Where Did They Hide My Windlight?

Those of us who have installed Second Life viewer updates recently have all had a moment when we said “Gack! Where’s my windlight? What have they done!!!” Actually, I am sure most of us had more profane things to say as we struggled to understand this new interface. My first reaction was totally negative. I have found a couple silver linings, though, to the grey cloud that is the new interface and struggled through. I am sure that other folks who are also exploring the new interface has even more ideas of how to use it more easily and hope everyone can share their tips, because the new interface has confounded some folks. As I get more comfortable with it, there are some things I value.

The Environment Editor is in the same place as ever, though we have faster access to the different components of the editor than before. They have also given us some additional day presets so we can choose our Second Life environment and still have it cycle through day and night. This will be a great benefit to role-playing sims and other sims that want a day and night cycle, but want a different environment than the default we are all used to.

Ambitious people can create their own Day Cycle or Fixed Sky settings and make them the default for their region, giving people a much stronger level of control over how people experience their sims. We used to get notecards at a sim with a suggested windlight setting we could replicate if we weren’t too lazy. Then we could get notecards in some viewers that we could click on to import a setting or get a link to a preset we could download and install, if we weren’t too lazy. Now, all we have to do is got there and unless we override the region’s lighting with our own, we will see what they want us to see. That’s a bonus.

A fine mesh

Rebel Hope sent me her Mesh dress tonight.  Obviously Berry already blogged this, but not the flat-chested version darnit.  The dress comes in four versions — Curvy/Curvy in heels, and normal/normal in heels.  I fit the normal one, although initially my boobs were a little big for it.  I changed my shape a tad, reducing my bust size until they no longer poked through the dress, and it suited me to a T.  I really like how the fabric moves… as Berry said, it bends when you bend, which is shockingly realistic for something made out of zeros and ones.  I’m wearing it with this new skin from Plastik, the Aleria ethereal lilac skin, which comes with these awesome glowing creepy-ass eyes.  How would you style this gorgeous dress?  Photo yourself and leave the URL in comments, I wanna see!

Two more photos (full length, back and front) and the credits behind this cut.

The All-In-One Set Up Tip Sheet

For some reason the regular Second Life viewer decided that I could only log into the beta grids. I tried all sorts of things to convince it that I wanted to go elsewhere, but it ignored me and kept defaulting back to the beta grid. Eventually I manual deleted all my App Settings folders for Second Life, deleting the cache, preference, everything. Since I had to reset my preferences anyway, I thought I might give you a walk-through of how I set up my computer to shoot photos.

First I press CTL-OPT-D to open the Advanced Menu.  I want to be able to cam all over with my camera so Deselect Limit Select Distance. This not only lets me edit things far away, but I can also option-click on them to bring them into the exact center of the picture. Then I Disable Camera Constraints so I can move my camera vision all over, far away or close up. I select High-Res Photos because it doubles the pixel count of the pictures you save.  I also select Quiet Snapshots to Disc so that I don’t get the click sound and also so I don’t make a cheesy smile in every picture. I also enable the Show Development Menu for some things later one.

(Handy Tip #1: See that Rendering Types Menu. Remember that! If you are editing a prim and it runs away from you and gets buried in a mountain or if you move your pose stand and accidentally lower it into the ground you can go there and rescue your lost and buried items. Just deselect Surface Patch and the ground disappears and there your things are.)

Week 33 – Mahogany

Mahogany is not usually a color you think of when it comes to your clothing. But this week I managed to find something I already had in my closet… well TWO somethings.. my hair and top!

Mahogany-33 b

Both are Mahogany. The top is from one of my favorite stores The Plastik, and the hair is from another that I love to shop at Exile.

Bitch(es) Love – BAGS

I want to jump off the roof with everyone else. I do. I want to drink the Kool Aid. But, I get all nervous about change.

So, my first make-out session with MESH is with a set of bags by Maxwell Graf the creator at BITCH.

I totally fangirl him btw. Please don’t tell him. Because I try to be all like casual around him.  Continue reading

The Geometry of Sound

aug27_003

Of course I had to check out SL 3.0 and mesh clothing. I was curious about how it looked, how it behaved and needed to see more than someone else’s experience to really understand it. The moment it clicked for me was when I tried to click the edit window, not to edit it but to move it just a mm higher and discovered when the say you cannot edit it, they really mean you cannot edit it. I had presumed they just meant I could not resize it for my shape, which is also true. Luckily for me, the large size Jane skirt fit my shape, though giving me more booty than I am used to. I only wanted to raise it a hair because of the belt, not the skirt itself. I edited the belt instead, turning it a bit so its orientation didn’t have it cut into the skirt.

Bring on Autumn

Wind is sweeping my coast, and Summer is ending with a rather large bang. Today’s outfit is in honor of the Season of Mists, which I sincerely hope will begin as soon as nature stops throwing a fit. I love fashionably Dead’s skins, and was beyond overjoyed to see two of them for sale for FLF yesterday. The skin goes so well with this shockingly orange hair from fashionably Dead — err, so I accidentally bought the color pack beneath the one that I wanted, but I really like it anyway. The cheek makeup is from Hate Me and Eat Me, a makeup-and-pose shop that is well worth following for its creativity. The tattoo is a new one from HUZ, the Secret Lotus. A picture of the back is beyond the cut! And the lovely dress is by Evie, of course

This HOT post of mine :D

Heya folks!
Hope you’re doing good. I’m super busy at work and it’s sooo hot here in Southern Italy that i’d just like to fall asleep and wake up in October….. But hey, i don’t think it’s possible, so i’ll sit and wait. And, in the meantime, i’ll show you what i got on my last shopping trips 😛

!gO! is a new to me store, i discovered it casually and  i immediately fell in love with Gocha Merlin funky creations, like the outfit and the shirt that i’m wearing in the following pictures.

Funky purpleness

During my shopping trip

This lovely cardigan, available in more colours, comes in two versions, sold separately: with long-sleeves (the one i’m wearing) or short sleeves.
Skirt and leggings come together, they’re also available in other colors. The white top/bra, which is tintable, is the latest group gift in the store and i think it goes well with the outfit.
Such a cool outfit!

Always wanted to teach at a certain school of magic…

I got these new house badges from Schadenfreude and ~silentsparrow~ and was faced with the eternal conundrum: Which house am I? Really and honestly? I’ve always longed to be Slytherin because evil bitches are the most fun, but knowing my personality, I’m much more of a Hufflepuff. In this post I split the difference and wore Ravenclaw… The tie comes with a collar that suits Schadenfreude’s oxford shirts nicely, and you don’t have to choose your house before you buy it. The badge and tie both have scripted huds. More photos and credits below the cut!
