Are you a Chiffonzie?

Aug23_003

A chiffonzie is a designer who automatically reaches for the silk chiffon when making a dress. It’s a new term coined by some Project Runway competitors to refer to a small cadre of drape-addicted designers who seem to only design with silk chiffon. Appolonia Criss is not a chiffonzie. She uses all sorts of fabrics and designs highly structured as well as soft, flowing work. However, this silk chiffon dress is a wonderful example of what a chiffonzie can do – make a delightfully feminine froth of a dress.

Color!

Chatkare Culture Shock

I love the bold, color-blocking in Appolonia Criss’s new dress called City Chic. She takes a very mod style and updates it with a blouson top and short, very modern sleeves.

Chatkare Culture Chic

I decided to note the military-inspird sleeves by adding the gauntlets from Nzuri, though most gauntlets don’t have adorable bows at the wrist.

This brilliant and bold color got me looking for a brilliant and bold place to shoot and that led me to the Labyrinth of Absurdity.

Bloggity Return

Chantkare Leetah Dress

It was a weird set of days, having no SL blog to post on. I could’ve stocked up on photo shoots but that’d have been too much like, being organized and prepared. But, we’re up and we’re back and since you clearly had no other blog alternatives to turn to (cough, snort) I know you are relieved and breathing a sigh of relief. Continue reading

Thursday Night's Alright for Dancing

mar01_022

The newest mesh dress from Chantkare is made for dancing. I was checking out the March Mesh Madness event, standing with the eager hordes waiting for stuff to rez so I could actually see one article of clothing when I got an IM inviting me to a club where they were playing a set of TV theme song covers in honor of Davy Jones. So I set myself the question, “do i want to continue to swim in the lag waiting to see something – anything – or do I want to go listen to a weirdly appealing idea for a music set?”

mar01_013

And that’s how I ended up at Soundproof, the new club opened by Paradox Messner who has DJed at The Velvet for years. And yes, it was a fun set – full of great musical covers that I had never heard before and of course, culminating with “Hey, hey, we’re the Monkees…” As to March Mesh Madness, I am going to try staying up late and logging in after folks have gone to sleep. Just don’t everybody else try that.

Chantkare Giftables

Chantkare Leo

Let me just start by confessing that I hate Marketplace. I don’t dislike it. I hate it. I don’t use it for myself, but have thought it was an acceptable option for gift-giving, but I have changed my mind. After more than L1000 in presents were not delivered and the responsible store owners did nothing, did not even respond, I have decided that all my future gifting will be things that I can purchase in-wolrd, put in a nice box and hand over in person. I will also still use in-world gift vendors, but Marketplace is simply not an option for gifting until its delivery system becomes much more reliable. So, I thought I might spend some time highlighting a few stores where you can purchase gifts in advance of Valentine’s Day. Yesterday I highlighted some fabulous jewelry from Donna Flora, but sometimes you might want to give some clothing – and Chantkare is a great place to start. Most, though not all, of the items at Chantkare are transferrable. Be sure to check permissions before purchasing though since items with resize scripts are no trans.

C is for me…

jan24_004

A friend game me my initial letter for Christmas, so I had to take it out for a spin. It seems just camp enough for this fun little outfit I put together with the new bodysuit from Chantkare and the mesh mini from Mon Tissu.

Where's the Snow?

jan13_005

Since Thursday the weather forecast has been filled with breathless anticipation of snowfall and every commercial break has had a promo about preparing for snow. About 11 pm last night there was giddy live coverage of a few flakes falling over at Mt. Scott, one of the higher elevations in the city. They even zoomed in to show that a piece of wood actually had some white cover of unmelted snow. I went to sleep before any snow fell in my neighborhood and checking out the window this morning, whatever snow that may have fallen is all melted away. Coming from Minnesota, I always am entertained by local weather coverage of snow, but this was the ultimate in much ado about nothing.

Besides, if I want snow, I can just hop around the grid and find some snow. In fact, I just took a peak at French travel blogger Karro Lean’s Winter Collection post and hopped on over to Y&R to snap some pics. The store had moved, but they left a landmark. Now, none of my outfit from today’s post comes from Y&R, but being drawn to their store to shoot a few pictures, I naturally went shopping and you can see the results in Gidge’s post from yesterday and another that is coming. For this, though, I was bundled up and ready for snow! As you can see, I have a fabulous thermal knit ribbed sweater from SAKIDE and over that a huge, thick, warm cable-knit sweater poncho from Baiastice. I was loaded for bear, as they say.

Patterns

Jan08_016

I love fabric with prints and patterns. I especially love the tone on tone patters like this print in Chantkare’s new Shirpa dress. To me, tone on tone patterns have a subtlety that multicolor patterns don’t have – but yet they are lively and add so much to a dress. This is a particularly brilliant example showing the effect of using a tone and then again, as though the fabric were turned to the other side.
