Hello everyone! I’m Evangeline, and I’m one of the new bloggers here at It’s Only Fashion! I’m super happy and honored to be included and I hope you guys enjoy my seemingly random posts. (I’m a bit crazy) Today I wanted to blog about the SUMMERFEST! The SUMMERFEST is an 2 week long event featuring 40 of some of Second Life’s finest designers. The event opened up yesterday and it’s held on a really lovely beach. I like this Plastik outfit. I’ve been re-reading all of Anne McCaffrey’s Dragonriders of Pern books, and this outfit plus the little ~silentsparrow~ dragon reminds me of some kind of saucy dragonrider.
I am relearning all the things. How to use Gimp instead of Photoshop, how to use Firestorm instead of the Second Life main browser, how to wear mesh. Take a bit of time off, and nothing slows down! But here I am with shadows, a decent DPI, and cropped photos. Ah well, gotta restart somewhere.

Leather and lace probably would have become a fashion cliche without Stevie Nicks, but she certainly helped it along. Has there been a season of Project Runway without some leather and lace walking down the runway, usually with flowing tulle. Well, it does not have to be a cliche as you can see in this very modern minimalist one button jacket with the small lace punctuation for R2 for Collabor88 and these great Napa leather pants from NYU for faMESHed.
Modern sensibilities continue with the jackets square cut open back. This is as angular as the front is curved. This is a jacket that is thoroughly modern with its few touches of romanticism nearly invisible, as in the black on black brocade sleeves. It is still feminine, but strong and modern. It looks forward, not back and there is not a sentimental stitch in its fabric. You can find it at Collabor88 in an array of bright colors as well as this black and white with a coordinating miniskirt. I opted to pair it with the NYU leather pants to change it up and drop any possibility of it bursting into song “you give me your leather…Take from me my lace.”

The problem I find with most tutorials is that they are guides to enhance a skill you already have. It’s difficult to ever find a tutorial that assumes you don’t know how anything works, or what to do. So for SL10B this year, I decided my contribution would be the sort of tutorial I’m always trying to find – a tutorial for people like me who haven’t a CLUE how to do something.
For many people, there’s tweaks and adjustments that make them and their avatar unique. Some of the best bloggers though, are those who control their light and force the grid to do their bidding without the aid of PS or other tools.
You have to start somewhere, and making something simple is always the best way. So what I’m going to do is teach you the way I learned. Who knows, maybe you’ll be a new Strawberry Singh or Gogolita when you get good enough at it. Cajsa’s a pro, but this is beginner stuff. Summer fashions often feature the crisp red, white and blues of nautical fashion. U.F.O.’s gorgeous little top for Collabor88 put me in mind of that with its white stripes. The top comes with a HUD allowing the wearer to choose an array of colors for the straps and so of course I chose red. U.F.O. also made matching skirts in several shades of denim, each with a print option with lips all over it. I think the outfit is adorable, which is why it was worth the trouble it took to get it to fit.
I had one difficulty with this outfit in that I had to do a lot more than minor tweaks to my shapet. I had to significantly reduce my body fat and shoulder width, all trying to reduce the size of my arms so they fit the sleeves. I don’t mind adjusting a shape a little for a brand, though. I simply save a copy with the brand name, so I will have it on hand the next time I wear something from them. So now I have a new Cajsa UFO shape tucked away in my shape folder. Continue reading
Let’s talk about how hard it is to find ANYTHING miniature in SL. Making this poster was very time consuming and difficult but I’m loving the end result. I made the buildings, bridge, roads, pose, trees and grass myself. Basically, the only thing I didn’t make are the vehicles and the things I’m wearing. Post Processing involved adding the ppl and some of the background which is from the original poster. I also had to mod my shape a bit too, I made her SUPA TALL, like, I maxxed out the height stuff. Strawberry Singh issued this challenge and since I was already making movie inspired pictures for the Hair Fair Contest…I thought what the hell. I hope you enjoy my poster as much I do!

Sometimes, late at night on a high platform with no contact with anyone, human or furry or bot, I wonder why the hell I play Second Life. This thought usually comes after my sixth or seventh crash (Damn you, OSX), to the sound of my husband’s voice: “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over.” “True,” I usually growl back. “But this time I changed this one setting over here so maybe it won’t cra — damnit.”
At any rate, I figured out that my raison d’etre in Second Life is to look cute in other people’s creations. So as long as I keep enjoying doing that, I’ll put up with a little insanity.
