The Kitchen is the Heart of the Home

No place like home

My mom once said you can always tell how close someone feels to you when you visit them. If they sit you down in the living room, you’re not that close. If they sit you down at the kitchen table, you’re just like family. Of course, that presumes you live in a home with a kitchen big enough for a table of guests and not in an apartment with a kitchen that feels crowded when the cat comes in to watch you cook.

The kitchen table is the heart of the home, and the countertops are its backbone. It’s where we gather to cook, eat, chat, and sometimes even work. A sturdy, spacious kitchen countertop can make all the difference when it comes to preparing meals and hosting guests. While granite and marble are popular options, many homeowners are opting for the warmth and charm of wood countertops. Not only do they provide a cozy and inviting feel, but they’re also highly functional and durable. With proper care, wood countertops can last for decades, making them a smart investment for any home. So why not consider adding some custom wood countertops to your kitchen and create a welcoming space that truly feels like the heart of your home?

Fortunately, Barnesworth Anubis’s henlopen cottage from Collabor88 is big enough for kitchen friends. I added the beautiful cabinet from DRD’s Arcade gacha in the kitchen. It was a white white which made my kitchen walls look faded, so I tinted the wood. I love creators who let us do that.

The Arcade closes at midnight tomorrow so get going and get pulling because your time is running short.

Back in My Own Bed

No place like home

It’s funny how good it feels to sleep in your own bed again after traveling. It is not that any of the places I stayed had uncomfortable beds. They were all lovely, but sure enough, back in my own bed, I slept longer with fewer interruptions. Why? I think it must be the sounds. At both my sisters’ houses it was just too quiet. No cars passing, no sirens, no garbage trucks at 5 AM. Instead, it was silent except for the chirps and rattles of the martins, the long whistles of the cardinals and orioles, and the shrieks of blue jays. My one sister is quite a birder with special houses and feeders, though it was kind fun and frustrating watching a squirrel carrying off the oranges she put out for the orioles. This bed is from DRD, part of the wonderful romantic collection released for The Arcade. The lovely letter and rose petals came from Fancy Decor at The Arcade, but it is more fun to pretend they came from a long lost love.

Home Again

Home Again

I am back after traveling to Minnesota to visit my family. It was wonderful to see my sisters and my brother, my nieces, nephews, greats and great grands. Thirty three showed up last Saturday to visit despite 70% chance of rain. It rained. A lot. But we stood under trees and stayed dry, though the table of food looked quite forlorn. Fortunately, my clothing was drip dry, as is this delightful short and sassy dress from Hucci for Collabor88.

Traveling

On the Road Again

I am still traveling, visiting my middle sister, my oldest sister, my younger brother, my nieces, my nephews and all the family. A trip to the family cemetery, the old homestead my grandparents built and of course, feasting everywhere I go. It’s tuckered me out which is why my pixel self is napping at Isle of Peace, a beautiful spot to rest and relax

Going Home

Just hold on, we're going home.

Collabor88 opened today with a flourish, a crisp and clean flourish. Certainly the lovely Shiroi skin applier from Glam Affair for Lelutka Mesh Heads is a clean, crisp look for these hot summer days. So are the lovely stone and silver earrings (completely jewelry set) from La Gyo. I want to dress for the heat back home in Minnesota because I hit the road tomorrow for a trip back home to visit my sister and the rest of my family.

Let Me In!

Trimming the Sails

The Arcade is opening at midnight and when that happens, many of you will feel like these adorable critters from Mutresse and Half-Deer. The Mutresse kitty cat is even scripted to furiously scratch at the door, “Let me in! Let me in!”

Trimming the Sails

Meanwhile, Collabor88 is in its last week, so you can leisurely stroll in and pick up the pretties like this gorgeous dress from Zenith. Zenith also released coordinated purses, but who wears a purse lounging on a day bed. This one is from Mudhoney and is at The Arcade. The dress has a hud to change the shirt and bra that you can see under the dress. I added a bandana from katat0nik because it’s adorable.

Trimming the Sails

Speaking of adorable. The Pure Poison shoes are at Collabor88 and can be customized to the nth degree. The chihuahua is from The Arcade (Half-Deer) and is named Toodles. My brother always had a Chihuahua and every one was named Toodles, Toodles 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. I have no idea why.

Trimming the Sails

My budget was very small this month so I feel very lucky to get this lovely travel caravan from Dust Bunny on the third or fourth pull. I don’t remember exactly, but I felt very lucky. The lace awning makes a great place for a bit of outdoor living with a daybed and dining table.

Trimming the Sails

Tomorrow is June and before you know it the Summer Solstice and hot sunny days of lazing by the lake and relaxing will be upon us. There is everything you could want for some great summer beach side vacations at The Arcade

Gidge + Me = Radarpar

Radarpar (Norwegian) (n.): Two people that work very well together.

Screen Shot 2016-05-21 at 11.23.30 AM

So I am still enjoying that list of untranslatable words. This one seemed so perfect for Gidge and me, though then I decided to Google Translate it and discovered it was Swedish, not Norwegian.  However, the full meaning was even more appropriate, two people whose work together make them more well-known than their separate identities, a dynamic duo if you will. Like BeBop and Rocksteady or Hans Solo and Chewbacca. Speaking of which…

Gemütlichkeit: A Feeling of Comfort & Coziness

Gemütlichkeit (German, n.): a feeling of comfort, cosiness, homeliness.

Gemütlichkeit is a world I picked up from this wonderful web site I found the other day. Even it it means you wander away for hours, I want you to check you out. It’s a collection of untranslatable words. Words that convey concepts, that have no equivalent in our language, at least not in a single word. It is fun.

Gemütlichkeit (German, n.): a feeling of comfort, cosiness, homeliness.

I am wearing the dress I wore in my last blog post, in a print this time. It comes in a solid or print version with six options in the texture huds. My last post was nothing but head shots, so I wanted to show you the back which is just so adorable. The house is the San Clemente from Barnesworth Anubis. It’s a great house and I will show you around inside, but the name makes me think of Richard Nixon, since that was where he was from.

Blogger Challenge: We Are All Just Walking Each Other Home

Clawtooth Blogger Challenge: We are all just walking each other home.

Clawtooth by Clawtooth Over and Over

Ram Dass, a pop spirituality writer, once said, “We are all just walking each other home.” It is a quote that has stayed with me since the day I first heard it.

Bubbles Clawtooth is walking his mother home. Bubbles’ mama has ALS, a neurodegenerative disease created to break hearts and spirits, but Bubs is too strong, too busy, and too needed to fall apart except perhaps for moments of silent screaming while driving to the pharmacy or grocery store. Because he is her child and her caretaker, he wrote that he feels like “the primary joy in her world which is both a treasure and a large cross to bear. Being strong when your heart feels like it’s shattering along with there being 24-hour needs and very little time for autonomy is by far the most difficult thing Bubs has ever had to face (and Bubs has faces some things darlings). It’s a living nightmare in one moment and a dear treasure the next.” Bubbles finds the strength in his love and joy in his service, but that does not make this walk easy.

Sometimes it helps when someone walks with you a little distance, even  if only in spirit. So I propose a Blogger Challenge to show our support and solidarity with Bubbles.

Life is too short to wear boring clothes

Life's too short to wear boring clothes

Yes, life is too short to wear boring clothes, but that does not mean that your clothes must be outré. Everyday casual clothing can avoid boring with great details and design. When the pants length is perfect, the collar points are sharp, and the drape is flattering, casual clothing is elevated, not boring. Check out the online stores for Delta Sigma Theta paraphernalia that can add an amazing look and style to your casual wear.
