The Week of Yummy Goodness

I had my birthday this week – which meant Angel Food Cake and Stawberries & Cream. Yummy goodness I limit to once a year. It was amazingly good and I had two slices!! Add to that the arrival of Belleza’s Elle and Zaara’s new retro-hot lingerie and last week was definitely a week of yummy goodness.

Now, I am not a skin reviewer who goes along the seam lines looking for flaws – though from what I can tell, if I did I would find none. I judge skins on how they make me feel and how I look. I don’t like to edit my shape – and prefer skins that keep my looking like me – just with different makeups and emphasis/shades.  Belleza is perfect for that.

Accessorize Me

My instinct when choosing jewelry and other accessories is to choose something with the dominant color in the outfit, but sometimes it’s fun and successful to choose a different option – either choosing a color that is present but in small amounts or choosing an absent color that interacts well with your main color.  For this luscious purple print blouse from Atelier la Bubu, I chose orange jewelry and shoes reasoning that purple would just disappear in the activity of the textile.  The textile designer also included orange, in very small amounts.

Choosing a color that works comes naturally for most of us. We just know what looks good to our eyes. However, if you are ever curious why colors look good to you, you can look to color theory for the answer. In essence, color theory explains why our innate sense of color harmony prefers some color combinations and thinks others clash.  For example, orange is one of the colors associated with purple in the Triadic color scheme which splits the color wheel into thirds. Using a triadic scheme does not obligate you to use all three colors – just helps you find colors that will harmonize with each other. You can see your many options below in this chart of purple color schemes.

The Long and the Short of It

Sonatta Morales is a genius at making gorgeous gowns that you can picture all the great divas wearing. When I am in her store looking at the clothing, I am seeing Bette Davis, Joan Crawford, Greta Garbo, Marlene Dietrich and Clara Bow – and the rest of the pantheon of glamor and talent. This *8* Jewel gown is certainly one of those fit for a diva – but unlike a RL gown, this one comes in long and short versions with a quick adding of a prim or three.

Quick Look:Ray Skin LOTD

posted by Gidge Uriza

I’m not sure why I never realized Ray Skin had hair, unless it’s really new. But after picking up this awesomesauce hair, it was totally a case of “my hair was cute till I went to the beach, I SWEAR”. And I had to have a bikini.

Luckily, Ray Skin has a lovely selection of DOLLARBIE bikinis!

Happy Tuesday! Back to the beach I go!

Olive's Mermaid

posted by Gidge Uriza

As a child, I had a book of proper fairy tales that didn’t have the Politically Correct and Sanitized versions in it. I still loved the stories – but was always especially mesmerized by the story of the Little Mermaid – who in the story, endured the agony of walking on knives with each step she took on land. This was the price she paid for having legs and being with the man she’d fallen in love with.

Mermaids are always a little sad to me, because of this. Continue reading

Rite of Spring

posted by Gidge Uriza

Spring is coming. Where I live everything is in bloom and it’s been sweltering warm in the afternoons.  So how else to celebrate the Earth shrugging off winters cold and grey ugliness than to go dancing in the flowers and forests at Oubliette?

I'm an Excellent Dancer

I actually wasn’t paying attention – and wore the shape that came with this costume from Wishbox. 🙂 It’s cute. Continue reading

Spring Flowers from Baiastice:Big Hair From Exile

posted by Gidge Uriza

As we continue to drink from the well of spring releases at Baiastice, I gotta admit this is in my top two faves of her new line. It’s so fantastically floral and retro inspired without any of the kitsch that can come with it.

Ok Ok Ok, I like kitsch – but someone who can pull the look off without it – you haz my admiration. Plus you know, it’s pink and purple which in my world = WIN.

The cutaways at the waistline had me confused at first seeing them on the vendor – I thought she’d modeled them on a freakishly skinny avatar. D’oh! But no, they are designed to make sure that you are glad your avatar does her crunches.

Big hair is always in style somewhere. TAKE THAT HATERS!

*edited for Winter Jefferson. Yes it said SOMEONE but you know, now it’s fixed. Grrrr.

Saint Patricks Day Does NOT Have To Be Tacky

posted by Gidge Uriza

Ziezo, the elegant ballgown recently released by Sascha’s Designs is a beautiful example of the basic truth that the wearing o’ the green can be elegant.  I enjoy a fun tacky party as much as the next girl, but if you events calendar features more dressy soirees – there is hope!

This gown is available in a rainbow of deep hued jewel tones but the green is super elegant and totally holiday appropriate.

I’m ready. Who has my green beer? (I didn’t say to dismiss EVERYTHING that was tacky)

I Kept Trubble, I Knew I'd Need It

posted by Gidge Uriza

I knew when I saw the Erin dress from Trubble that I was going to need it. I didn’t know what FOR, but I knew I would indeed want it for something. So I threw it out on my bedroom floor by the window. WEEKS ago. I’ve been staring at it so long, it was in danger of becoming artwork. Continue reading
