You Can’t Buy This Skin

jul06_006

Gala Phoenix’s skin is known for its fragility and tender youthfulness.

One of the more popular and well-loved skin makers in Second Life is Gala Phoenix of Curio whose fresh-faced, youthful skins have won her hundreds, if not thousands, of loyal customers who anxiously await every release. Sadly, they will have to wait a long time. If you haven’t been on hiatus or sleeping under a rock, you have probably heard of the Hush-Curio controversy. I won’t repeat the details here as there are plenty of sources for information. I think the best is The Blogging Elf by Arica Storaro who captures the important details without any hyperbole, maintaining a calm, reasoned journalistic tone. Continue reading

frrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Oscar and “his” computer

“frrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr” is what my cat had to say this morning. He also said “ghew” and tried to order something on Itunes. Thankfully, when I came back to my chair, the message said they were unable to complete his request. I turned off one-click ordering at Amazon a few months ago after having to cancel The Barbados Travel Pack. Of course, when I try to blog, he’s all over the place. Butting his head against my forehead, climbing up on my shoulder and walking all over the place. If you knew how any times I deleted long interjections in my blog posts! But of course, I wouldn’t have him any other way. He’s a loving, curious and demanding cat who provides so much entertainment and affection. Don’t fret about his eye, he’s still a little OCD from spending 8 months in the animal shelter before I adopted him. It’s been a year and it’s so much better, but not completely gone. The black SoftPaws on his claws prevents him from scratching himself too much.

Even with all his help, I hope to introduce you to this lovely day dress from Bilo. It’s a rather conservative (for Second Life) dress, but RL or SL, this is the perfect dress to beat the heat – fabric that breathes and loosely fitted. It’s bright summer colors just add some energy to the look. You can find this dress in this gorgeous blue and several other colors at faMESHed.

The July 4th Spontaneous Party

I had an inadvertent party yesterday. It started out with me wandering around and telling my friend Codie “I’m SL Food shopping….somebody stop me.” She LOLed because she know’s I’m a dork of the highest order but really, if I’m SL food shopping it can only mean one thing -a party is brewing. I’m just the vehicle, like The Force on a Jedi, I just gotta roll with it when it happens. Continue reading

Happy July 4th – A New Group Gift from Status Poses

When I was a kid, the 4th of July meant a huge neighborhood picnic and desserts that were only trotted out once a year for this very special occasion. It’s a comforting memory, probably idealized, of a time and place where everything was easy, and special and for one day none of the neighbors were fighting only enjoying Marian Davis’s angel food cake with berries, and pies and cookies made by other neighbors.

It was perfect and peaceful…..at least when you were six.

Sometimes you meet people, that every time you speak to them, they make you feel comfortable and happy, and even if you don’t spend a lot of time with them, every interaction makes you wonder why you don’t.

One of those people for me, is Samara Barzane.

Thanks Sam, you made my day.

STATUS POSES group is a 50L fee but members get free gifts all year. I’m like AMEX, Membership has it’s privileges.

Status Poses is located on Amira.  You can join our group by searching groups for STATUS POSE 🙂

Sun in the Fun

Wedding Finery

These sunny shorts from ColdLogic will be bringing the sun to the fun this weekend. I love their crisp styling and ice cream colors and the beautiful narrow belt that comes attached to them. Whether you wear the pink, blue, melon or this sunshine fresh yellow, you will be looking sharp and ready for fun in the sun – even if you’re painting the garden shed.

Bunga Mawar

Pink Flamingo

The Luka dress from LeeZu is all about the fabric with its beautiful design and the form, with its exaggerated sleeves.

It’s funny how the mind works, I was looking at the fabulous new mesh dress from LeeZu and its extra-long sleeves. They reminded me of three former housemates of mine from Malaysia. They were Muslim women who usually wore Western dress but with longer skirts and a hijab that covered their bodice and sleeves to right about the length of these sleeves. They were already in my mind when I saw the back of the dress and all of a sudden out of my memory bank popped the Malay expression for rose, bunga mawar. I never actually learned Malay while living with them, but absorbed enough that I could contribute to a Malay conversation in English. I thought I had forgotten everything until I saw this dress.

Pink Flamingo

A bunga mawar by any other name would smell as sweet.

You Have To Go To Baiastice

As a community I think we do a nice job of celebrating people when times are bad for them. We shower love and all those things we should’ve said when people are ill, dying, dead, etc. Which is pretty awesome. People will say that the fashionistas are cold materialistic bitches but, when you see the outpouring of love that we can generate – I think it betrays our true natures. We’re not bishes, we just play them on the Grid.

But, what if sometimes we told people how awesome they are – just because? It’s not a meme or a challenge. More like, I wanted to blog this dress and didn’t have anything witty or interesting to share. I remembered the first time I went to Baiastice with Cajsa. She said “You have to go to Baiastice, it’s amazing.” Continue reading
