Like a Vallejo girl

Boris 2

This is the last of my new MiaSnow skins (snuffle). I’ve posted about the other two here and here. This one is called the Devil Doll, and as soon as I put it on I wanted to style it up like a Boris Vallejo painting. You know what I mean, naked fantasy girl about to get chomped by a dragon, or something. My silk is from Wishbox, the new Arabella Camisk.

Two more photos and the credits under this cut!

I DO <3 Rouge

I'm Ready for the I <3 Rouge Event !

If you have been under a rock, then you don’t know that the I <3 Rouge event is kicking off at 3pm SLT and it’s going to be spectacular. The saviest shoppers are already hitting the sim, knowing that once the DJs hit the floor it’s gonna be a packed house and you don’t want to miss out on any of these items, especially since some are exclusives JUST for this event. Vive la Rouge

I <3 Rouge_011

Starting today at 3 PM, there will be a weekend fundraising party to keep Rouge, that amazing red woman, alive and well and a destination spot on the grid. Rouge is not just the home sim for Codebastard Redgrave, or Codie, but it’s also a wonderful terraformed sculpture and a fabulous venue for events. Codie has been generous over the years, allowing folks to have parties and events at her club for no charge and over time a wonderful community of people have come to think of Rouge as a home away from home.

I <3 ROUGE

Many of those people are going to do their best to save Rouge with DJ’ed parties on Friday, Saturday and Sunday and by donating fun rouge items whose proceeds go to support Rouge. For example, the poses used in this post are all I poses by Status and all proceeds go to the support of Rouge sim. For complete details about the event, see here.

I Was Wrong About The Hat

Lady In Red_005

Sometimes I am wrong. I am so wrong it pains me in my egotistical fashionista soul. Take this hat for instance. The creator at Tres Beau dropped in on me, and my reaction wasn’t thank you, it was very much more like HAT? HAT? I don’t WEAR HATS! AND WHY ARE YOU SENDING ME RANDOM HATS?? I don’t know you hat maker! AWAY!

OK it was kind of like that. Continue reading

Gamblers and Fancy Women

Gacha gambling is one of those Second Life® joys that are widely shared and deeply felt. Folks love to try their luck and the follow up with trading and garage sales while they strive to collect the entire set of this hamster or that spice or those shoes. To explore various casino games and earn extra cash, you may look for slot online websites. We recommend https://ojocasino.ca!

PXL Creations is joining the Gacha craze with sixteen skins; eight for men and eight for women. The women’s skins are based on Gaia, a wonderful skin that I often wear. The men’s skins are based on PXL Creation’s Daniel.

Dappled things

ombrehombre_003

Why yes, it’s another new skin (the Alien Grey) from MiaSnow. I’ve been wearing MiaSnow skins of various colors ever since I realized that she made a bright, gorgeous chlorophyl green. When was that even, 2008? I loved it then, and I love how the skins have gotten that much more complex over time. Now nothing is uniform, it’s colorful (or colorless in this instance) AND dappled like a strange lizard beast! I’ve got one more to write about, and I’m looking forward to it.

I just saw Cajsa’s great post about the Debug Settings — definitely worth a look if you missed it!

Under the Hood: The Debug Settings

It’s not that every conversation in Second Life turns to Debug Settings, but every conversation about Debug Settings draws everyone’s attention. It’s like getting a car and poking around under the hood, we are afraid to experiment. We pay attention and take notes, and try to remember the tips that are shared.  I have collected a fair number of tips and arrange them in reference to why you might use them.

For a comprehensive list of Debug Settings, check out the Second Life Wiki. Berry did a recent post featuring her favorite Debug Settings.  If you have more debug tips, please add them in comments. I would love to add them to this list.

Update: Lette Ponnier wrote a response providing some context and clarification about how some of these settings can reduce performance. I agree, when I am not taking pictures, I change many back to default since I don’t need that level of detail anymore. I had thought that the categories provided enough context to make that clear, but value her clarification.

Mesh is not showing up properly

  • Meshbytespertriangle: 128
  • Meshmaxconcurrentrequests: 128
  • MeshminimumByteSize: 1

Sculpts are not showing up properly

  • RendervolumeLODFactor: >3

Building

  • MaxDragDistance – limit how far a select prim can run away
  • UISndObjectCreate – Leave it blank to make the build sound go away.

In-world Experience

  • PlayTypingAnim – False (turns off typing)
  • The camera and focus offset settings for a more realistic experience (see Nalates article)
  • NearMeRange=sets the search range for nearby avatars
  • Inventory Linking = True (allows you to paste links to inventory)
  • RenderUnloadedAvatar – Load avatars in your view.

Machinima

  • ZoomTime = increasing this makes the camera move more smoothly

Photography

  • YawFromMousePosition = 0 (stops your head following the mouse around the screen!)
  • RenderAutoMaskAlphaDeferred=True (Use alpha masks where appropriate, in the deferred (‘Lighting and Shadows’) graphics mode)
  • RenderAutoMaskAlphaNonDeferred=True (Use alpha masks where appropriate, in the non-deferred (‘Lighting and Shadows’) graphics mode)
  • RenderDynamicReflections=True – makes shiny objects reflective (unsupported graphics feature that will crash some folks and isn’t exactly bug-proof)
  • Render Glow = Sometimes you want to turn this off because the glow washes out your photo. However, it does not always get rid of all the glow for some reason.
  • RenderGlowResolutionPow – lower this number to reduce the glow
  • RenderDynamicLOD – Set it to “FALSE” to get a more natural distance in a landscape.
  • Torley Linden has an overview of all sorts of settings for photos.
  • Depth of Field settings and camera tilt from Second Life Wiki

Performance

  • RenderAppleUseMultGL=True (The default it False but for Mac users on new machines, it should be set to true)
  • ToastGap = 0
  • RenderFarClip = allows you to enter draw distance numerically instead of with a slider. Sometimes setting this to 0 and then back up can make a slow-rezzing place rez faster.
  • noinventoryLibrary=True – gets rid of the Inventory Library

It’s 3PM So It Must Be Zenith

sept26_003

Chic Management’s new monthly showcase FAIR has a clever organizing framework. Each monthly showcase is limited to twelve designers each of whom are assigned an hour of the day to serve as their inspiration. It’s a lovely conceit and for many of the items, I could see how the time of day inspired their design immediately. It is fun to walk the clock and try to figure out if I can follow their train of thought. Some were less successful than others are making an obvious connection to their time of day, but I like the challenge and seeing their efforts to meet it.

Miffyhoi Rosca of Zenith was assigned 3 PM and coincidentally, I am typing this very sentence at 3:01 PM. I can’t quite make the connection between the time of day and the off-shoulder sweater, but I certainly can make a connection to the sweater. It comes in three colors and also has matching socks that I did not put on. It’s comfy and cozy and so chic at the same time.

Party Dress Extraordinaire

sept25_008

Oh my! The minute I saw the new Marleen dress from Gizza, I knew I had found the party dress to end all party dresses. With its knife pleats dancing to my every movement and the riot of flowers at the neck, it is fun, frilly and altogether fabulous.
