Baby, It’s Cold Outside

Snapshot

The sweater is from Gizza. Please note that the hands are tucked into pockets. The alpha for this dress alphas out your arms and hands, leaving them in this position no matter what pose you use. I did not at first realize this and fiddled around trying to figure out why the sleeves weren’t rigged to my arms. I had the Slink mesh hands on and they were just flying around unattached. When I finally figured it out, i felt so silly. So now you know.

When my brother was in the Air Force, he served in Germany where he bought this marvelous Grundig stereo that he sent home as a gift to my parents. My father was a musician and singer in an area band and both of them loved music. I grew up listening to everything from opera to bluegrass and gospel to jazz. One of my favorite albums was a collection of duets with jazz trumpeter Al Hirt and Ann Margret called Beauty and the Beard. His voice had such gruff humor and hers was so flirty and arch that there was this amazing vocal chemistry. One of the songs was Baby, It’s Cold Outside and I just loved it.

This cozy sweater from Gizza made me think of that song. Especially with the snow, I have lived in Oregon long enough to think of cold weather when I see snow, unlike in Minnesota where I grew up. There, in winter, it is so cold all the moisture is drawn from the air. It has to warm up to snow.

A Valediction for Parenthood

Snapshot

I watched the penultimate episode of Parenthood last night. It was emotionally exhausting and I cried far harder than I probably should over fictional characters in a television series. When I watched the first episode of Parenthood six years ago, I had no idea what I was getting into. It was such a quiet show that seemed to have such humble ambitions – merely telling the story of an American family. I think there was a clue right from the start, though, that this was going to be more than a post-milennial Eight is Enough. After all, their last name is Braverman.

Snapshot

Braverman! That name must be something to live up to. I actually looked up the name’s origin because I was pretty sure it did not originate with some courageous Saxon stalwart holding off a Viking horde and being called a “braver man” than most and then passing that name on for generations. It turns out to be Jewish surname from the Ukraine, a form of the Yiddish word braver which means good or honest. At least that is what most of the sources say, though one source says it means distiller. Well, the Braverman family does like their spirits. The name is perfect, though, there is something good and honest about this family and their quotidian dramas.

It’s Twelve 23

My presents are wrapped, mostly. I think I’m done. I hope I’m done. I have new GORGEOUS gift boxes from Alouette if you’re looking for some. I get annoyed when I still see gift boxes that are like 20 prims. Really? These are awesome and low land impact for your decorating pleasure. I prefer to put my gifts under the tree and I got a script from Artizan for delivery, it only will give each box to the person I designate. It makes me happy to see my tree so full of gifts for my friends. Continue reading

Snowbunny

Direct from SL -141210

It is snowing in Second Life® and warm weather clothing is not only de rigueur, it is downright a necessity. The December collection at Collabor88 is your winter outfitters headquarters with all kinds of outwear options. I decided to mix up a few pieces, taking these gorgeous wool trousers from Baiastice and the lovely wool sweater, jacket and scarf from The Secret Store. There are multiple color options so you can mix and match enough outfits for the entire month – they all look great together. I went for a monochromatic white, grey and black look.

Comfy Cozy

Untitled

It’s so cold outside, but I am snug as a bug inside the little snuggery from tarte for The Arcade. With a wall of windows facing south I get enough sun to warm up.

Untitled

Of course, layering is the real secret to warmth. This lovely outfit from PixiCat for Collabor88 is not only warm as the rug that snugs the bug, but it is really an entire wardrobe. The leggings and the jacket come with texture-changing HUDS. The sweater is tentacle, so the only limit is statistical. Continue reading

To the Manor Born

141205_009While I am not to the manor born, nor are most of us, we can look the part in beautiful clothing such as this lovely BodyCon dress from Indyra with fabulous baroque lace over illusion. Moving into the manor from RageWorks at The Arcade doesn’t hurt, either.

Designer Download — Betty Doyle

DesignerDownload
All of us at It’s Only Fashion are long-time fans of Betty Doyle with 166 posts (so far)  that feature items from Ingenue. It is a long love affair, but there is no seven-year-itch because Doyle makes customer satisfaction and convenience uppermost. For example, with the plethora of mesh attachments, some creators are throwing up their hands and presenting one option. Meanwhile, Doyle packages shoes for multiple mesh options as well as the old default foot. She is acutely aware that not all of her customers are following the newest, the latest, the trendiest and she makes sure they are happy, too.

Ingenue's Tricky Little Wicky

The first time Ingenue was featured at It’s Only Fashion was in April 2008 – the Tricky Little Wicky dress.

It’s Only Fashion: What was your first day in Second Life like? What made you stick it out through the learning curve?

Betty Doyle: I think I spent something like my first four or five days on Orientation Island. For some reason, I thought I had to learn to do everything before I went over to the mainland. I finally decided that figuring out scripting just wasn’t going to happen, so made the jump! I was excited by the idea of being able to make things from the moment I read about Second Life. I’m not sure I would have stayed if you couldn’t do that.
