Bandana Day 2012 – from Gidge

As Cajsa so eloquently put it, Hair Fair culminates today  in us taking off our hair to celebrate the beauty inside of us all.  Our hair is a mane that speaks to the world before we open our mouths, but how much more important is our character and person than that? A thousandfold.

It’s why I am ecstatic every year when Hair Fair occurs. Not because we love hair (we do). But because it’s about something bigger and more important than our hair do’s and blogger selves.

I want to thank Sasy Scarborough and her amazing team for once again putting on an event to be proud of, an event that speaks to us all and shows us that real beauty is more than the sum of our parts.

The beauty of a woman is not in the clothes she wears, the figure that she carries or the way she combs her hair.
~ Audrey Hepburn

Two if By Sea

Longfellow’s poem tells us that Paul Revere instructed the colonials to hang lanterns “one of by land, two if by sea” at the Old North Church in Boston. I’m not sure if this is before, after or during his ride warning, “The British are coming! The British are coming!” But it occurred to me, remembering this poem, that the colonials must have already considered themselves “other” to be referring to the advancing army as “The British”.  Continue reading

Meanwhile at Starfleet command

I am notorious for missing things. A floating necklace, a hand intersecting something, my hair stuck in my boob, or arm, or shoulder.  So you see, I took a lot of time with this post. I scrolled through most of Cajsa’s hair fair posts looking for which ‘do I wanted to wear. I had this heart ring from Callie Cline I wanted to wear and I’d been working up this romantical dreamy post all day.

It was going to be smooshy and lovey and say stuff about my heart and love, and be kind of emotionally swirly and if it was about you, you’d at least crack a smile and possibly a woody. Continue reading

Two Little Girls In Braids 2.0

There are two ladies that write for this blog who spent their childhoods with their long hair braided and wrapped around their heads. Their mothers would wrap their hair so tightly, that it would stay in place days if it needed to. I was one of those girls. I will give you a hint, the other one is a red head. Continue reading

Yukata Have Friends

Cajsa IMd me and said she knew I was going to love the hair at Hair Fair from Curious Kitties especially with all the crazy options on the HUD. She was right, I was in a dither playing but decided to show you this traditional up do with a modern flair right out of the box, because it’s my favorite color of green. Continue reading

The Truth about Vonda

One of my goals every year at Hair Fair is to find a new to me creator, and fall in love. This has happened every year without fail, and this year I found that it was GOTZSCHE that is in the running as one of my new loves, even though I’ve only complete two sims so far.

In a little modest booth with 3-4 styles, this little shop might be easy to pass by but I recommend you don’t.  I have a very strict routine at Hair Fair, I go into EVERY SINGLE BOOTH. Unless the sky parts and I scream KILL IT WITH FIRE I tend to demo something from every place. Normally I do this on blogger day, but I was having surgery that day this year, so it’s taking me a wee bit longer to get through.

Their style that grabbed at me at GOTZSCHE though – was named after one of the looming ghosts from my childhood – VONDA. Continue reading

Edit This!

Edit This

I got an offline message the other day that said, “Gidge Uriza has offered you ‘STATUS Edit This’ in Second Life. Log in to accept or decline the offer.” Hmmmm. I had to give her a call to find out what she was sending me to edit and what she wanted done, but it turned out that is the name of her new pose set she just released. I had to laugh, because truly, Gidge so loves to edit that I am surprised I haven’t received things with that name a hundred times. Anyway, I was reveling in my love for the new Mignon top from Ingenue, so I tossed on another color and then picked out this gorgeous skirt from coldLogic to wear with it.

You Can’t Buy This Skin

jul06_006

Gala Phoenix’s skin is known for its fragility and tender youthfulness.

One of the more popular and well-loved skin makers in Second Life is Gala Phoenix of Curio whose fresh-faced, youthful skins have won her hundreds, if not thousands, of loyal customers who anxiously await every release. Sadly, they will have to wait a long time. If you haven’t been on hiatus or sleeping under a rock, you have probably heard of the Hush-Curio controversy. I won’t repeat the details here as there are plenty of sources for information. I think the best is The Blogging Elf by Arica Storaro who captures the important details without any hyperbole, maintaining a calm, reasoned journalistic tone. Continue reading
