Memento Mori

Aug04_007.jpg

Memento Mori is a specific art piece – in any style or genre – that has the specific purpose of reminding us of our mortality. It says “Remember you must die.” The gown I am wearing is called Ange (Angel) and its rose color and loving detail is more a celebration of life, I thought it might be interesting to shoot it in the white on white Memento Mori – a complex and stunning cathedral build all in white that is alive with light shining through the countless windows.

As a reminder of mortality, a cathedral is an obvious choice. It is where the rites of life’s passage happen from christening to burial, the parentheses of life. It also evokes the immortal promise of the sacred for those who share that belief. Generally, the immensity of a cathedral reminds us of our own insignificance as well as our mortality. The Memento Moril build at ChouChou V succeeds on all levels.

ChouChou Returns

Aug04_012.jpg

KWZ features the designs of Kariwanz Felisimo. AT KWZ you can find everything from the Victorian to the Post-Apocalyptic, from the Gothic to the CyberFuturistic. Yes, you can find everything except the banal. Her designs are fully imagined and well-executed with a total commitment to quality and detail. This Omega Dress, for example, has exquisitely detailed embellishments and embroidery and its texture has the sort of depth that makes you think you could feel it through the screen.

Aug04_011.jpg

I wanted a special place to shoot it and what could be more special than the newly opened ChouChou? ChouChou is not the easiest place to shoot – not only because they disallow building AND scripts so even pose HUDs won’t work, but because there are always so many people there. Thankfully Emerald has the Derender option and I was able to derender the dozen or more people around me. Continue reading

By the Shores of Gitche Gumee

Aug03_005.jpg

When I went to Grey Havens, I was reminded of the magnificent North Shore of Lake Superior – a favorite family vacation place. We always did at least one trip up the North Shore each year. Gitche Gumee was how Longfellow spelled Gichigami, the Ojibwe phrase for “Big Water.”  Having spent time on a research ship counting June Bugs and small fry on Lake Superior, I can tell you it is definitely Big Water.  I decided to go the Grey Havens to shoot the Isabella dress from ORTA because the fabric made me think of the North Shore’s Norway Pine & Blue Spruce and the granite shoreline.

Aug03_001.jpg

Although it makes me think of Lake Superior, Grey Havens has sea lions and whales so that’s saltwater, not freshwater, alas!  By the way, is it TMI to share that Mom had the Song of Hiawatha memorized and always recited big chunks of it while we drove up the North Shore to Grand Portage? Thankfully she never went through the entire poem in one sitting. I think that would take hours. Mom knew 100 or more poems by heart and made all of her kids memorize one poem a week.  My siblings are a generation older than me, and this ritual is one of the few things we have in common. Of course, she never made us memorize Song of Hiawatha as that is just ridiculous.

B&W Rock Opera?

Aug02_002.jpg

The Niven Collection by Scarlett Niven is primarily an exploration of the vast possibilities of black and white. Yes, there are a few items in the store with color, but by and large, the entire collection is a symphony in black and white. Actually, maybe rock opera is more accurate because the designs are very a la page. Symphony, Rock Opera? What do you think?

This dress I am wearing is called BodyCon and I am not positive what Con stands for but Body Conscious would be a good option. The always fashion forward styles of N-Core make a perfect alliance with Niven Collection clothing.

Another study in black and white is the romantic and stylized China sim – where visitors find themselves within a Chinese watercolor and ink painting.

An IOF PSA: How to Request Customer Service

aug01b_006.jpg

The BabyDoll Dress (Vintage) from House of Fox is a playful, fun summer dress.

