Well, not really, but you can make a blue moon in Windlight any old time and that’s what I wanted for shooting this lovely blue dress from LaLei. I used a photo box from LUST for this background. LUST photoboxes are fun little items and most are only 10L so you can’t go wrong. Anyway, after I recently received a review copy of the Flower Fever dress from LaLei that I blogged last week, I had to check out the store and see what else there was. Well, it’s a gown-lovers paradise and I only managed to walk out with just one purchase because I could not decide on one color for the other dress I wanted to get – so decided to be strong and come back when I made up my mind because I am trying to get my inventory under control. However, for this dress, the gorgeous blue was irresistible. In fact, this dress chased me around the store hollering “Buy Me!” when I tried to move on.

Quick Look: Hyper Culture
I shot these photos at the end of January – but misplaced them and forgot. Now how could that happen with such a lovely dress as this? I don’t know and have no excuses other than the fact that SL has so many great designs and great clothing that sometimes we drown in an embarrassment of riches. I love the gorgeous rich cordovan leather color in this dress and the bold bronze top-stiching. It’s a dress that says “Look at me!”
Enchantment
Sometimes there is a dress that enchants me. It is so new, so breathtakingly fresh that I just have to play and find different ways to look at it. It makes me experiment with my photos and hunt out places to shoot and just to see what more I can do because it’s inspiring in its originality.
Gelsomina from Donna Flora is just such a dress. I could not stop shooting pictures and have quite the collection on Flickr. First there’s the exuberant combination of lustrous gold in the underskirt, with layers of net, tulle, charmeus and silk ombre. Add the magnolias scattered over the dress and the hairdo that would make Madame Pompadour green with envy and you have a magical enchantment.
Glamour
Sometimes you just want to look glamorous – and there’s a lot of ways to go, but a little shimmer and shine can add up to lots of glamour in the right hands. This stunning gown from Mohna Lisa takes glamour to a new level with the radiant shimmer of the crystalline-edge tulle and the crystal beading on the bodice. In the palest champagne white, it has a rich luster that plain white lacks. It’s definitely a red carpet gown if there ever was one.
Glistening, Glittering Gown
Sascha Frangelli is known grid-wide for her gowns that are always extravagantly embellished, rich in detail and in options. You can wear anything from a mini cocktail to a door-bursting battleship gown. For me, I chose the narrow, sleek skirt.
It's Raining, It's Pouring
The Old Man Is Snoring!
It’s a bit chilly today with the rain and the wind, so I decided to wear something toasty. The lovely fur jacket from COCO is just the thing. Adding the high-waisted tuxedo pants which are a nice wind-resisting wool will keep me comfy and still chic.
Monster Jackets
There are some statement jackets in Modern Gypsy’s Fashion Monster collection. For example, this jacket from the Zhora pants outfit is an amazing piece of construction with shoulders that could conquer the universe if they set themselves to the task. Coincidentally, Newreem Waffles styled the same two jackets in her blog today, too – in a very different way, demonstrating how versatile these jackets are.
The jacket that comes with the powerful Hecate leather dress makes and equally strong statement – one of surprise and delight at seeing such a jacket chosen for such a noir dress. After all, when you hear black leather dress, a houndstooth wool jacket is not what pops into mind, but then Hecate is a dress of surprises.
Fierce Fashion
I know I have been featuring a lot of Modern Gypsy lately, but I think it’s clear by now that we are guided more by our tastes and whims than anything else. I love fashion that is fierce and uncompromising – that takes risks, that is sometimes outlandish. I love the avant garde, design that pushes the boundaries of form and function, but not the boundaries of taste.
Modern Gypsy is all that. Micah makes beautiful gowns and dresses. However, some of Micah’s collection is more than clothing, some are sculptures. You can see that quite clearly in these two very stylized pieces.
Let's Misbehave
We’re all alone, no chaperone
Can get our number
The world’s in slumber–let’s misbehave!!!
There’s something wild about you child
That’s so contagious
Let’s be outrageous–let’s misbehave!!!
While MiaMai’s new Venom dress doesn’t make me feel particularly poisonous, I thought it is definitely hot enough to lead to temptation – so let’s misbehave.
Now & Then
This is my newbie self and yes, I was fortunate. When I entered Second Life, one of the first people I met was an SL mentor named Lilien Jewell who took it upon herself to ensure that I didn’t look like a noob for long. My 3rd day in SL I purchased the RaC (now LAQ) skin Amy – that she helped me choose and had a decent shape. The white skirt is the second purchase I made in Second Life – after the skin. The swimsuit I got a day later. I thought I was so clever putting a skirt over my swimsuit. The shoes were from Shiny Things. I think I was in SL six months before I knew there were more shoe stores than X3D (Digit Darkes), Shiny Things and Enkythings. This is me at about a month or so. It’s not my first hair which was Brittany from Bewitched, but I deleted that in an inventory purge long ago. You might note I had no jewelry. I really had none. It took me forever, it seems, to find jewelery stores that suited my taste. I searched for jewelry, but it was all too too too beauty pageant princess for me, so I just didn’t get any. From the first, I knew that I didn’t want bling. I also had no lashes. I didn’t even know they existed. I should add that I wore this outfit most of the time. It was my “go-to” outfit for the longest time.
My shape is shorter, with a larger waist and smaller breasts. My face is softer with more of a smile. I still don’t wear bling, and mixing and matching outfits is an everyday thing. I still wear that Mandy hair from Muism – though for this I am wearing a favorite from Amrita. The shoes are Maitreya which has become a favorite of mine for shoes. Back then, I might not have realized that I could wear my boots without the calf prims and would not have worn them because the calf prims intersect the pants. Now I wear jewelry almost all the time – and it’s my worst Second Life addiction.
