Baby I’m Perfect…For You

I have a host of things in my inventory from a time in my SL that’s a big blank to me. So as I stand here looking fashiony, I’m going to mention some things and it’s neither a cry for attention nor an excuse. It’s just you see, back in the fall I missed a lot of things.

In the course of trying to keep a handle on my inventory I keep finding things that I can’t recall ever getting. I’m beginning to worry that lovely people who I blog for might think I don’t love them, or didn’t like their things. This is probably likely as I tend to blog daily but my madness is without reason usually when choosing what I blog. I’m telling my story of those days, and so if something got passed over, alas it often stays passed over.

I was trying to think, some time ago, how I had possibly missed an event. How is it I didn’t attend? It was a truly loved event, filled with creators I admire and not one I’m likely to miss. Upon further review I realized- it was the fall.

In the fall you see, both of my parents died.

They had been sick, and within two months I found myself an adult orphan and there was a time when even if I was logged in and blogging, I simply wasn’t here. I was here, but I wasn’t present.

I don’t recall this dress or if I ever blogged it. In fact, starting September 1 I went on autopilot in both lives. I stayed there for months. I did my best to stay plugged in, to focus and do the things that were required. I have blogged a ton. Some of it was sincere, some of it was me phoning it in and I’m sure you noticed that.

I vowed when the new year came that rather than make random goals and resolutions I was simply going to be. Being is a huge thing. Being takes commitment. Being involves being present and you must actual participate in your life for it to work. I vowed to own myself, and know my worth and stop making emotional investments that were bankrupting me. I am determined to make investments where there is a return, and in those – I will make them deeply and with my whole self.

So this is me saying thank you for coming along with Gidge these months as she tried to recover. Thank you Winter, who reached out of a years long silence, across a sea of potential enmity to comfort me when my days were the worst. Thank you constant friends who never left me and were always there, even when I just needed nothing but to not be alone.

I will never recover, I will never heal.

But I am here, and so are you. And that’s pretty damn awesome.

My Slink Obsession Brings Us Full Circle

150703_004

I’m not obsessed
So don’t forget it
It’s just a silly phase I’m going through

I must confess that clothing appliers amuse me. After all, when I began back in 2007, most clothing was made of textures applied on the avatar’s system layer. Details like buttons and collars and cuffs were usually drawn on and even photo sourced clothing had an air of unreality to it. Flexis and sculpts added depth and form, but they did not add verisimilitude. And then came mesh and there was a revolution in fashion where most of the design effort was focused on the forms, the shape, the buttons, collars and other details and the fabrics were added later. Because the barriers to entry for mesh creation are higher in terms of skills and software, several designers retreated and retired. Now that mesh bodies have replaced the system body for thousands of us, we are back to applying textures, this time on the mesh body. It does seem like we have come full circle – though with a distinct revolution in quality.

For example, this swimsuit from MiaMai is put on with an applier. It’s from the quarterly My Slink Obsession event that opens tomorrow. Certainly there are lots of mesh swimsuits and even several that don’t flash unsuspecting bystanders, though I think they are in the minority. However an applied swimsuit has its advantages, especially for those bystanders when one is sitting down and shifting positions in a chair. Another reason to love appliers is how much easier it makes layering. All of us have struggled with trying on a dozen blouses trying to fine one that will fit under a jacket and longed for the days of system clothing when layering was as easier as one, two, three. This brings back that ease coupled with the higher quality of the mesh body.

Shining in Vintage

aug24_011

The Mesh Button Vest from Shine is all kinds of wonderful. I love its glittery goodness in every color. I had the hardest time choosing which to wear especially since the Seberg Pants from Ingenue seemed made for them and came in a rainbow of colors that could coordinate with any of the vests. Such a quandary, but I ended up choosing the Teal because who doesn’t love teal?

The Company You Keep

0229_003

Dime con quién andas, y te diré quién eres.
Tell me the company you keep and I will tell you who you are.

I don’t often shop the sales events and discount rooms because often the items are no longer available by the time I get around to blogging them, but I had to go to The Dressing Room this time around and support the creators and The Dressing Room organizer Linka Demina in their decision to keep good company.

I’ve been trying to go to the different designer showcase sales around the grid lately #1 to see several designers in one location and #2 who wants to pass up a great deal on great stuff!  Well, I found these pants at The Dressing Room (can’t remember if it was the current one or last one), but they are from Fishy Strawberry – always find stuff there I like!

Dream Logic

may24_004

My post title comes to you courtesy of Kerryth Tarantal. It’s a good choice because this dress from Sysy’s looks like a dream incarnate. While my family lived in the Northwoods of northern Minnesota, my sister lived in the Red River Valley where it’s so flat you can see the shore of Lake Agassiz from miles away as though it were some huge land formation. There’s even a viewpoint for drivers to pull over and marvel at this 8 foot “cliff” marking the shore. Lake Agassiz would be the largest lake in the world if it still existed – and that flat plain that is its former lakebed created a vast, flat plain of rich farmland. The thing is when an 8 foot lake edge is the most significant land mass for hundreds of miles, people tend to focus on the sky. And the vistas in the sky are amazing – the Northern Lights are definitely the Queen of the Sky Pageant, but Sky Blue Pink is First Runner Up. Sysy somehow managed to create a dress of Sky Blue Pink – that illusive color that we all know but struggle to define. I got the dress at Shoe Fair.

This set was shot at ImagiLearning Lowlands – one of the many gorgeous Imagilearning sims. The sky is a glorious Sky Blue Pink thanks to a windlight setting Gidge made and gave to me. You will have to hit her up for the NC of the setting.
