Cajsa Fast Five: April 14th

Fast Five Happy April 14th. So Oscar ate my post yesterday and posted one of his own. It got more hits than usual which obviously says something. What, I don’t know. But something. Anyway, today’s post is full of pretty pictures and an essay on teaching in SL, or rather why aren’t we doing more.

  1. Second Life, This Dangerous Thing: Lizzie Gudkov asks why teachers are so resistent to using Second Life as an immersive teaching tool and what can be done to change that resistance. She’s looking for suggestions so if you have ideas, please add them in comments.
  2. Men Are Pigs: Drew VeauDeau has one of the funniest and cleverest photos to illustrate – complete with a fun post as well. I love the photo.
  3. Wonderland Hop: Caduceus Lorakeet does another masterful job with an alternative avatar. This time it’s the Coco Rabbit and I just love it.
  4. 443: Danni Ravenelli has a great casual outfit and wonderful pics to show it off. I love the confidence she displays in her first photo which is the one that drew me into the blog post.
  5. The Edge of the World: Charisma Jonesford has a beautiful and emotional evocative photo. Her description of standing by the ocean is spot on. It is a a magical experience and she captures that.

Cajsa Fast Five: April 11th

Fast Five Today is going to seem all about me, me, me! But I can’t help it. It’s just my lucky day.   However, there are posts about other things, too. One is a Flickr PhotoSteam that every SL explorer should follow – for fabulous landscape photos and ideas for places to shoot.

  1. Connecting 365 SL Lives – Cajsa Lilliehook: Today was my turn to write an entry for Katya Valeska’s blog sharing the stories and experiences of folks in SL. There are still openings, so if you want to participate, please click on the To Connect tab and apply.
  2. Playing With Projectors: I have been playing with projectors for a while now and on a whim put one on sale on Marketplace. Strawberry Singh kindly blogged all about it and I was thrilled to see my projector in use. And besides, there’s a beautiful picture! If you’re at work, though, there is tasteful nudity.  Continue reading

Cajsa Fast Five: April 10th

Fast Five April 10th! Three of my hometown friends share this birthday, so I spent the morning catching up. I guess I have known them since birth since they were still in the hospital when I was born on the 15th – not that I remember! Anyway, that is why I am off to a late start on this today.

  1. The Fashionista – A Second Life Role-Play Archetype. When Gidge, Hybie and I started brainstorming ideas for the Fashionista Achievement Awards series, our goal was humor. However, Estelle Pienaar is deadly serious in suggesting that we are, in fact, role-playing and should recognize that fact. It’s an interesting article that unpacks  some of our assumptions about Second Life. I think of SL as a social media community, but confess that yes, there are role-playing elements. What do you think?
  2. Mesh Deformer in Action: Nalates Urriah shares a YouTube video from David Turenne of the newest iteration of the Mesh Deformer.  I point to her post instead of the video because she adds valuable context and commentary. Frankly, her blog is full of news today, with a link to a good tutorial on materials, info on the new viewer and much more. She’s been busy.
  3. Thanks, LL, Now the Nineties Are Back: Aemeth Lysette is excited about the new Materials texturing but recognizes it has potential for abuse. Could materials be the new bling? Check out her funny post and see what you think?
  4. Memoirs: LisSska Sl has a gorgeous photo and a beautiful blog. However, you know how blogspot says there may be mature content and click to continue? Well that question comes up in Russian, so don’t be worried. It’s just cyrillic and not some phishing scheme or anything.
  5. Lion:  Rayne Morgan’s post featuring Lelutka’s Jolie hair has two pictures, one of which has been photoshopped into a glorious study of the hair with fabulous lighting. Very beautiful.

Cajsa Fast Five: April 9th

Fast Five What a day! We get to meet a new survivor from Gallifrey. That does not happen often. There’s a crazy, fun sim highlighted and SL textures may be changing dramatically in the future.

  1. The Time Lord’s Idiot Cousin: Whovians rejoice! There is another Time Lord in town, but he’s a bit on the sad side as his Tardis has no door. If you love the Doctor, you should check out Caduceus Lorakeet’s fun and clever new post.  And alert the BBC.
  2. Summer Vacation Time: Jackson Redstar features an incredibly whimsical sim that makes me want to log in right now and not even finish this post. The sacrifices I make for you readers!  Continue reading

Cajsa Fast Five: April 7th

Fast Five I just finished up my set at The Velvet. This morning’s set featured the greats of West Coast Jazz – Miles Davis, Dave Brubeck, Chet Baker and Eric Dolphy and others. Such a mellow way to wake up. The Fast Five are not mellow, though. Anything but mellow…

  1. No Booze in General: Ciaran Laval notes there seems to be a crackdown on alcohol and cigarettes on Marketplace.  What struck me as ironic is that the article was prompted by a Stella Artois ad in the Google AdSense ads for the forums. Makes me wonder if Second Life® is not actually following that policy with the AdSense ads. It’s even stranger, because Google AdSense’s TOS prohibits blog content that promotes alcohol, smoking or drugs, but will then run ads promoting alcohol.  Continue reading

Cajsa Fast Five: April 6th

Fast Five Today is the final day of AVENUE Fashion Week and I will be heading in-world to watch the shows soon. There are five shows today, so lots to see.  OF course, there is also a lot to to see on the blogs.

