My first job, my first REAL job that wasn’t food related or convenience store related, was FASHION CONSULTANT. No lie. That was the job title. It was sort of a dubious title at best as there wasn’t much FASHION going on in my opinion, but in fact my job was to help ladies put together outfits and “looks” – starting with FOUNDATION GARMENTS.
*shudder*
I’m far too lazy to dress myself, though. Luckily, much like Cinderella, I find that I’ve got four legged creatures at hand ready to prance and sing whilst selecting my attire for the day. It all starts when I open my eyes and find two of my beloveds whispering to me that it’s time to awake- and be gorgeous.
Luckily, I’ve already got that part done. Continue reading

The Jellyfish Gallery

I have a confession. This shoot started with the jewelry. Anytime there is new jewelry at Donna Flora I’m pretty much in love and stoned on girly goodness to such a point that it’s difficult for me to actually MAKE blogging decisions. But I struggled through my joy and decided it was a purple and yellow moment for me today.
But then, where to shoot?
I was really, really in love with what I had on and decided to pull out Cajsa’s big list of In World Photo Sites and well, I just picked some place RANDOM.
Turned out, I was someplace wonderful. Continue reading
The Checklist
Talk to any Second Life® photographer or blogger and they will confess to committing multiple mistakes. Anyone who says otherwise is either annoyingly perfect or blindingly unobservant. Just the other day I had to reshoot my entire blog post because I left the camera set to show the User Interface – an elementary error that could have been prevented with a simple checklist. I notice simple errors in others’ photos as well. A prim is missing from a gown or is only partially rezzed, so the full beauty of the gown is lost. An earring floats in space. Hands are eaten by body parts. Mistakes happen to all of us. However, I am the type of person that likes to problem solve so after having to reshoot my entire blog post, I thought about making a checklist that might help me avoid making these sorts of mistakes. I asked for help on plurk and got lots of suggestions for the checklist – and of course, readers are encouraged to add their own items. So here it is:
Check Your Pose:
Check your pose from multiple angles. There are so many poses that if the pose causes intersections, just keep looking until you find one that works with what you are wearing.
- Are you hands in your skirt?
- Are your feet touching the ground or are you floating above/below it?
- Are your ribs eating the pattern of the top?
- Are you legs sticking out of your prim skirt?
- Does the pose send your prim nails flying?
- Are your eyes focused properly?
- Are you wearing an alpha texture and standing in front of an alpha texture? Make sure they don’t make parts of your clothing or hair disappear.
- Can minor adjustments make the pose work? You can make small shape adjustments or use Avimote to make a pose work.
The Clothing & Prims
Make sure everything is rezzed and fitted. Use rebake if necessary. You might even need to relog, but it’s essential that your clothes and skin are fully rezzed. Fuzzy is not lovely. Also take the time to check the fit. Not all avatars are the same size, so prims may need adjustment. There are links to many tutorials on the bottom of my sidebar in case you want additional help.
- Have you properly fitted all prim attachments?
- Are you wearing both right and left jacket cuffs and shoulder pieces? Sometimes adding accessories and jewelry, prims are detached without our noticing.
- Is your hair in your shoulders/breasts/chest? You can change your pose or you can use the Hide Edited option to derender individual hair prims.
- Are there gaps around your hair at hairline? Does it need to be resized?
- Are your layers worn properly? Tattoo under the shirt, wearing the entire shirt including bottom?
- Are all textures and prims rezzed completely?
- Are you wearing the correct shape? Skirt shape with system skirts and NOT with pants.
- Are the prim feet/hands tinted for your windlight settings
- Are there stray alpha layers that should not be on?
- Is the hair base visible and is it the right color?
- Are there bits and pieces on full bright that should be turned off?
- Do you have prim nails on both hands?
- Did you fit your earrings for the closeup?
- Did you check the photo from the store to verify that things fit and are sized as intended?
- Did you write down the clothing details before removing clothes?
The Camera
There’s nothing more frustrating than doing all the work to select a perfect pose, fit all the prims and get your windlight settings perfect and then leave Second Life to discover your pictures are unusable. Check your camera settings and check one of the pics you have saved to disk so your hard work is not wasted.
- Do you have it set to the right resolution?
- Did you check your graphic settings?
- Is anti-aliasing on?
- Did you use Ctl-0 (zero) to shoot your close-ups?
- While focusing on the face, are you making sure that the rest of your body and clothing is rezzed?
- Do you have the camera set to show the interface or HUD?
- Did you look at one of the saved pics before breaking down any set, poses or settings?
- If your viewer has a mosaic bug with your video card and there is water in the picture, have you set your photo size to no larger than the screen size?
In addition to this checklist, there are many great tutorials to help you be a better photographer and/or blogger. There’s a section of my blogroll called Tutorials, you can find many good resources there.
A Moonlit Night at Linda Voc

