I got me to Japan Fair

0411_002

After Gidge’s said Get Thee To Japan Fair the other day, I knew I better head over to Japan Fair  as soon as possible.  Japan Fair is raising money for ShelterBox a charity that helps people who are displaced whether by natural disasters or the manmade disaster of political violence providing them with a box containing emergency supplies necessary for survival. They do amazing work all around the world and deserve your support.

However, there’s ample reason to go in addition to supporting ShelterBox. These boots, for example, are reason enough for a trip to the fair. From Coco, you can wear them with or without socks. They come in several colors but given it’s springtime, I opted for the lovely blue.

I only have eyes for you

A couple weeks ago, I checked out the Billboard Jazz charts and discovered the new-to-me vocalist Cecile McLorin Salvant and fell instantly in love. I hope I can persuade you to take a listen. She reminds me of Billie Holliday, more so than any other jazz singer. I watched her performance of the old standard I Only Have Eyes For You – with her unique interpretation. I hope you check her out on iTunes or YouTube. You won’t be disappointed.

This top from Goucci makes me feel very jazzy all by itself. It has a classic Chanel-inspired shape and aesthetic. Everyone will have eyes only for you if you wear it. It comes in red, blue, yellow and black. I paired with some black and white striped pants from Coco that are truly hot jazz in fabric.

Countdown has a new cocktail dress with a snug strapless snakeskin bodice and a frothy, sheer full skirt. It is the perfect marriage of modern and traditional, hard and soft. I decided to tip the scales a bit adding a short, cropped white leather jacket from Coco.  Continue reading

Denim.. Denim.. and MORE Denim

The 52-Week’s of Color Bloggers Challenge is moving right along nicely (without me as I am pathetically slow) but here I am on week 31 and that week is Denim. How lucky was I that it also coincided with the week that Coco had a giant sale and I found this ADORABLE patchwork denim dress ON SALE!!!

Lazuri at Accessory Fair

There’s something so summery and fun about a shift dress and the ones at Coco are amazing. This Red Art Print version is fun and vibrant. The picture print is so whimsical and then adding the big flowers, you end up with something that makes me smile.

Don't you just love Spring Sales???

Hiya!

As you shopping maniacs might have noticed, on SL Spring brings lots of sales and fashion events, I wish this could happen in RL too^^  Anyway, like a crazy bee attracted to the tastier pollen ever, I’ve been floating around some of my fav stores that are having sales these days and I got such cuuuuute stuff at such gooood prices that I can’t help but suggest you to take advantage of these sales too.

Here’s part of the items I purchased:

Lemme pose

The lovely hair is from fri.day, I love the way the loose ponytail rests on the shoulder, it looks so realistic. The dress is from Kyoot, it’s being sold in different textures, I chose this one ‘cause I find it really sweet and springy at the same time 🙂   The Spring sale at Kyoot should be over now, check anyway or buy anyway…heheheh.

Get it?

These boots from COCO are all over the feeds, it’s the first item I obviously purchased at The Dressing Room which is celebrating its first anniversary, and I matched them with the awesome hoodie from Grixdale, the jean mini-skirt from Berries Inc. and the top from Kyoot. Interesting outfit, don’t you think so? 😛

The Burlington Northern Don't Stop Here Anymore

mar31_005
As soon as I played this pose animation from Status, I was reminded of countless weekend afternoons spent playing with my nieces down in the pasture. We would ride horses or walk down to Ruffy Brook and after semi-swimming (the deepest spot was about 4 feet deep) we would walk the rails. There was a railroad trestle that crossed a deep ravine over the brook and we would put our ears down and listen for trains. If we heard nothing, we would walk across the trestle. It was always exciting because you could see through the railroad ties and could scare yourself with thoughts of stepping wrong and having one leg fall through the ties or with thoughts of oncoming trains or even of slipping off the rails and falling down into the ravine. Of course, none of those things ever happened. As we got older, we got bolder and would ride horse across the trestle which goes to show that a well-trained horse can be just as idiotic as the person riding him.

Sadly, my nieces children won’t get that same visceral thrill of imminent, but unlikely, death by train as Burlington Northern closed that line. Of course, that makes me think of Jean Richie’s mournful song, The L&N Don’t Stop Here Anymore, that tells how the loss of the Louisville & Nashville Railroad closed the mines and impoverished the people of Hazard, Kentucky. When the Burlington Northern shut down jobs were lost throughout the northern counties of Minnesota. Thanks to the stimulus, unemployment is at a 10 year low of 17%. I know that’s much higher than most places but it was near 30% when I still lived there. It sounds dire, but country folk have more ways to make do than people in cities. And to be completely honest, wild asparagus is much tastier than regular asparagus.

Never thought I’d live to lean to love the coaldust
Never thought I’d pray to hear those temples roar
But God I wish the grass would turn to money
And then them greenbacks would fill my pockets once more
I was born and raised at the mouth of the Hazard Holler
Where the coal cars rolled and rumbled past my door
But now they stand in a rusty road of all empties
Because the L & N don’t stop here anymore
