Prepare to Be Amazed

may08_021

The Magician’s Assistant is not only a fabulous book by Ann Patchett, but an occupation you can explore in Second Life. Most magician’s assistants wear showgirl costumes with bodysuits, sequins and fishnets, but I went for a more practical and elegant solution with a gorgeous, low-cut jumpsuit from R.icielli for Culture Shock. Part of the role of a good magician’s assistant is to draw the eye, and with this much cleavage, the eyes will be drawn.

Hang in there!

may04_002

My 7th and 8th grade science teacher had a poster on the wall in his classroom that said “Hang in there, Friday’s coming!” I always thought that was so unrepresentative his real character as he had a passion for teaching and was not marking time waiting for the weekend. I guess I am thinking of him because I am “hanging in there” in this picture taken at Empyreal Dreams.

These planets are at the top of the stardust ribbon leading up from the build. Empyreal Dreams is a fabulous build that honors great works in literature including in this parcel, Les Miserables a book that loomed large in my childhood and was the centerpiece of one of the great conflicts of my elementary education.

The Hunger for Mesh

faMESHed

Nyu has released this fabulous new dress for faMESHed, the new monthly mesh event. She made it in five gorgeous colors – and I could not resist the gorgeous green. So, today is the first day of faMESHed and I have been wondering how to pronounce it for some time. Should I take a cue from Otis Redding and think of it as the Fa Fa Fa Fa Fa Fa Fa MESHed event? Or is it Fame Shed as someone boldly asked on plurk. Or, as seems to be the consensus in my totally unscientific plurk poll is it fa-meshed. However you want to pronounce it, it will feed your hunger for mesh, if you’re famished.

Where Are You? We’ve Got Some Work to Do Now.

Camille or Velma

While you were playing Glitch and Skyrim, Daphne took an arrow to the knee and Velma graduated from college and updated her look a bit. Yes, she still has the beloved orange sweater with a skirt from Tres Blah, but she added some cool earrings, kickin’ boots and a chic short cut.

Trekking at Ivalde

mar21_003

While checking out this new dress from Ivalde, I decided to trek around the Ivalde sim and climbed up high to get a good look. I am also taking a good look at this new dress with the colorful embroidery on the sleeves and bodice. I am wearing the teal dress, but it also comes in red, magenta, green, blue, and yellow all on a rich black fabric.

Where's the Snow?

jan13_005

Since Thursday the weather forecast has been filled with breathless anticipation of snowfall and every commercial break has had a promo about preparing for snow. About 11 pm last night there was giddy live coverage of a few flakes falling over at Mt. Scott, one of the higher elevations in the city. They even zoomed in to show that a piece of wood actually had some white cover of unmelted snow. I went to sleep before any snow fell in my neighborhood and checking out the window this morning, whatever snow that may have fallen is all melted away. Coming from Minnesota, I always am entertained by local weather coverage of snow, but this was the ultimate in much ado about nothing.

Besides, if I want snow, I can just hop around the grid and find some snow. In fact, I just took a peak at French travel blogger Karro Lean’s Winter Collection post and hopped on over to Y&R to snap some pics. The store had moved, but they left a landmark. Now, none of my outfit from today’s post comes from Y&R, but being drawn to their store to shoot a few pictures, I naturally went shopping and you can see the results in Gidge’s post from yesterday and another that is coming. For this, though, I was bundled up and ready for snow! As you can see, I have a fabulous thermal knit ribbed sweater from SAKIDE and over that a huge, thick, warm cable-knit sweater poncho from Baiastice. I was loaded for bear, as they say.

Merry Christmas Sequoia Nightfire

Sequoia Nightfire_004

Sequoia Nightfire was so busy keeping the Peace One Earth hunt train on the tracks, she had no time for guest styling before Christmas, but what a few days here or there? My parents once got a Christmas card that arrived in July 18 years after it was mailed. It came with a note from the Canadian postal service explaining that it was discovered when a desk was pulled out so they could paint behind it. Which raises the question, which is worse, not painting for 18 years or painting around the desk and not pulling it out for 18 years? Of course, coming so late, that card got so much more attention than if it had come 18 years earlier with the rush of Christmas cards. Somehow I think, though, if Sequoia Nightfire had been the picture on the face of that card, it would have glowed right through the envelope and out from behind the desk so they saw it and pulled it out and mailed in on time.

I mean look at that red! I thought about making a box and covering it with wrapping paper and having her pose as the bow! This magical red dress is from Sascha Frangilli of SAS – Sascha’s Designs. It is one of those see it to believe it dresses with the flowing panels of semi-sheer fabric that seems alive.

Merry Christmas, Reverie!

reverie_009

Reverie Boucher is a blog reader whom I met when she im’ed me with some good suggestions for outfits I might like to blog and introduced me to a store she liked in Second Life. Since then we have become friends and I have come to appreciate her suggestions as she has a great style of her own. Like me, she is happy to mix and match and showed that it todays’s outfit, taking the top of one dress from Baiastice and mixing it with a skirt to great effect.

The bold black lace and silver lines in this outfit made me want to shoot in China, though that alpha-ridden environment holds challenges for photos, but eventually everything was under control. Especially after she put on these hot shoes from N-Core!

Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me

dec06_002

I let my music-loving cat choose the song this morning. After all, he woke me up at 5:40 AM when he turned on James Brown's "Don't Tell A Lie" which is a great song, though not a great 5:40 AM song. I usually turn the Ipod's speaker off now after a 4:30 Flogging Molly wake-up song, but I forgot last night. While I was getting ready to post this, he was pushing fast forward through the playlists looking for something he liked. I decided to let him decide and go with whatever song he finally let play for more than two bars. I actually love his choice - a cover of Elton John's great song by Bettye LaVette who completely made it her own.

I can’t light up no more of your darkness.
All of my pictures seem to fade to black and white.
Oh, I’ve grown so tired and time is standing still before me.
It froze up right here on the ladder of my life.
