The Sun

Gizza’s Sunburst Tutu

If you look real high
You just might find
Sitting in the stars
Glistening, glistening
Waiting for the band to come
Just waiting for that man to come
Oh, I wonder…

Gizza has made two sets of four tutus and it would take Solomon to choose the best of them. I wore this delightful Sunburst Tutu because I love its whimsy and the delicate, watercolor colors in the skirt.

Slip on down from that sun
To climb down to earth
And down to things like time
Because we are all, we are all just lovers
Born of earth and light like all these others

Hey there, I like your hair!

HF2012-Destination

Hair Fair 2012 opens at midnight and I am starting to sort hair for my blog posts featuring the different styles of hair you can find there. This event is to raise funds for Wigs for Kids.  Meanwhile, I thought I would share the map with you and some useful info on making your experience better.

  1. Join the Hair Fair Demo Group. You can copy and paste this into your chat window to join as well. You can set it so it doesn’t deliver and only save the demos you want if you’re afraid of being overwhelmed. Test the demos at home.
  2. Don’t worry too much about your aim when you’re walking around, most of the build is phantom so you can walk through walls.
  3. Take advantage of the pose balls to jump ahead.
  4. De-prim.
  5. Don’t render the other avatars by reducing the number who render in debug settings.  The default is 35, you don’t need to see 35 people, you want to see hair. Go to Advanced Menu (CTL-alt-D) and type in RenderAvatarMaxVisible. Lower it to something reasonable like 5. Don’t make it 0 because if you’re not rendered you can’t move. Now, if you can’t see them, you don’t need to care how much they’re wearing.
  6. Lower your graphic settings. Turn off atmospheric shaders, turn off the water reflections. Turn of particles and lower draw distance. Keep the mesh details high so you can see the hair, though.
  7. Turn on avatar imposters so even the folks who load are not fully loaded.
  8. Meanwhile, Darkley Aeon has kindly posted all the slurls to help guide your way.
  9. And then there is redelivery. I don’t know who is responsible for this innovation this year, but we all owe that person a big hug.

Redelivery Sign

Don’t you love how every year they find another way to make it better?

Bandana Day

bandana day_006

One of the great elements of Hair Fair is that it asks for more participation from us than just shopping, blogging or building. Each year, it asks all of us to take off our hair and don a bandana in solidarity with those who are going through cancer treatment and losing their hair. Hair is very precious to us. Most of us when asked to describe ourselves, start with our hair color Our hairstyles are our signs to the world, communicating our interests, tastes and values. When people lose their hair, that signifier that said they are chic, or sporty, or rebellious is lost and replaced with a new signifier – Cancer Patient.
Bandana Day 2011
That is why Wigs For Kids is such a critical support to children who are going through cancer treatment. Children are already struggling to establish their identity, to individuate – and when cancer treatment robs them of such a critical signifier as hair, it’s important to restore that as best we can.

Medium Length Hair – Hair Fair 2011

ContactSheet

I like medium length hair styles that give you the softness and free-flowing hair of the long styles without any of the intersections and pose difficulties of long hair. Sadly, it is one of the least common hair lengths produced in Second Life. That is odd, because medium length hair is pretty common in real life. As with the other composites of hair styles from the Hair Fair, you can see the larger pictures in a set on my Flickr.

Hair Fair Long Hair Styles

ContactSheet

There’s a lot of wonderful styles of long hair at Hair Fair. Here’s a sampling of what you can find. You can see the full size pictures in a set on my Flickr.

After shooting all the long styles, I ran over to Silent Hill, a role-playing sim, and popped on an OOC/Visitor tag to snap some pictures. It’s a gorgeous, moody retro Americana sim that looks like the perfect setting for something scary.

Hair Fair Ponies and Braids

Ponies and Braids

Ponies, pigtails and braids, oh my! Hair Fair is rich in tails and braids and there are some really great choices. A few let you customize them with color-change huds or scripts to alter the color of the pony fastener or the streaks in your hair. There are full-size pictures in the Flickr slideshow here. I shot these styles in a gorgeous dress from Vanitas Vesture that has such a great skirt, I decided to make a little video to show you how it moves in the newly released Model XXX AO from Behavior Body.

Ribbons, Bows and Furbelows, Casual Hair at Hair Fair

ContactSheet

What are furbelows anyway? I googled and found out they are pleats or ruffles used to embellish your clothing – so good enough. This is collection of Hair Fair styles that are more casual and incorporate hats, headbands, ribbons, flowers or even butterflies. Any additional adornment or embellishment. There are 29 styles and you can see the full size pictures in this Flickr set.

Looking for a more casual outfit to show off these hairstyles, I pulled out these WoE Gauge 2 Jeans with the strawberry patch. The top is a shortie from Moonshine and the belt is from Coco.

Fancy-Ass Hair

Formal Hat & Embellished Hair

Gidge dared me to call it that. Frankly, my folder for this hair is named Formal Hair: Embellished or Hats. But Fancy-Ass hair is more descriptive and that’s what it is. This is Wow! hair. There’s full size shots of each of these in the Set on my Flickr.
