The Festival Of The Pumpkin Has Begun!

It is possibly my favorite time of the year, the time when we all get excited about playing dress up in the world in which we already play dress up.  Schadenfreude has released the best treat bucket around (yell at strangers TOUCH MY BUCKET! they love it) and if you are the trick or treat sort you’ll need it.

Go inside the Elephant and you will find it inside on the floor, along with a dizzying array of fun new pieces recently released.

Today I’m also wearing my first fall sweater acquisition of 2011 from Somnia. These have been released in a huge rainbow of colors (thanks Sanura) but I was in a fall sort of mood. I should get some sweaters RL. I really don’t own any.

Oh and I’d like to point out, I got these AWESOME boots at G Field last year and was chastised that they were a waste because I’d only wear them once. They are awesome pumpkin print cowboy boots.

Boots this awesome are NEVER a waste.

1962 and 52 Years of Music

1962

It’s 1962 at The Velvet tonight. Velvet Musicologist Maht Wuyts has set off on a year-long revue of the last half-century of music from 1960 to 2012. Every Wednesday evening from 7 to 9 SLT, Velveteers will travel through time. I had a blast at 1961 and wanted to let you all know about this fun and exciting dance trip through the history of rock music. 1962 was a momentous year in fashion and in society. The body-conscious, figure-hugging silhouette with the tight sleeves and the hem just below the knee was still popular but by the fall was being replaced with A-line dress and high and relatively loose waistlines. Marine blue was a hot color in the fall and prints often combined one bold color with black and white making this dress from Sonatta Morales seem a perfect fit. Gloves and hats were still part of the costume de riguer though hats were becoming less fantastical than in the past.

The Meta_Body project

I’ve always enjoyed Meilo Minotaur and CapCat Ragu‘s art installations and projects. They’re true artists, check the beautiful and surreal Delicatessen sim if you don’t know what I mean.
Recently they have been working on a new project, the Meta_Body project and to explain what it is about, I’ll copy and paste the notecard I received ‘cause I want to share the coolness:

The virtual experience of the body is not exactly an experience of the flesh. These sensations, albeit having a physical sensorial aspect, continue to be experienced in our bodies behind the screen, not in our avatar body. The virtual body is a metaphorical body, all language, therefore open to experimentation and possibility.
In this new project, Meilo Minotaur and CapCat Ragu invite us, once again, to rethink our bodies through our avatars, making available all kinds of skins, shapes, body parts, clothes, etc. All these items are fully modifiable, shareable and copyable, thus challenging the audience to become creators and also share their derivative work with us, in the All My Independent Women exhibition. While the avatars are available in the Second Life Sim Delicatessen the pictures and machinimas of the derivative work will be displayed at VBKOE, Vienna, giving us a glimpse of the new creative flux, beyond the concepts of author and work of art, happening online.
If you want to participate in the RL project you must submit your derivative work in flickr group http://www.flickr.com/groups/meta_body/ or in koinup group http://www.koinup.com/group/meta-body until October 20th 2011.

Delicatessen: Meta_Body project

See the picture?
That’s the beautiful location in the Delicatessen sim where you will find different kinds of “artistic” avatars which you can get for free and use, edit, work on them the way you like if you want to join the project or if you want to share your pictures or whatever you want to do with them.
Just remember to donate to the tip jar, please, we don’t want such awesomeness to end 😉

I wore 3 different avatars, edited a bit the shapes and took a few snaps in the sim.
You can see them after the cut 😛

Hey, can I borrow your store for a minute?

Oct01_001
I have been frantically updating the blogroll. You see it over there on the right? It’s so much shorter now because I have shifted the links to Blogging Second Life, a companion site to It’s Only Fashion. This will make our blog load more quickly while still making sure all the links are available if you need them. It also allows me to provide more useful information, such as the name behind the blog, the store, and marketplace links. If I knew how to integrate two themes on one site, I would have kept it right here, but that’s above my pay grade. I hope you check it out and add missing information in the comments there.

While working on this project, more than once I came upon a store blog that required an in-world visit to complete the information. One such was MMGrafitti’s store blog. It’s possible all the information is on his blog, but it’s in Japanese and even Google Translate cannot answer every question.  I am happy I checked it out, though, because it was such a fun home and decor store that I had to shoot some pictures there. Seriously, when it’s time to shoot some photos in the snow, I am definitely taking pictures at the snow cabin. It has footprints in the snow on the porch!!!

Oct01_012

The weather has turned colder in real life and that has me reaching for warmth in Second Life. How silly is that? Still, any excuse to wear this marvelous fur from Baiastice. Sissy Pessoa has release two new jackets in four different furs. This is the short black fur and while she may have squeezed and skinned some pixels, no animals were harmed. I am wearing it over a magnificent blue python dress from R.icielli released for Modavia Fashion Week. I love the blue color and its overall look and don’t mind the seams not lining up as it makes it seem like python skin rather than a python-print fabric. The dress comes with shoes and earrings and that magnificent belt.

Make It Work

sept29_008

Do any of you still watch Project Runway now that it has moved to Lifetime and added 30 minutes to the show? I confess that I do, though with less and less enthusiasm over time. You would think with 30 extra minutes, we would see more of Tim Gunn, but we don’t. Instead we see a lot more fighting and arguing in the workroom. They try, the scream, they holler, the flounce and they sneer, but they will never be Wendy Pepper. This week, though, one of the designers had an amazing Make It Work moment when she lost her money at the fabric store and had to work with the money other designers had to donate to her. It was a low cost challenge in the first place, so she had only $11.50 and was certain she was going home, but she dried off her tears and made it work and won the challenge. I didn’t have nearly the difficulty making this work. I love the Zaria bodysuit, leggings and miniskirt but I wanted a more formal look and decided to make it work by adding a full length skirt and allowing the Zaria miniskirt to function as an embellishment at the waist. I love how it turned out.

Fall walked in without knocking

sep27b_001

Fall walked in the door the other day and it didn’t even knock. There I was all hot and bothered the day before and then the rain came and the chill air of autumn walked right in. I knew it was coming. It sent a postcard a couple weeks ago, but still, I think it should have knocked. I loved Autumn in Minnesota when the leaves turned with the bright lemon-lime of the birches, the fiery oranges of the maples and white oaks, the rich reds of the sugar maples and the jeweled garnet of the sumacs. I loved the crunch of the leaves on the deer paths snaking through the woods and the flashes of color among the white birches. Here in Oregon, autumn brings back the rain and the leaves are too damp for crunching or for rolling about it. The color palette is more yellow and green than the technicolor palette of Minnesota, but still there’s the welcome relief from heat and the richness of the fall harvest to sweeten the transition. Hankering for some real fall foliage, though, I set out for Salt Flats, the home of Zigana, a delightful home decor and texture store, where the fall foliage reminded me of my childhood tramps through the woods. Thankfully there is a path, because the heels on those gorgeous ankle boots from Paper Couture are not made for tramping.
