outfits I might like to blog and introduced me to a store she liked in Second Life. Since then we have become friends and I have come to appreciate her suggestions as she has a great style of her own. Like me, she is happy to mix and match and showed that it todays’s outfit, taking the top of one dress from Baiastice and mixing it with a skirt to great effect.

reverie_011

The bold black lace and silver lines in this outfit made me want to shoot in China, though that alpha-ridden environment holds challenges for photos, but eventually everything was under control. Especially after she put on these hot shoes from N-Core!