  1. Challenge Gallery 33: Watch – The Single Frame Stories photos inspired by the challenge word “Watch” are gathered together. It is so much fun to see who different people run with their ideas, all in different directions.
  2. The Grey-haired Librarian: Dim Sum runs into another cat! I love this series and today’s picture features another beautiful cat.
  3. 1000L Cash Prize: Caduceus Lorakeet writes about a 55 question meme with a cash prize for the one with the best answers and other random prizes. It’s totally funny and the pics Caduceus took to comply with the secondary contest – a very random contest – are great.
  4. Fashion Week: Tanaquil looks gorgeous in the fabulous picture. The styling is great and I must have that dress.
  5. 054: Yukachoco Magic looks beautiful and I totally love the tops she is wearing. The styling is fantastic and so is the setting. I wish I knew where it was.

Cajsa Fast Five: April 5th

Fast Five Today we have a new episode of The Drax Files, a magazine feature of The Velvet where I work as a DJ and some cute styles that are colorful and cheery. There’s also news about the new CHUI in  Second Life®. Am I silly for reading CHUI and thinking Star Wars?

  1. The Velvet: Where Music Matters: Compe Lockwood and Sabbian Paine give a lovely introduction to The Velvet for BOSL Magazine. It’s the best club on the grid, and of course, I am not the least biased by DJ’ing there two days a week. Not at all. The article is on page 190.  Continue reading

Cajsa Fast Five: April 4th

Fast Five So one of my sisters has a birthday today and another has a birthday on the 11th and if you add the 4th and 11th, you get my birthday. For some reason that always seemed so significant when I was a kid. Now, not so much.

  1. Delicatessen – Meta Body II: Hybie Mynx revisits Delicatessen and discovers it has changed dramatically. Be sure to check out her post about the beautiful new changes and the second iteration of Meta Body Continue reading

Cajsa Fast Five: April 3rd

Fast Five It’s Fashion Week, so I hope you are heading out to the runway shows. It can be dangerous, I spent nearly all my money yesterday and there are still more shows to come. But don’t forget to check out the Fast Five after the show.

  1. An Event to Remember: Harper Ganesvoort employs her writing skills to create a fun short story illustrated with Second Life photos. I love to see creative and singular approaches to blogging and that is what she brings.
  2. Meet This Sim: Memenot Mori with Finns: I almost did not click on this title in my reader because we have all seen Memento Mori so very many times. However, guest photographer makes it new again in this first post of a new series from Leda Carter.
  3. My SL Pet Peeves Meme: Strawberry Singh has a new meme. People are sharing their pet peeves. This can go two ways – into a spiral of negativity or into a storm of catharsis. Let’s all try and make it the latter.
  4. Spread Your Wings and Fly: Carthalis Rossini brings to life another amazing alternative avatar – an avian being this time. More than anyone, he consistently makes alternative avatars appealing.
  5. Loovus Dzevavor for AVENUE Spring/Summer 2013 Fashion Week: Mokatana Boa does a fabulous job highlighting some of the collection. I went to the show yesterday and was blown away. I spent way more than I can afford, but if you look at these pictures you will understand how that happened.

Cajsa Fast Five: April 1st

Fast Five It’s April Fools Day. No tricks here though. Just beautiful dresses and beautiful pictures. Because it’s April Fools, I decided to skip the news articles today, because… However, I do have to mention Firestorm’s big new push to bring the viewer to your mobile phone.

  1. The 35th Opens the Heavens: Bodza Blackadder shows this amazing dress, a real show-stopper. Be sure to click on the photo so you can see it full-size to appreciate all the fabulous details. /me wants.
  2. Outta Here: Lauryn Teardrop has a fun picture with just a bit of retro feel. And there is a poll!
  3. Springtime Romance: Teshan2222 Wycliffe has a fabulous trio of looks that are perfect for spring. I love that her photos are instantly identifiable as hers.
  4. Caught Up in the Whirlpool of Life: Wise Sandalwood’s photo is magical. She also mentions a new project from ADCreations to release an outfit inspired by a book each month.
  5. 065- Patchwork Ducks – This might be my favorite Where’s Dim Sum? yet.
