The Best of Second Life

Chryselda - a gown by Shai Delacroix of Casa del Shai

There’s nothing more amazing, thrilling and exciting about Second Life than the way folks pull together to help others. Whether on the small scale like with a microproject like the Have a Heart Campaign or the massive fundraising juggernaut of the Relay For Life, Second Life residents have stepped up to help time and again. Some of that is the way it fosters international connections. When some disaster happens on the opposite side of the globe, we know people who are there and affected by it. From brushfires to earthquakes to typhoons, SL residents have each other’s backs.  I received a message from Shai Delacroix that she had set up a Red Cross donation box at her store for relief for the people displaced by the flooding from the typhoon this weekend. I popped over to make a donation and a constant stream of people were coming in to do the same.

Shai is just one of many SL residents from the Phillipines whose friends and family are affected by this typhoon. She spents hours standing by the donation box last night so she could personally thank people.  She is also donating 50% of her sales to direct relief so you can dress up in beautiful gowns like the one I am wearing and also help the relief effort. We chatted for a bit and I wandered over to look for a gown to shoot for this blog post…so the fashion is after the cut.

I'm No Novice

posted by Gidge Uriza

Sascha Frangilli of Sascha’s designs is by far one of my favorite evening and cocktail gown creators. She’s never afraid to embrace embellishment on a grand scale and her NOVICE gown is no exception.  Wearing a mink stole in keeping with the fall color of this one, I’m feeling gorgeous in this exceptional cocktail dress. Girl From Elsewhere Goes Clubbing

Well, if that last outfit was the Girl Next Door Goes Clubbing, this one is definitely the Girl from somewhere else.  I got more compliments and propositions wearing this in one day than I usually get in a month. I think it was the combination of everything – the dress, the hair, the skin. Whatever, this dress which is also from Redgrave certainly is hot.

Like the other outfit from Redgrave, this one comes with some key essentials including the stockings and the brilliant gold bangles. There are two bangles on each wrist – using the hand and forearm attachment points to give this more verisimilitude.

Liquid Dress

posted by Gidge Uriza

I went to an erotic ball once, with a gay friend. They offered a free service for the girls who wanted to go topless and remain LEGAL according to local decency standards – they’d paint your nipples with liquid latex.

Funny…….it didn’t look a bit like this sexy metallic latex from Digit Darkes.

I think it was just an excuse for guys to touch your bewbs anyway. Continue reading

Charmeuse

My favorite fabric is charmeuse – a thick heavy and soft as rainwater silk. My favorite piece of clothing in real life is a vintage robe of apricot charmeuse with heavy raised embroidery – apricot on apricot so the bodice holds its shape. I just has to say, silk charmeuse sliding on naked skin is yummy.  This dress from Baiastice is charmeuse and honestly when you wear something to wonderful to touch and feel, it’s a crime to wear something underneath it. A Crime!!!

Viva La Jolene

Now if Dolly Parton had been wearing this she never would have had to write, “Jolene, Jolene, I’m begging you please don’t take my man.” Of course, this is named Jolene,  probably because that’s what she was wearing, though I cannot imagine Dolly in granny pants, can you? There’s a lingerie party at MDR tonight with DJ Ashleigh Dickens – and Ashleigh is a fun  DJ. I am thinking I will be wearing Jolene – though I promise not to take your man even though with this lingerie, Dolly Parton says I can.

Over the lingerie, the super sexy Clingy Satin dress from Viva La Glam. Yes, they’re back and I immediately went to see if they were as wonderful as I remembered. Nostalgia has that effect, you know. As you can see, they are as good as ever. Now let’s cross our fingers and hope they bring back the metallic tights so I don’t have to feel guilty every time I blog them.

Not Your Granny's Granny Square

How many of you have a granny square afghan made by some older relative who tirelessly crocheted multitudes of color scraps of yarn into rosettes and squares and then painstakingly sewed or crocheted them together?  Well, Crochet takes that ubiquitous crocheted rosette favored by grannies the world over and puts them to very un-grannylike use.  Ahem…I present to you the  Crochet Candy Bikini & Skirt – though it would be more appropriately named Shock Your Granny!

Granny says Eep!

Granny says "Eep!"

Red and Green are NOT Always for Christmas!

posted by Gidge Uriza

Sometimes I think designers name their stores more aptly than they realize, as I can’t imagine doing anything in these pants than SLINK. Smooth sexy textures that grip the curves and just hint that they might slide down – they rest perfectly on the hips of my pixel frame.

Jewelry is from the Amazing Collection at Balderdash

The top is also a creation at SLINK and while these dressy pants might beg something more over the top, I personally felt like the tee was a great match – especially pairing it with Truth’s Sehra hair. Continue reading

LBD

It’s about time I show you the other dress I used when snapping all the Hair Fair pictures. This again has a simple neckline and does nothing to distract from framing the hair beautifully. From Pixel Dolls, it’s called Cashmere and definitely projects that soft and sensuous fabric.

Zoe: Collaboration

I love it when Second Life designers decide to work on something together. It’s a testament to the openness of SL Fashion Community and to the freindships and connections people make though Second Life and through their mutual love of fashion. In this case, Leah McCullough of Naive and Mouse Mimistrobell of Dark Mouse produced completementary dresses and jewelry.
