Epictetus wrote in the Enchiridion, “The things in our control are by nature free, unrestrained, unhindered.” We control our own actions, words, opinions, what we like, what we don’t like, and what we want. If we stick to what we control, he suggests, we are free of restraint. It is when we try to influence the things outside our control that we are trapped. It’s good advice. The difficulty is figuring out what we can control.
That’s been on my mind a lot. There’s a lot I don’t like happening, but what can I control? I can choose despair or resistance, that’s up to me. I need to focus on what I can do, not what I wish would happen. So even though I feel like kicking more than an exercise bag, I will instead focus my mind and my heart on resisting despair.
Gemütlichkeit is a world I picked up from this wonderful web site I found the other day. Even it it means you wander away for hours, I want you to check you out. It’s a collection of untranslatable words. Words that convey concepts, that have no equivalent in our language, at least not in a single word. It is fun.
I am wearing the dress I wore in my last blog post, in a print this time. It comes in a solid or print version with six options in the texture huds. My last post was nothing but head shots, so I wanted to show you the back which is just so adorable. The house is the San Clemente from Barnesworth Anubis. It’s a great house and I will show you around inside, but the name makes me think of Richard Nixon, since that was where he was from. Continue reading →
One of my resolutions is simply to be more social in SL. What’s the point of being here if I’m a hermit. So I took my Sunday evening free time and first of all I stopped over at Pure Poison because the group chat about these new pumps in the Group Gift Gacha has been NONDAMSNTOP. I had to see what the fuss was about. Continue reading →
Regular readers of It’s Only Fashion will have missed us for the last two days. We had a corrupted database. From what I understand, it took a package from a North Korean agent in a black wool coat and dark glasses. Of course, anyone else would have known the agent was suspicious because it’s something like 90° and he’s wearing a black wool coat. Our database, however, was naive and unsuspecting. I hope it has learned its lesson.
Perhaps though, like Thomas Bailey Aldrich, it was distracted by two petals falling from a rose:
MY mind lets go a thousand things,
Like dates of wars and deaths of kings,
And yet recalls the very hour—
’T was noon by yonder village tower,
And on the last blue noon in May— 5
The wind came briskly up this way,
Crisping the brook beside the road;
Then, pausing here, set down its load
Of pine-scents, and shook listlessly
Two petals from that wild-rose tree.
I am loving this side wrap dress from Ison. It comes in several summer colors as well as a few prints. I opted for this lovely blue, one of my favorite colors as I believe you can tell looking at the cabin and furnishings.
I’m having a lazy Sunday morning here in SL. I’ve been tied up in the RL and poor Gidge has been wearing the same shoes for a week. This is almost a tragedy except that they are adorable shoes from House of Hucci at this month’s Collabor88 and therefore, tragedy is averted. Continue reading →