Shopping in Second Life has lots of pleasures – including shopping to help others. For example, the gorgeous skirt is on sale at the Help Japan event and 100% of its proceeds will go to help respond to the people of Japan. The top is an adorable dress on sale at The Dressing Room. Gidge blogged it the other day, but I wanted to show you how well it works as a top as well.

I shot my pictures at Linda Voc, the home sim for Deviant Girls. I was shopping there and will soon be showing you some finds. Right now, though, I want to show you what a gorgeous sim it is. You won’t see this at the shopping mall.

Knock Knock

It was just happenstance that I was at the Help Japan Event when I read the invite from Achariya to come participate in the final hurrah photo for her blog. It said the them was orange. I like orange and could have pulled from inventory, but I was already looking at this dress for the fundraiser. New, orange and lindens for Japan. Perfect.

And the Fabbie Goes To… Achariya
Achariya Maktoum began blogging just a week after I joined Second Life®, well before I even knew there were fashion blogs. When I began reading the blogs, her posts always stood out for several reasons. The creativity of her styling, her distinct voice and the quality of her writing. Never content to be good, she also actively worked to learn new skills in editing her photos and developed a photographic vision as distinct and powerful as her writing. Today she posted her last post as she has decided to focus her talent for writing in real life pursuits. While that is sensible in terms of career and in life, I know we will all miss her imaginative vision and her unique voice.

Acha invited friends to show up for a last post picture. It's a testament to her that so many people were thrilled to come, even if not thrilled at the reason.
Achariya’s blog became a favorite of many readers for several reasons. Primarily, she offered something different. She loved alternative fashions and skins and readers could never predict what she might come up with from one day to the next. She also had a lot of common sense. For example, an old complaint about fashion blogging has been that bloggers blog the same things. As she pointed out in her Same Damn Thing Challenge, that even so, they would look very different. She also was a firm supporter of content designers and a sensible voice in the controversy over how to respond to content theft, doing a series of posts highlighting creators and asking their experience and thoughts on content theft. And of course, Boy Acha has been appearing in this blog for the last few months as she jumped in to help keep this blog active while I was so sick. Because that’s what she’s like, ready to jump in with both feet when she’s needed. So, the Fabbie for today and for always goes to Achariya. Good luck with your new ventures.
PSSSSSST! I HAS A SECRET!!!!

Shhhhh! I am not supposed to be saying this! But some of you may have seen the drama Elusyve and I had with our store mascots over at GESTICULATE! Well – we had NO choice but to simply let them all go and hold auditions for new store mascots.
As that excitement grew, we realized that the gnomes were never EVER going to let us go – so we did the only thing we could. We completely rebranded and moved everything. As a matter of fact, the gnomes don’t know we’re gone. They’re still sitting around listening to the lucky chair call letters at the old place. Continue reading
Quick Look:Adam N Eve New Tattoo Eye Makeups!

I happen to know that Fantasy Faire is coming up (or is it Fantasy Fest? – too many Faires and Fests and what not I can’t keep them all straight) – REGARDLESS, Adam N Eve has just released some delicate and beautiful eye makeups that I think Faeries, Sprites, and various other creatures of the Seelie or Unseelie Courts might find attractive.
Plus, I really like them too. Continue reading
