Casual Comfort and Joy

in shadow_001

I used to own this book, titled something like How To Live Well When Your Age and Income are UNDER 30. Oddly, it was sort of a lifestyle book for when your career and finances aren’t in keeping with the aesthetics you’d like to embrace.

It gave you advice on how to appear “all together” – always wear at least lipgloss, do you nails – do them yourself it’s cheaper. Wear a scarf, it classes up even a tee shirt. Meet friends for apps vs dinner – it’s cheaper but still conveys that social eating and drinking vibe. It taught you how to hunt for chic, fun things to do within your budget. Continue reading

A Piece of Cake

Mar21_010

I guess one way for diabetics to have their cake is in the form of a dress like this colorful confection from CheerNo. It comes in all all the bright flavorful colors, blue, pink, yellow, purple, red and green. I went for green because that bright green looks like it could power the universe. Made of a simple sleeveless bodice with four flounces of color for a skirt in three shades of cake frosting and one layer of black on top, it’s like a very, very, very dark chocolate with three flavors of frosting. It looks delicious.

Let Me Give Your Heart A Break

I Know You Are

Watching the temperature drop has made me a cranky girl. I want my daffodils and spring days. I am ready now, for winter to be gone and the newness of the world to open up like oxygen to us all. Continue reading

All Summer in a Day

mar 05_003

Yesterday my cat acted like a lunatic, running from one end of the apartment to the other, howling at the ceiling, even standing on the back of the couch on his hind legs, pawing at the air above his head and howling. He seemed to have taken leave of his senses. Today when he was back to his usual placid self, it clicked for me. Yesterday was a bright, beautiful sunny day and I had the window blinds all the way up to let all the sun in. Today it’s back to gloomy, cloudy rain. His reaction reminded me of a favorite short story by Ray Bradbury called All Summer in a Day. I remember reading it for the first time in 8th grade English class and actually crying in class. I found a short video on YouTube, cheekily low-budget and totally faking the ending. The filmmaker probably thinks people can’t handle the real ending which is a stark look at childhood cruelty without a Hollywood ending of redemption.

Cultural Appreciation

Mar02_002

Bilo is one of the most unique clothing brands in Second Life. In additional to the usual Western style designs, Bilo’s Mayaa Thistle also designs clothing drawn from Islamic fashion aesthetics such as this lovely caftan adorned with a wonderful fabric featuring an intricate pattern that developed from the focus on nonrepresentational figures in Islamic art. It is refreshing to see Islamic fashion represented with respect and accuracy in Second Life. When it is as lovely as this caftan,  it’s doubly rewarding.

Are you feeling fameshed?

Mar01_002

Oh, autocorrect does not like puns! Every time I type faMESHed it corrects it to famished. Well, it’s that time again when your hunger for mesh can be satisfied with a trip to the fabulous faMESHed showroom. I am taken with this leather dress from Baiastice featuring a delicate cut out collar. It comes in several solid colors as well as four colorblocked options. I tossed on a jacket from House of Fox because it’s a bit chilly in these parts. I am wearing a large jacket over a medium dress. For some reason, a medium jacket over a small or even xs or xxs dress does not work and portions of the dress show through at the back and shoulders. The only size jacket to work is the large. However, my own shape is medium, so it works for me. And that is why you demo when you shop for items to mix and match with other mesh.

A Sense of Poise and Rationality

Poise_010I was musing over my new pet peeve this morning as I lounged around in my comfy jammies.

Rudeness.

There are lots of forms of it on the internets, but this one is getting to me. Someone will blog or post on FLICKR “hey I’m going to be gone” only to be met hither and yon with “no one cares.” Continue reading

Sunshine in the Asylum

Feb02_007

Nyunyu Magic of NYU has released an adorable long blouse (or short dress) in several colors with white or beige contrasting stripes. I decided to wear the black and white because I just purchased some new jewelry that I thought would work well with the dress. Black and white also suits the mod aesthetic of its straight-line shape, while in red and white or blue and white, it has a more nautical air.

Feb02_003

In keeping with the mod aesthetic, I decided to wear the great thigh-high suede boots from Baiastice. While boots in the Sixties and Seventies were usually knee-high, I was going for a retro vibe, not a retro costume.
