Pixies and Magpies In Flight

Gizza’s pixie inspired tutu sent me running to Oubliette to prance and fly and cavort as a pixie might do.

It was the perfect compliment to Magpie’s Hard to be Faithful hair, for Hair Fair 2012, as pixie’s are inconstant and flighty at best, and truly, I’m not sure I’d ever give one my heart. She’d likely flit off on a whim and never come back.  Continue reading

Gizza’s Sunburst Tutu

If you look real high
You just might find
Sitting in the stars
Glistening, glistening
Waiting for the band to come
Just waiting for that man to come
Oh, I wonder…

Gizza has made two sets of four tutus and it would take Solomon to choose the best of them. I wore this delightful Sunburst Tutu because I love its whimsy and the delicate, watercolor colors in the skirt.

Slip on down from that sun
To climb down to earth
And down to things like time
Because we are all, we are all just lovers
Born of earth and light like all these others

Hey there, I like your hair!

HF2012-Destination

Hair Fair 2012 opens at midnight and I am starting to sort hair for my blog posts featuring the different styles of hair you can find there. This event is to raise funds for Wigs for Kids.  Meanwhile, I thought I would share the map with you and some useful info on making your experience better.

  1. Join the Hair Fair Demo Group. You can copy and paste this into your chat window to join as well. You can set it so it doesn’t deliver and only save the demos you want if you’re afraid of being overwhelmed. Test the demos at home.
  2. Don’t worry too much about your aim when you’re walking around, most of the build is phantom so you can walk through walls.
  3. Take advantage of the pose balls to jump ahead.
  4. De-prim.
  5. Don’t render the other avatars by reducing the number who render in debug settings.  The default is 35, you don’t need to see 35 people, you want to see hair. Go to Advanced Menu (CTL-alt-D) and type in RenderAvatarMaxVisible. Lower it to something reasonable like 5. Don’t make it 0 because if you’re not rendered you can’t move. Now, if you can’t see them, you don’t need to care how much they’re wearing.
  6. Lower your graphic settings. Turn off atmospheric shaders, turn off the water reflections. Turn of particles and lower draw distance. Keep the mesh details high so you can see the hair, though.
  7. Turn on avatar imposters so even the folks who load are not fully loaded.
  8. Meanwhile, Darkley Aeon has kindly posted all the slurls to help guide your way.
  9. And then there is redelivery. I don’t know who is responsible for this innovation this year, but we all owe that person a big hug.

Redelivery Sign

Don’t you love how every year they find another way to make it better?

You Can’t Buy This Skin

jul06_006

Gala Phoenix’s skin is known for its fragility and tender youthfulness.

One of the more popular and well-loved skin makers in Second Life is Gala Phoenix of Curio whose fresh-faced, youthful skins have won her hundreds, if not thousands, of loyal customers who anxiously await every release. Sadly, they will have to wait a long time. If you haven’t been on hiatus or sleeping under a rock, you have probably heard of the Hush-Curio controversy. I won’t repeat the details here as there are plenty of sources for information. I think the best is The Blogging Elf by Arica Storaro who captures the important details without any hyperbole, maintaining a calm, reasoned journalistic tone. Continue reading

Returning

July01_001

One of my favorite SL sim builders is Marcus Inkpen whose amazing Utopia 4 build remains a standout for me – though it’s long gone. He’s also the genius behind the stunning Looking Glass sim.

July01_002

I was thrilled to learn that he has a new sim installation called The Returning. This is one on of the Linden Endowment for the Arts sims. Prepare to be amazed as you look at the pictures from the Flickr group for the sim. I must thank Ryker Beck for sharing a picture of the sim on her plurk – or I might not have known about it.

Fairy Tales Can Come True

Fairy Tales 2012 .

Gizza has designed a stunning wedding gown for Fairy Tales 2012. The gown comes in four options – white, cream, black and this black and white confection.

Fairy tales can come true, it can happen to you
If you’re young at heart.
For it’s hard, you will find, to be narrow of mind
If you’re young at heart.