I first saw this gorgeous BabyDoll Vintage dress on  the feed. I jotted down the name of the store (House of Fox) and when I next logged in I hopped on over there to get the dress. I am a sucker for vintage floral prints and the print is not only lovely, but I love the way the shape of the skirt and the beautifully made belt. I easily found the store in search and also fell in love with a few other things like the dress you saw yesterday. I was a happy camper until I put the dress on to go shoot photos for the blog and noticed there were no glitch pants and my cheeks were showing. More than my cheeks, but that’s what lingerie is for. However, lingerie did not provide the coverage I needed.  At that precise moment I was feeling a bit wrathful – particularly with the blogger for not pointing this out – but I have learned long, long ago that it’s never wise to ask for a repair or a fix in a wrathful mood, so I decided to wear something else and ask for a fix when I was less agitated. Sure enough, after a time I was calmer and realized that both the blogger and the designer may have been looking at and shooting the dress on a pose stand and not run around enough to see the flaw. And that, dear readers, is the first rule of requesting customer service. Always wait until you feel calm and collected before contacting the store. This is as true in the virtual as in the corporeal world.

Frolicking at the Akasha, Lost Paradise sim.

The pictures in this post were shot at Akasha the Lost Paradise – a lovely sim full of flowers and graceful ruins. So, now you can see from all the quite active Lost Angel Dance and Spring Fever poses I used in this post and the other pictures of the dress on my Flickr, this dress now has glitch pants. That’s because the next time I logged in I calmly and politely asked the creator to send me some. That’s the second rule of requesting customer service: Always make your request clearly and politely. Quick Look: I Gatcha

Poses from I Love Olive

posted by Gidge Uriza

Elusyve said I had to go to the Albero Gatcha Festival -and since she’s a fucking giant who might squashe me, I went.

She also said I had to wear everything I got immediately, which meant I was walking around wearing many boxes. I think this might’ve been some mean elf trick on her part.

But since I had never been to nor patronized any sort of gatcha, you know, like Ron Burgundy would say – WHEN IN ROME.

I can’t actually wear everything I got at once.

That just means there will be another post.

You lucky suckers………

Style Notes:

A Picnic at Third World

Jul20b_009.jpg

The new Picnic Dress from Haven Designs is a fun and cheery summer sundress that had me heading out for the outdoors. I love the field of daisies that begins lightly on the bodice and gets more intense as it goes down the skirt. The dress comes in seven summer colors with an additional blue limited edition for the Stumblebum Brigade.

Jul20b_001.jpg

I headed out to Third World to check out another corner for this shoot. Seriously, this sim is full of what you could call little set pieces or tableau that are perfect for photos while all working together cohesively.

Porcelain & China

jul29_004.jpg

When I saw the delicate tones of the new Baiastice skins in the Porcelain tone coupled with the delicacy of the lace jacket for this DCNY outfit, I knew exactly where I wanted to shoot – in China. Not the China of hustle, bustle and the Great Wall, but the watercolor China that you can find in the magnificent China sim.

jul29_009.jpg

This shot gives you just a small idea of the wonderful photographic opportunities you can find in China. I also played a little bit with perspective, using the CTL-8 lens change to the max to give it a shift in perspective.

It's a Dream

I had planned to shoot four of these gorgeous tops from Orage Creations but SL had other plans. It decided that despite all my plans, I would be a cloud for the day yesterday. Seriously, I tried clearing cache, restarting not just Second Life but also my computer and the SL, SL Beta, SnowGlobe, Kristens, Emerald and Emerald Beta viewers and despite it all, I stayed a cloud.  I finally resolved the issue about midnight, but I was not going to shoot photos that late, so I will have to be content with showing you just the gorgeous zebra Dream Top and let you check out the leopard, snake and fleur (b and white brocade) on your own.  The Orage Creations Main Store was closed for renovations this weekend, but the tops can be found at affiliates in Best of SL, Costa Rica and Saudi Arabia. For latest locations check Elettra Gausman’s profile

I shot this set at Third World – home of the Third World Bar and Third World Kino. It’s a beautiful sim with many tiny set pieces of surreality and beauty for you to enjoy.  To get a taste of the amazing scenes at Third World, take a look at the Flickriver stream of interesting photos shot there.
