Love In Mysterious Ways

Sometimes I feel more in love than others. I am invested so deeply that sometimes I forget the love and passion that drives the machine of a love affair – even when it’s a long term one. Continue reading

A Damn Fine Cup of Coffee

150315_002

Relaxing at Agent Cooper’s desk with a damn fine cup of coffee from Schadenfreude.

When my father died, my sisters called to tell me. It was not unexpected and was, in many ways, a relief for him and everyone who loved him, but that does not lessen the loss or the finality of death. They gave me the news and I sat there, quietly stunned at how much more painful it was than Thought it would be. I think I whimpered, trying not to cry. So my oldest sister said, “Go make yourself a coffee. It’s a good thing. I’ll call you back after you’ve had a coffee.” I had to laugh to myself, because coffee as comfort is so very much the legacy of my dad, a first generation Swedish American.

Such a messy desk! some of the mess comes in a great collection of clutter from Tres Blah at The Arcade that are must have pieces to turn houses into homes.

Coffee is a ritual for Scandinavians who consume more coffee per capita than any other people in the world. Most people in the US are familiar with coffee breaks at the work place, but in a Swedish American home, there are coffee breaks every day, when we would all sit down together and enjoy a good cup of coffee with some bread and cheese or some fruit or a dessert. And by all, I mean all. Children get coffee with milk as soon as they are old enough to hold a cup without spilling it. Continue reading

Twin Peaks and Porn

The current round of COLLABOR88 has kicked off with an homage to one of my favorite stories – TWIN PEAKS. The actual name of the theme is MOONLESS NIGHT, and mood board hearkens to damn fine coffee and Laura Palmer’s compatriots.  Continue reading

Mirrors of Beauty

I ran the gauntlet yesterday, getting my stamp card completed for ENCHANTMENT. I may actually end up going back and picking up another item and running it again, as there was more I really loved at the event and hey, lovely free gifts are good. But for this morning, I’m having trouble getting moving even with my little dog Spike reminding me we need to get going.

He’s a pushy little bastard to be sure.  Continue reading

A Valediction for Parenthood

Snapshot

I watched the penultimate episode of Parenthood last night. It was emotionally exhausting and I cried far harder than I probably should over fictional characters in a television series. When I watched the first episode of Parenthood six years ago, I had no idea what I was getting into. It was such a quiet show that seemed to have such humble ambitions – merely telling the story of an American family. I think there was a clue right from the start, though, that this was going to be more than a post-milennial Eight is Enough. After all, their last name is Braverman.

Snapshot

Braverman! That name must be something to live up to. I actually looked up the name’s origin because I was pretty sure it did not originate with some courageous Saxon stalwart holding off a Viking horde and being called a “braver man” than most and then passing that name on for generations. It turns out to be Jewish surname from the Ukraine, a form of the Yiddish word braver which means good or honest. At least that is what most of the sources say, though one source says it means distiller. Well, the Braverman family does like their spirits. The name is perfect, though, there is something good and honest about this family and their quotidian dramas.

Catching Up

Snapshot

I shot these pics a few days ago wearing an outfit featuring items from last month’s Collabor88. Don’t despair, you can now find them in the store. The top, leggings and boots are all from Tres Blah. They come with a puffy jacket, too, but I left that off. Growing up in a place where it’s really cold, I have never understood those puffy jackets with no sleeves as anything more than an extra lining if your coat is not warm enough.

Mmmmmmmm, Jackets

Snapshot

I dreamed I was there in Jacket Heaven and oh what a beautiful dream. But then, it was not a dream! Tres Blah really did release a perfect jacket in five metallics just in time for Christmas. I love jackets and need them desperately because so many tops and dresses are strapless. I don’t mind strapless in a formal, but for everyday – nope, not for me. I want some sleeves! These jackets are sold along with some cute rompers at N°21, the event that just opened yesterday. Yes, I hit teleport several times to get in, but once I was there, everything razzed easily and quickly and I cam-shopped happily.

Snapshot

Speaking of formals, Baiastice has released the annual Winter Collection of formals just in time for the holidays and they are gorgeous. This classic comes with a regular skirt or one with a tulle overskirt. I elected to wear the tulle. I snapped a picture when I was over at The Liaison Collaborative picking up the necklace and earrings I am wearing. It’s beautifully decorated for the holidays.

A very, very fine house

My House

from left to right: [we’re CLOSED] summer flowers and shrubs, Silver Birch from Studio Skye, Lark – Desert Retreat Deck – Painted, [ba] hollyhocks, Trompe Loeil – Brooklyn Carriage , Sway’s [Door Mat] international, [we’re CLOSED] tree 01D spring

I do not move houses very often in Second Life® or in real life. It is just too much work. However, when the Brooklyn Carriage House came out at Collabor88 last month, I could not resist its bright red doors and fine brickwork. I finally have everything arranged, but will be moving shortly. I thought I would share before I pack it all up. I love the house and how it looks, but I guess my four year old computer really cannot handle such an open floor plan where everything fezzes all the time. I need rooms and walls that limit the textures my computer has to handle, so I will be on my way to a more traditional space. That is totally a reflection of my computer’s age and is no criticism of the house – which is gorgeous, very, very gorgeous.

My outdoor decor is pretty limited, just a few shrubs and bushes from We’re Closed, a couple trees and the gorgeous deck from Lark that was released at The Liaison Collaborative a few month’s back.

If Loving Tres Blah Is Wrong…

…I don’t want to be right.

No one reaches into my head quite like Tres Blah’s ARCADE ITEMS to describe what I’d like to have exist in all of my lives.  Calm, beautiful pieces with style and taste, that reflect the sort of gorgeous things I would choose surround myself with.

Thus, in my Second LIfe, I do. Continue reading

Check’Em – For Squint – And For Yourself

Our Avatars will never get breast cancer. Our breasts and bodies will never be ravaged by disease of any sort. We have the luxury of being perfect every day, no matter what.

But our Avatars can remind our real selves of things that we want, things we can aspire to, and things that are IMPORTANT.

A very small thing is a monthly breast exam. Early detection is the key.  More women than I care to think of that I care about have endured this battle, and for some it did not end in their favor.

I’ve promised Cajsa I’d made something to promote Breast Self Exams for some time, but life gets in the way. Just like not checking your breast for lumps, life gets in the way, you forget to do it.

Today is the one year anniversary of the day that we lost a brillant creator, and a lovely friend, to cancer. Her journey began with breast cancer. I still miss her and her amazing wit, and her startling timeless designs.

You can pick up this pose for free, to help remind us all to take better care of ourselves in the RL at PRETENSE POSES on Juicy.
